To promote the release of "Star Trek: Into Darkness" on the UK streaming service Blinkbox, illusionist Scott Penrose was hired to create a prank to trick shoppers into thinking he created a teleportation device, similar to the one seen in the movie. Thousands of people gathered to see Penrose choose volunteers, have them step into a machine, and then beam them to a nearby location in seconds. Watch the video below to see the prank. 'Star Trek' teleportation device stuns London shoppers - watch video

Shoppers have been left confused after watching people being 'teleported' in a shopping mall.

In a stunt to mark the digital release of Star Trek Into Darkness, crowds in London's Westfield Shopping Centre were led to believe that those being picked to use a teleporting device were volunteers, who were then beamed around the building.

However, the 'volunteers' from the crowd were picked beforehand and all had identical twins.

Illusionist Scott Penrose and movie/TV streaming service blinkbox put the stunt together using different lighting techniques.

Ben Ayers from blinkbox said: "Star Trek Into Darkness is one of the biggest releases of the year. We wanted to mark its arrival with an audacious spectacle straight out of the franchise itself - human teleportation.

"Since Star Trek first hit our screens, the idea of being able to teleport from one place to another, although it is not scientifically possible, has captured the public imagination. »

Watch: Real 'Star Trek' Teleporter Unveiled to Shocked Mall Shoppers

In honor of the release of Star Trek Into Darkness on Blu-Ray and DVD (which kind of screws over fans looking for cool bonus features), we're bringing you an amusing video inspired by one of the most infamous pieces of sci-fi technology in the iconic series. Blinkbox and illusionist Scott Penrose went to a shopping mall in London to show off a "real" teleporter, just as audiences have seen in Star Trek. It's a pretty cool trick, and it looks like a lot of these people might have actually been duped into thinking a teleporter had been mastered. If you want to see how they pulled off this cool stunt, just stick around to the end. Watch! Here's the Star Trek Into Darkness teleporter stunt from Blinkbox (via Movies.com): Star Trek Into Darkness is the sequel to the J.J. Abrams-directed reboot of Gene Roddenberry's original science fiction series. »

We don’t just bring you the latest movie news and cool features here at Movies.com – sometimes we like to find videos related to films that are just plain cool or funny. Today, we’ve got two to share with you. First up, in celebration of Star Trek Into Darkness’ DVD and Blu-ray debut, we offer this very neat illusion which makes transporter technology a modern day reality… sort of. Blinkbox and illusionist Scott Penrose set up the event in a London mall, and unsuspecting shoppers watched as seemingly random people were plucked from the crowd, placed in a teleporter chamber, and whisked around to other parts of the mall. I’ll admit, it’s a pretty great illusion – although I half expected a second “wow” moment based on...
