Raven Banner takes 'Blood' for Canada

The Toronto distributor has acquired Canadian rights to the Gina Carano action thriller. Separately, Cinedigm has picked up Us rights to Open Windows.

In The Blood will open theatrically on April 24. John Stockwell directed the story of a highly capable woman on honeymoon who rescues her kidnaped husband.

Gina Carano is without a doubt, the most badass action heroine in Hollywood today,” said Raven Banner’s Michael Paszt. “It’s a real thrill for us to be releasing the film in Canada.”

Paszt and co-managing partner James Fler negotiated the deal with Shaun Redick and Ray Mansfield of Movie Package Co and Arianne Fraser of international sales agent Highland Film Group.

Cinedigm has acquired Us rights from CAA to Nacho Vigalondo’s thriller Open Windows starring Elijah Wood and Sasha Grey. The film premiered at SXSW and will open theatrically in early autumn.

Distribution: Anchor Bay tastes In The Blood

Anchor Bay Films and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment have signed a joint distribution agreement to release In The Blood day-and-date in theatres, on VOD and on iTunes on April 4.

Former Mma star Gina Carano leads an ensemble cast of Cam Gigandet, Luis Guzman, Amaury Nolasco, Ismael Cruz Cordoba, Treat Williams, Stephen Lang and Danny Trejo.

John Stockwell directed from a screenplay by Bennett Yellin and James Robert Johnston about a trained fighter on the trail of her new husband’s abductors.

Ray Mansfield and Shaun Redick of Movie Package Co produced with Cash Warren, while Lee Portnoi, David R Arnold, Nicola Horlick, Andrew Mann, Glenn M Stewart, Stefan Sonnenfeld, Luillo Ruiz, James Gibb and Belly Torres comprise the executive producers. The Way We Roll Productions and Mica Entertainment financed In The Blood.

Cumberbatch scales Bodrov’s Mountain

Altitude will introduce buyers to Benedict Cumberbatch thriller at the Efm

Benedict Cumberbatch is newly attached to star in Sergei Bodrov’s drama Blood Mountain, which Altitude will be shopping at the Efm in Berlin.

The project was written by Jonathan W. Stokes with revisions by John Romano.

Lawrence Bender, Nicola Horlick and James Gibb will produce. Shaun Redick is executive producing alongside Rachel Green of Derby Street Films and Brooklyn Weaver of Energy Entertainment.

Silver Reel will finance the film with executives Claudia Bluemhuber and Ian Hutchinson also serving as executive producers on the project. Skady Lis of Germany’s Getaway Pictures will serve as a co-producer on the film. Getaway Pictures will handle the European co-production of the film with the UK and the Us.

Benedict Cumberbatch to Star in ‘Blood Mountain’ (Exclusive)

London — Benedict Cumberbatch has been attached to star in the thriller “Blood Mountain,” which Altitude Film Sales will be shopping to international buyers at the European Film Market in Berlin. UTA Independent Film Group is repping North American rights.

Sergei Bodrov (“Mongol,” “Seventh Son”) will direct, and Lawrence Bender (“Pulp Fiction,” “Inglourious Basterds,” “Kill Bill”), Nicola Horlick and James Gibb are producing. Jonathan W. Stokes penned the original script, with revisions by John Romano.

The film follows a private military contractor whose special forces team is ambushed and killed during a covert raid, forcing him to personally escort one of the world’s most wanted terrorists over hostile terrain in order to bring him to justice. With a bounty at stake and insurgents and rival mercenaries hunting them, the two find themselves facing not only their enemies, but each other in their fight for survival.
