Blu-ray Review: Disappointing DC Universe Entry in ‘Justice League: Doom’

28 February 2012 3:19 PM, PST | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – The DC Universe brand of straight-to-dvd PG-13 films have had a remarkable array of quality. Some are absolutely brilliant, must-see films (“Justice League: The New Frontier,” “Batman: Under the Red Hood”) while others are kind of a mess (“Wonder Woman.” “Green Lantern: Emerald Knights”). In other words, you never know what you’re going to get when you pop in a new entry in the hit franchise. The 13th film, “Justice League: Doom.” is not a lucky one.

Rating: 2.5/5.0

Loosely based on “Jla: Tower of Babel” by Marc Waid, a multi-episode arc that was released in 2000, “Doom” is easily the most disjointed and inconsistent DC Universe film yet. The voice talent is spectacular, featuring a number of all-time favorites when it comes to DC animation (Kevin Conroy, Tim Daly, Nathan Fillion, Michael Rosenbaum), but that’s where the praise ends. The story doesn’t resonate and the visuals are mediocre. »

Review: “Justice League: Doom”

16 February 2012 8:00 AM, PST | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

If you’ve been a fan of Warner Bros.’ direct-to-dvd DC Universe movies, you are no doubt eagerly awaiting the February 28th release of Justice League: Doom. ComicMix’s own Glenn Hauman and Mike Gold attended a press screening of the movie, along with the mandatory press conferences and post-game roundtable discussion. We decided to take a conversational approach to our preview – not quite a review, as we’re avoiding spoilers. Still, if you’re extraordinarily anal retentive (the fanboy/fangirl affliction), you might want to just look at the pictures.

Glenn: The story, and the universe, felt familiar – not just because we’ve known these characters forever, but because it was Dwayne McDuffie’s take on them, his Pov from Justice League and from Justice League Unlimited. One of those “you don’t realize how much you miss it until it’s gone” things.

Mike: DC’s animated universe came about organically, »

Sneak Peek "Justice League: Doom"

18 January 2012 8:10 PM, PST | SneakPeek | See recent SneakPeek news »

Sneak Peek new images from "Justice League: Doom", the third animated film in Warners' "Justice League" film series, based loosely on DC Comics' "Jla : The Tower of Babel" storyline :

"Tower of Babel", a "Justice League" story arc written by Mark Waid, deals with Batman's perceived betrayal to the superhuman community by keeping records concerning the strengths and weaknesses of his allies in the 'Jla', including plans to eliminate his allies in a fight.

But his files are stolen by the villain, 'Ra's al Ghul', who uses the information to defeat the Justice League through a coordinated attack.

'Batman' is the only League member not attacked, as 'Martian Manhunter' bursts into flame upon exposure to air, 'Aquaman' is rendered hydrophobic by an altered form of the 'fear' toxin used by 'Scarecrow' and 'Plastic Man' is frozen solid, then shattered by a hammer by one of Ra's al Ghul's henchmen. »
