TV Review: Skins 6.10, “Everyone”

29 March 2012 2:31 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

So here we are at the final Skins episode of series six and the last-ever regular episode. The series has, overall, been fascinating, entertaining, enjoyable and generally pretty great, and I’m pleased to report that the finale holds up well.

We start off with Mini (Freya Mavor) lying in the hospital after last week’s near miscarriage. Yes, she is still pregnant and the baby is fine. Also, her friend Liv (Laya Lewis) is there with her, keeping her company.

Meantime, Franky (Dakota Blue Richards) is shown returning home after last week’s adventure. We watch as she proceeds to trash her dads’ room, and eventually uncovers her adoption records. She takes them and flees, hitching a ride with a trucker to take her the long distance from Bristol to Birmingham.

Back in Bristol, Nick (Sean Teale) and Matty (Sebastian de Souza) are sitting in »

Dakota Blue Richards: 'Skins issues are powerful and real'

27 March 2012 3:32 AM, PDT | digitalspy | See recent digitalspy news »

Dakota Blue Richards has said that she hopes the "real" issues in Skins send a message to fans to stay in control of themselves. The actress played Franky Fitzgerald in the fifth and sixth series of the teen drama, which ended last night but returns next year for a final collection of three films split into six parts.

> Dakota Blue Richards reviews the series finale Richards told the Evening Standard of the show: "The issues are very powerful and dark, yet real. "I hope the message it sends out is that no matter what happens, if you stay in control of yourself, and look to (more) »

TV Review: Skins 6.9 – ‘Franky and Mini’

27 March 2012 2:58 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

[rating 4]

Mere words are inadequate to explain how disappointed I’ve been with the character of Franky (Dakota Blue Richards) during this, the last full series of Skins. I really liked her in the previous series, but this one? Not so much. So when I heard that this episode was going to be about her and Mini (Freya Mavor), another non-favorite of mine, I was less than pleased. But…well, the result was far better than I thought it would be.

We start with Franky and Mini lying in bed together. Ah, yes, Skins. The series that doesn’t wants slash-fiction writers to have to go through all that trouble. Anyhow, we learn that Mini has an appointment to see a doctor about her pregnancy, something I would have thought she’d have been doing fairly regularly.

The two of them seem quite pleased and domestic together, with Franky even going downstairs to prepare breakfast. »

Dakota Blue Richards joins The Fold

23 March 2012 11:08 AM, PDT | ScreenTerrier | See recent ScreenTerrier news »

Fresh from her success in Skins, Dakota Blue Richards (represented by Arg) is currently shooting British indie feature The Fold in Bristol and Cornwall, playing Eloise, the daughter of Rebecca, an Anglican priest.

Set in the Cornish daffodil harvest, The Fold stars Catherine McCormack as Anglican priest Rebecca Ashton who begins a new life in Cornwall following her daughterʼs death in a tragic accident.

Rebecca forms a friendship with Bulgarian teenager Radka Dimitrova and her mothering attitude creates a strong bond between them but when things go too far, she ends up putting her family in grave danger.

20 year old newcomer Marina Stoimenova (represented by Top Talent Agency), former rhythmic gymnast champion of Bulgaria, plays opposite McCormack in her first ever screen role, as migrant worker Radka. Radka is working on the Cornish daffodil harvest, which each year sees around 5000 people come to the UK from Europe to pick flowers, »

Channel 4 Cancels Skins

7 March 2012 11:44 PM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

It has been confirmed by Channel 4 that the current generation of ‘Skins’ will be its last. However it will not be going quietly. According to reports a further three, two hour long, final farewell episodes are planned for next year. This news probably does not come as surprise to those who have followed the series. The decline in viewing figures to the current season will have contributed the ‘Skins’ bosses deciding to call it a day.

A spokesperson for Channel 4 said: “Skins is a brilliant show which has defined a generation and will go down as a truly iconic, game-changing piece of television but after seven series it is time for E4 to make way for the next generation of the bold, the new and the innovative.”

The controversial drama features ‘taboo’ topics along the lines of sex, drugs and youth culture whilst not being afraid to tackle bigger issues. »

TV Review: Skins 6.7, ‘Alo’

7 March 2012 11:30 PM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Over six seasons of Skins, we’ve seen a lot of crime take place. Off the top of my head, we’ve had murder, theft, assault, drug use, drug dealing, and corpse stealing. Finally one of the principle cast members gets busted for something, but, surprisingly, it’s not any of those things.

We begin Alo’s (Will Merrick) story with him at a big outdoor party dressed as Peter Pan. This sets the tone for the episode, which is all about Alo needing to grow up.

While at the party he spots Mini (Freya Mavor) sitting off on her lonesome. He wants to talk to her, but she’s clearly not interested and still hasn’t told him that she’s pregnant. Rich (Alexander Arnold), acting as Alo’s heterosexual life partner, wants Alo to move on and encourages him to hit on a girl »

TV Review: Skins 6.5, ‘Mini’

23 February 2012 2:50 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

I never cared much for the character of Mini (Freya Mavor). I found her to be too self-absorbed and bitchy, and even though we’re made aware that she uses that self-absorbed bitchiness as a shield to keep herself from getting hurt by the world, that still doesn’t compensate for the fact that I find her to be very unappealing. Nevertheless, the character was redeemed, at least somewhat, in this most recent episode.

We begin with Mini and her recent boy-toy Alo (Will Merrick) shagging in a bathroom stall at a club. During the act, Alo tells Mini he loves her, which results in what I believe gymnasts term a “hasty dismount”. Liv (Laya Lewis) then walks in, and Alo has to sneak off.

Mini stalks off and goes home, where she’s stuck lying in bed listening to her mother and her mother’s boyfriend having noisy sex. »

TV Review: Skins 6.4, ‘Franky’

16 February 2012 9:41 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Last series, Franky (Dakota Blue Richards) was one of my favorite characters. She was interesting to look at, creative, intelligent and messed-up, but in good ways. But starting from episode one of this current series, she became something very different. Dark, dangerous, borderline unlikeable. That current version of her character reaches a culmination in this episode.

Franky is, like most of her friends, still processing Grace’s (Jessica Sula) death a couple episodes ago. She’s handling it worse than most of them. She’s been using all sorts of chemicals, alienating her family, blowing off school and hallucinating images of Grace. This is not a formula for success.

While in this unhappy state, she seeks out Luke (Joe Cole), the easy-to-look-at drug dealer from their Morocco adventure and the person who is at least partly responsible for Grace’s death, something I’m not sure »

Great LezBritain: Freya Mavor and Dakota Blue Richards talk "Skins" Series 6

6 January 2012 1:55 PM, PST | AfterEllen.com | See recent AfterEllen.com news »

"Great LezBritian" is a fortnightly stroll through the very best of British lesbo-centric entertainment and culture. Plus there will be some jolly good interviews with the top ladies who are waving the flag for gay UK.

The next series of Skins is back on UK screens on January 23 courtesy of Channel E4. Two of the key Characters, Franky Fitzgerald, played by Dakota Blue Richards and Mini McGuinness, played by Freya Mavor spoke to us a couple of weeks ago amidst a frantic last week of filming. Speculation is rife about what will happen to their characters in series six, and indeed whether the "Minky" boat will sail or sink. Both actresses gave their perspective on all things Skins, how their characters change and how they define the relationship between their characters.
