Jason Blum Talks The Amityville Horror: The Lost Tapes and an Insidious TV Series

22 December 2013 9:48 PM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

It's been a few years since we've heard anything regarding the horror sequel The Amityville Horror: The Lost Tapes, but producer Jason Blum revealed in a recent interview that the project is still moving forward.

"Nope. Still going, still going, still going, still going. We're going to make that movie and it's very cool. But I don't quite know yet when."

David Bruckner (The Signal) was originally slated to direct, but it isn't known if he is still involved in the project. Here's the official synopsis for that horror sequel.

"An ambitious female television news intern, on the verge of breaking the most famous haunted house case in the world, leads a team of journalists, clergymen and paranormal researchers into an investigation of the bizarre events that will come to be known as The Amityville Horror, only to unwittingly open a door to the unreal that she may never be able to close. »

Wan Second Director to Have Two Movies in Same Year Opening with More Than $40 Million (Ignoring Inflation)

16 September 2013 4:41 PM, PDT | Alt Film Guide | See recent Alt Film Guide news »

Insidious: Chapter 2′ box office: Horror movie has second best September debut ever — not taking inflation into account (photo: Barbara Hershey in ‘Insidious: Chapter 2′) As further evidence that moviegoers are sick and tired of sequels, James Wan’s Insidious: Chapter 2, starring Rose Byrne, Patrick Wilson, and veteran Barbara Hershey, took in $40.27 million this past weekend, September 13-15, at the North America box office according to weekend actuals found at Box Office Mojo. That’s more than three times the $13.27 million Wan’s Insidious collected in April 2011. How could that be? Well, James Wan’s Warner Bros.-distributed The Conjuring, starring Vera Farmiga and InsidiousPatrick Wilson, became a sleeper horror hit in mid-July, collecting an astounding — for a relatively low-budget horror movie — $41.85 million on its first weekend, ultimately cuming at $136 million in North America in addition to an excellent — once again, for a relatively low-budget horror movie — $135.2 million internationally. »

Box Office: How Did 'Insidious: Chapter 2' Scare Up a Record-Breaking Debut?

16 September 2013 2:30 AM, PDT | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

It was no big surprise that "Insidious Chapter 2" won the weekend at the box office, since it's only competition was "The Family," a Robert De Niro mob action-comedy that played to older audiences. But no one expected it to open above $40 million and set a September record.

Given that the new "Insidious" was the follow-up to a low-budget horror film that opened with $13 million, with a relatively obscure cast and director, predictions for the sequel's debut were in the high 20s and low 30s. Instead, the film earned an estimated $41.1 million, making it the largest September opening ever for a live-action movie or a horror movie.

How did "Insidious Chapter 2" manage to outperform expectations by such a huge margin? Here's what it had going for it that pundits may have overlooked.

‘Insidious: Chapter 2′ Review

6 September 2013 1:46 PM, PDT | Blogomatic3000 | See recent Blogomatic3000 news »

Stars: Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Barbara Hershey, Lin Shaye, Ty Simpkins, Steve Coulter, Leigh Whannell, Angus Sampson, Andrew Astor | Written by Leigh Whannell | Directed by James Wan

Having watched what I guess we should now refer to as ‘Chapter 1’ prior to the screening of the Insidious sequel, I can confirm that as a franchise it’s not quite as edgy and gritty as its promotion would have you believe. There’s something quite hokey, kooky and actually quite endearing about the Insidious films which I don’t consider to be a bad thing. When your film’s knight in shining armour character is a kindly old lady, what more could you reasonably expect?

Despite the three year gap since the release of its predecessor, Insidious: Chapter 2 takes place very shortly after it chronologically. After the events of the first film, which saw Patrick Wilson travelling into a spirit realm »

Update: The trailer has now been released to the public and has been added to this post.

Wow, is 2013 going to be a hell of a year for horror or what? James Wan’s first film of the year, The Conjuring, hasn’t even hit theaters yet (it will be released July 19th), yet tonight I found myself at a special event for the World Premiere screening of the very first trailer for Wan’s second directorial effort of 2013, Insidious: Chapter 2.

Being that Insidious was hands-down one of my favorite horror movies of 2011, I was giddy with anticipation during the initial cocktail hour which calmed the ravenous group of horror fans waiting for the first taste of Wan’s much anticipated sequel. Could it live up to the overnight success of Wan’s original?!

Lindsay Seim Becomes the Young Lin Shaye for Insidious Chapter 2

Actress Lindsay Seim (below) is the latest to join the cast of James Wan and Leigh Whannel's horror sequel 'Insidious Chapter 2'. Seim will play the role of the young Elise Rainier, whilst Lin Shaye returns to portray an older version of the same role. This news along with the previous casting of Jocelin Donahue ('The House of the Devil') who is set to play the younger version of Barbara Hershey's role Lorraine Lambert obviously points to some flashbacks at least which will be hopefully revealing more into the younger life of Josh Lambert (played by Patrick Wilson) when his talent for astral projection first became apparent. Patrick Wilson ('Watchmen'), Rose Byrne ('Sunshine'), Lin Shaye ('Dead End'), Barbara Hershey, Angus Sampson, Ty Simpkins, Andrew Astor and Danielle Bisutti ('Curse of Chucky') also star in the second chapter. Lindsay Seim Joins Insidious Chapter 2 to Play a Young Lin Shaye

12 March 2013 3:09 PM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Sometimes casting news comes along that really hits the mark. The addition of Lindsay Seim to the cast of Insidious Chapter 2 to play a younger version of Lin Shaye's character "Elise Rainier" is pretty stellar as the resemblance is downright uncanny.

Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Danielle Bisutti, Ty Simpkins, Barbara Hershey, Leigh Whannell, Angus Sampson, Jocelin Donahue, and Andrew Astor also star along with Shaye and Seim.

Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Productions is producing (with Alliance financing). FilmDistrict will distribute the film theatrically in the United States, with Sony handling the majority of domestic ancillary rights. Alliance will distribute in Canada, the U.K. (through its Momentum Pictures subsidiary), and Spain (through Aurum); and Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions will distribute in all other international territories.

Look for the flick in theatres on September 20th.
