Dawn Patrol movie review: total wipeout

16 June 2015 10:35 AM, PDT | www.flickfilosopher.com | See recent FlickFilosopher news »

A repulsive and disgustingly manipulative roundrobin of revenge that veers from softcore porn to an emotionally ignorant parody of a family drama. I’m “biast” (pro): nothing

I’m “biast” (con): nothing

(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)

Dawn Patrol is not the action adventure thrill ride about surfers that it would like you to believe it is. It has nothing to do with either the 1930 or 1938 films of (nearly) the same name about World War I fighter pilots. But it does hope that you will grant its central character some of the automatic sympathy that comes with a soldier’s uniform, because that’s how it introduces us to the “plight” of John (Scott Eastwood: Fury). He is in a desert somewhere — we are clearly meant to infer that it’s Iraq or Afghanistan — wearing Marine fatigues and being held captive by a woman »

Skate Bros Face Murder Drama in Dawn Patrol

2 June 2015 9:00 PM, PDT | Village Voice | See recent Village Voice news »

In a laughable scene in Dawn Patrol, John (Scott Eastwood) passes a joint to his brother (Chris Brochu) while riding a skateboard, and director Daniel Petrie Jr. stages the moment in drawn-out slow motion, as if he expected it to appear as a SportsCenter highlight. This kind of tacky, on-the-nose treatment is representative of Petrie’s choices throughout the movie — though, in his defense, the screenplay he’s working from (co-written by Rachel Long and Brian Pittman) is a mess in its own right.

Following a clumsy opening in which John, clad in Marine clothing, recounts his story to a woman (Julie Carmen) as she holds him at gunpoint, the movie flashes back to the summer of 2008. Petrie takes his time detailing the habits of John’s bea »

The Vampire Diaries: Season Six Ratings

17 April 2015 1:36 PM, PDT | TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

Last season, Arrow surpassed The Vampire Diaries as the most-watched show on The CW. Will this show's ratings continue to drop this season? Is it essentially guaranteed to be renewed for a seventh season or could it be cancelled? Stay tuned.

The Vampire Diaries revolves around the search for love and the battle between good 04 17 2015 11 36

and evil in the supernatural-charged town of Mystic Falls, Virginia. The cast includes Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder, Steven R. McQueen, Kat Graham, Candice Accola, Zach Roerig, Michael Trevino, Matt Davis, Michael Malarkey, and Chris Brochu.

The ratings are typically the best indication of a show's likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available -- usually the next day, »

The Vampire Diaries Review: “The Day I Tried To Live” (Season 6, Episode 13)

5 February 2015 8:39 PM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Even though The Vampire Diaries slowed things way down tonight, there was still that sense of urgency and pending doom that makes the show so enjoyable to watch season after season. With tragedy looming around every corner- past, present, and future – the characters took a much needed time out to celebrate the birthday of their temporarily departed friend, Bonnie (Kat Graham).

As Mystic Falls’ resident supernaturals decorated the Salvatore Manor and baked the perfect cake, Bonnie wasn’t exactly sharing in the celebratory mood while still stuck by her lonesome in a perpetual 1994 prison. But, that didn’t stop the writers from turning “The Day I Tried to Live” into somewhat of a public service announcement on the power of positive thinking.

My biggest apprehension about the direction that the writers are taking The Vampire Diaries in is that they’re setting us up to fall for Kai (Chris Woods) in a very Klaus-like way. »

The Vampire Diaries Review: “Prayer For The Dying” (Season 6, Episode 12)

29 January 2015 10:09 PM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

There’s something ironic about a vampire uttering the phrase, “Life’s too short,” but if it means that the Delena hiatus is over, then that’s a reason in itself to celebrate. And, it’s a good thing too since The Vampire Diaries is about to get a lot more convoluted before anyone gets a glimpse of happily ever after again.

Even when Damon’s (Ian Somerhalder) intentions are noble, and that’s a good majority of the time lately, his flaw is always in the execution. Simply put, he has no finesse. For a vampire who’s been alive for somewhere in the ballpark of a century and a half, you would think he would have learned just a little more about the art of subtlety. Yet, impossible as it seems, he has very little self-restraint – and once again, it’s come back to bite him in the behind. »
