In the world's never-ending quest to confuse us as much as possible, two new horror flicks are under way with the same title, Safari. The good news? They couldn't be more different. Read on for the details regarding both of them.
Last week Bloody Disgusting dropped the news that Safari, a found-footage thriller, was gearing up to start shooting on October 15th in Johannesburg, South Africa. Directed by Academy Award nominee Darrell Roodt (Little One, Yesterday) and written by Dark Was The Night scribe Tyler Hisel, the pedigree is right for this one to be a cut above.
That film “centers on a band of American tourists, stranded and hunted in the heart of the South African wilderness. Their struggle to survive the elements and the vicious predators lurking the African plain is documented by the video cameras meant to record their vacation.” Rocky Myers (Vamp U) and Kim Argetsinger »

South African filmmaker Darrell Roodt (also the director of Winnie - the Jennifer Hudson Winnie Mandela film) has signed on to direct a found-footage thriller that will be set in South Africa - Johannesburg specifically, from a script penned by an American screenwriter, Tyler Hisel, titled Safari. The film will center on a group of American tourists stranded in the "South African wilderness," as the synopsis states, and will star Rocky Myers, Kim Argetsinger, Chloe Kirby and Robert Watkins; none of them is black, by the way, as I'm sure you're wondering. And by the way, professional animal trainer-behaviorist Kevin Richardson has been tapped to »

With principal photography set to wrap any day now on the production from Caliber Media Company, Sundial Pictures and Preferred Content, I can tell you that I recently flew to Southampton to spend some time on the set of Dark Was The Night. Directed by Jack Heller (Enter Nowhere), the upcoming creature feature's script, from Tyler Hisel, appeared on the 2009 Black List of best un-produced scripts under the title "The Trees". The film stars Lukas Haas (Brick, Inception), Kevin Durand (Lost Real Steel), Heath Freeman (Skate Land), Sabina Gadecki (Freaky Deaky, House Of Lies), Bianca Kadilch (Halloween: Resurrection, Rules Of Engagement) and Nick Damici (Stake Land, Premium Rush) »
Being the follow-up to a fantastic feature debut — The Guard, which you absolutely must see — John Michael McDonagh‘s Calvary has, slowly but surely, founds itself creeping up on my list of most anticipated films hitting within these next few years. Only furthering this sense of excitement are a couple of casting items from Twitch (via ThePlaylist), wherein we’ve learned that Isaach De Bankolé (24, The Limits of Control) and David Wilmot (The Guard, Michael Collins) have taken roles in the picture, alongside Brendan Gleeson, Aidan Gillen, Chris O’Dowd, and Kelly Reilly.
I’d love to tell you who they’re playing and how their characters figure into the plot — in which a priest is erroneously accused of sexual harassment by his town — so it’s only fitting that the proper information isn’t at our disposal. Taking a shot in the dark, however, I’d wager a guess »

Work has begun on Doctor Who’s 7th season, and while there are tons of unsubstantiated rumors as to where this season is going, conversations between writers, directors and cast via Tweets and interviews can give fans in search of news (was there ever a time when we let shows unwind without knowing all the spoilers beforehand?) some hope. What is confirmed is that Mark Williams, who played Arthur Weasley in the Harry Potter films, will guest star in what is probably the second episode of the season. Now what role he’s playing is up for debate, but the owner of the private house where filming is taking place has tweeted that her house contains photos of Rory and Amy, and both Arthur Darvil and Karen Gillan and Williams are filming together. Which could mean that Williams is probably playing Rory’s Dad, as the actors look similar.
The superbly attractive actress Sabina Gadecki (below), who you may recall as the sexy host of the fifth season of the 'World Poker Tour', is the splendid eye-candy that'll be catching my attention in the Jack Heller helmed creature feature 'Dark Was the Night'. The stunner will star alongside Kevin Durand ('Resident Evil: Retribution') who is on board to play the local towns sheriff and Lukas Haas ('Inception') who will play his deputy. Heath Freeman and Nick Damici also star in the new Caliber Media survival thriller penned by Tyler Hisel. »
