Foreign Language Oscar Shortlist: A Preview Of Possibilities, Part 3

18 December 2014 10:13 AM, PST | Deadline New York | See recent Deadline New York news »

Here’s the final entry in my annual assessment of movies that have a chance to pass the first stage of the Foreign Language Oscar race. We expect the shortlist to come out tomorrow and I’m expecting a number of the films I’ve profiled below, and here and here, will make the grade. I spoke with the directors of the films about their inspirations and expectations and I also checked in with the U.S. distributors about why they bought the movies. Below is a look at the final five titles that have generated serious buzz over the past several weeks of screenings, Q&As and consulate lunches (and there are also a handful of special mentions). The films are in no particular order:

Wild Tales (Argentina), U.S. Distributor: Sony Pictures Classics

A runaway success at home in Argentina, Wild Tales is director Damián Szifrón’s third feature. »

Spectre: Belvedere Vodka announces James Bond movie partnership

16 December 2014 4:38 AM, PST | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - Movie News news »

Belvedere Vodka has announced a collaboration with new James Bond movie Spectre.

The company will release two limited edition bottles in celebration of the company's partnership with the upcoming film.

Belvedere's Silver Sabre bottles will also feature a new 007 twist as part of the campaign, which will be launched in February 2015.

Professor James Chapman, author of the cultural history of James Bond Licence to Thrill, said: "Bond's drinking habits have always been a central aspect of the James Bond lifestyle.

"Fleming's Bond famously invented the 'Vesper' martini in Casino Royale, and the vodka martini was there for special occasions such as his dinner at M's club Blades (Moonraker) and his sumptuous dinner with American millionaire Mr Du Pont (Goldfinger). And of course, a world-class super villain such as Dr No would not dream of serving anything else.

James Bond: Christoph Waltz is not the head of Spectre

15 December 2014 8:42 AM, PST | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - Movie News news »

Christoph Waltz has said that he will not be playing the head of Spectre in the next James Bond film.

The comments by the actor go against the rumour that he would play the iconic Bond villain Ernst Stavro Blofeld, head of the Special Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion.

When asked if he would head the organisation in director Sam Mendes's Spectre, Waltz told Collider, "No. No. It's more interesting than that."

The Django Unchained star was rumoured to be taking on the role of a villain in the movie.

He was announced as playing a character called 'Oberhauser', which many took to be a misdirection similar to Benedict Cumberbatch's 'John Harrison'/Khan in Star Trek into Darkness.

Ernst Stavro Blofeld appeared as the head of Spectre in seven Bond films.

The script for Spectre was leaked during the recent Sony hacking.

Craig was looking slick in brown sunglasses, a navy overcoat with matching scarf, a grey suit and black leather gloves as he waved and gave fans the thumbs up.

Kinnear donned similar attire in a black jacket, black suit and leather gloves while holding on tightly to the boat.

They were also seen zipping past the MI6 headquarters as they were being filmed by the production crew in a separate boat.

SAG Nominations and Announcement of A New Feature

10 December 2014 7:38 AM, PST | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

As some of you may know, I'm a bit of a jack(ass) of all trades. I follow the film industry for Lr, and critique films. But I'm also an actor, I front a rock band, I'm a DJ, film editor, and director as well. Basically, when it comes to entertainment, there's nothing I don't do. For some time now, I've been mulling over bringing some of my other interests to Lr, and I'll be starting with the SAG Awards. How? Well, I've been a member of SAG for 6 years now and I also am part of the voting process. That means every year I am sent screeners of all the films being considered for awards.

Here's where a new running feature comes into play:

As I start receiving these screeners, I will write special reviews for each one and publish them here. Then, as we near the voting deadline, »
