“The City of Owls” is Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s epic conclusion to their Court of Owls storyline which sees Batman strike back against the Court and overthrow their presence in Gotham. But Snyder has one more twist to his tale as he reveals a long buried secret from the Wayne family’s past…
If you’ve read the “Night of Owls” event book published last month then you’ll already have read half of this book. “City” collects Batman #8-12 and Batman Annual #1 and Batman #8-9 and Batman Annual #1 appeared in “Night” so there’s some overlap between the two books. It’s still worth re-reading Batman #8-9 though as it has the amazing “Attack on Wayne Manor” sequence where Bruce fights the Talons in his pyjamas!
The 3 “new” issues are brilliant as well. After surviving the long Night, Bruce begins thinking about the Court and figures out »

DC Comics announced today via the AP that superstar writer and artist duo Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo would continue their bestselling run on Batman with a look back at the Dark Knight’s origins in an 11-issue series titled “The Zero Year”.
Set to begin this June, Snyder confirmed that he and Capullo would be revisiting the formative years of Bruce Wayne:
“It’s not ‘let’s redo the origin,’” he said “It’s time for a new story showing how Batman became who he is in the New 52.”
“We tried to preserve as much of Batman’s history as we could and keep what we could of this history intact,” Snyder said of the change. “It’s ‘The Zero Year,’ the one that no one has told the story of before. We see how Bruce became the Batman, built the cave, faced off with his first super villain. »

What simian warlords dare take on Commissioner Gordon?
Gary Oldman continues his conquering of as many tentpole franchises as possible as he signs on for "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes," according to Deadline.
"Dawn" takes place 15 years after the events of "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" (2011), with Caesar (Andy Serkis) rising in power as the leader of the ape revolution as a group of human scientists struggle to survive in San Francisco. Oldman will be playing Dreyfus, the leader of the human resistance — and, wouldn't you know it, a former police commissioner.
Oldman joins a cast that includes his "Lawless" co-star Jason Clarke and Kodi Smit-McPhee, who previously worked with director Matt Reeves on "Let Me In."
"Apes" makes for the latest in a long line of franchises for Oldman, who appeared as Sirius Black in the "Harry Potter" series and last summer completed his tenure »

Hollywood's love affair with comic books took decades to blossom, but there are few hotter properties than superheroes in modern day cinema. In the last year alone, we've seen The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises topple box office records the world over.
The runaway success of such films has paved the way for dozens of future projects, but not every filmmaker has enjoyed the same fortunes as Christopher Nolan and Joss Whedon when they delved into the world of powers and spandex.
Tim Burton's Superman Lives, James Cameron's Spider-Man and George Miller's Justice League are but a few examples of comic book projects that died an early death. Wondering what might have been, Digital Spy takes a look at 10 aborted superhero movies.
Tim Burton's Superman Lives

The second part of Batman: The Dark Knight Returns demonstrates how the world has changed since the graphic novel source material was published in 1986. Frank Miller’s reinvention of Batman was also his personal reaction to the conservative, jingoistic United States of America of the decade. President Ronald Reagan was a folksy president, good with a quip, and saw the world in stark black and white terms, which was feeling wrong in the final years of the Cold War. Miller also questioned all authority figures from know-it-all doctors who loved to hear themselves on the growing number of vapid talk shows to the unformed law-enforcement representatives who fired first and then questioned orders. While some of this was evident in part one, which was released last fall, this installment, out on Tuesday, really shines a spotlight on the themes.
A visual tour-de-force, Miller’s four-part The Dark Knight took the »
