The series production “bubble” has burst, said Studiocanal CEO Anna Marsh in a MipTV keynote address in Canes today (April 17).
“I do feel the bubble has burst. We were enjoying a really wonderful time of endless green lights after short development periods,” said Marsh, who is also deputy CEO of Canal+.

Studiocanal and SunnyMarch are to soon enter production on the Beneditch Cumberbatch-starring How to Stop Time, which has been rejigged from a feature to a TV series.
Studiocanal optioned the Matt Haig novel six years ago and was initially developing as a feature with Cumberbatch’s SunnyMarch, which it part owns. After a hefty hiatus, Studiocanal CEO Anna Marsh revealed at Mip TV today that the project will now be a six-part TV series, with Cumberbatch and SunnyMarch still attached.

Exclusive: StudioCanal is returning to the UK television production investment scene as it finalizes a deal with an outfit co-founded by a Vigil and Downton Abbey director.
The French production group will back Strong Film & Television, which was co-founded by BAFTA-winner James Strong and Matt Tombs, a former BBC and Paramount executive.
Strong Film & Television was established in late 2020 and appears to have added Loretta Preece to its ranks. Preece was most recently the series producer on Casualty, the long-running, BAFTA-winning BBC continuing drama.

Michaela Coel’s “I May Destroy You” won two BAFTAs in a year where there was no single dominant winner at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts’ (BAFTA) Television Awards on Sunday.
The BBC/HBO show won best mini-series and leading actress for Coel, who dedicated the award to the production’s director of intimacy Ita O’Brien.
