The show has given the streamer a welcome buzzy boost, premiering to some of Prime Video’s best reviews ever, averaging a 94 percent average positive critic score on Rotten Tomatoes. The streamer also says the show is among its top three titles to date (though per usual, it didn’t back that up with any hard data).

The Prime Video TV series adaptation of the popular Fallout video game franchise won’t begin streaming until April 12th, but season 2 of the show is already moving forward. While the first season was primarily filmed in New York (with some filming also taking place in Utah), Variety reports that the production will be moving to California for the next sequel. That’s not to take advantage of filming locations there, but rather to get a tax break. The California Film Commission just awarded $152 million in tax incentives to a dozen different TV shows, and Fallout is on the list. For filming the next season in California, the show will receive $25 million in California tax credits.
The budget for the show is quite large, as Variety notes that it has $153 million in qualified expenditures for the season.

When Jonah Nolan first sat down to ideate for a Fallout TV show, he knew he was taking on a big task. The franchise has become one of the biggest names in the gaming industry, and doing it justice would require a high amount of thought and effort.
When adapting a beloved title such as Fallout, it’s important to understand the nuances of the series. It appears the series is in good hands, as Nolan has understood one of the most important aspects when it comes to a Fallout story: originality.
The Fallout TV Show Will Feature a Never-Before-Seen Story
The Fallout TV show is going to bring a new adventure for fans.
The issue with a lot of live-action adaptations is that they are not able to find a good balance between staying true to the source material and attempting something new. The same can’t be said for Fallout.

The Alien Report: "The Alien Report follows "The Abductee" (Braxton Hale), an everyday American who finds himself hijacked by extraterrestrial beings and taken on a terrifying journey of self-preservation, running afoul of classic "grey aliens", disturbing human-et hybrids, and the U.S. government's shady Men in Black. Based on countless documented reports made by self-proclaimed abductees, The Alien Report is a meticulous, straight-faced look at what an real-life alien abduction would be like, from the perspective of first-person cameras.
The Alien Report has screened at festivals worldwide, winning awards in the U.S., UK, Australia, and Brazil. Shot on iPhone and GoPro cameras as a non-traditional narrative composed of re-assembled found footage, the picture plays out as both a sci-fi thriller and first-person documentary. It is the intended first chapter in a trilogy of films about extraterrestrial abductions.
The Alien Report was directed by Patrick Donnelly and produced by Kevin Schroeder and Michael Sell.

Jonathan Nolan has co-written some of the finest genre films of the 21st century (from The Prestige to Interstellar to The Dark Knight) and co-showrun one of the most groundbreaking sci-fi TV shows ever made (Westworld). Now, he’s back — this time as director and executive producer of Amazon’s dramatic adaptation of the blockbuster Fallout video game franchise.
The project (from showrunners Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner) follows three very different survivors in a postapocalyptic landscape 200 years after a nuclear war. The show clearly differentiates itself from similar fare with its retro 1950s aesthetic and strong helpings of humor and shock-violence (trailer below).
I met up with Nolan (brother of director Christopher Nolan and partner to his producing and showrunning collaborator Lisa Joy) at his hotel during the South by Southwest Film and TV Festival. His clean-cut look from his days on Westworld has been replaced by the filmmaker sporting long,...

Surprise, but no surprise: X Chairman and SpaceX founder Elon Musk made a cameo at Prime Video’s Fallout experience on SXSW Thursday night.
While not an everyday occurrence in Hollywood, Musk’s appearance wasn’t shocking as he’s a longtime friends with Fallout EP and director Jonathan Nolan. Not to mention, Musk reportedly lives in the Austin area.
In fact, Nolan sat down for a long conversation with Musk back at SXSW 2018 in which they canvassed several topics including SpaceX’s timeline for Mars exploration as well as hopes for an underground high-speed transportation system in Los Angeles. This all culminated with Musk and his brother singing a rendition of “My Little Butter Cup” from the Steve Martin-Chevy Chase-Martin Short 1980s comedy, The Three Amigos (watch below). It was a trippy experience that bears repeating, specifically because we need a post-pandemic update on SpaceX’s Mars mission.

Today, Prime Video opened the vault to the official trailer for the upcoming post-apocalyptic series Fallout, based on the immensely popular retro-futuristic video game franchise. The cinematic trailer, which maintains the game’s expansive world-building and signature dark humor, sees vault dweller Lucy (Ella Purnell) struggle to adapt to the twisted and dangerous world of the irradiated wasteland and offers the first glimpse of Moldaver (Sarita Choudhury) and Ma June (Dale Dickey). Prime Video’s Fallout series will premiere all eight episodes on April 11 on the streaming platform, one day sooner than previously announced.

The 2 1/2-minute teaser (watch it below), unveiled at the Ccxp convention in São Paulo, showcases the scale of the game and several darkly comedic moments, with a tone set by a title card noting it’s from “the studio behind The Boys … and free 2-day shipping” and Nat King Cole’s “I Don’t Want to See Tomorrow” providing the soundtrack.

“Fallout” fans now have a new date to circle in their calendars: April 12, 2024. That’s when Prime Video’s highly anticipated live-action TV series adaptation of the beloved video game franchise will debut, the streamer announced on Monday (which is the 26th anniversary of “Fallout Day”).
Set in the future post-apocalyptic Los Angeles and world of “Fallout,” the series is an original story based on “Fallout” that will be part of the canon of the games. Beyond that, the exact plot of the TV show is under lock and key, but a fun video announcing the premiere date certainly gets those “Fallout” vibes exactly right.

Prime Video has canceled “The Peripheral,” despite the Chloë Grace Moretz-led sci-fi series receiving a renewal for a second season in February.
An individual with knowledge of the matter tells TheWrap that the cancelation stems from delays caused by the ongoing Writers’ Guild of America strike, which began on May 2, and SAG-AFTRA strike, which began on July 14. The individual noted that the series was originally intended to go into production this year for a release in 2024.
Based on the best-selling novel of the same name by William Gibson, the series hailed from “Westworld” creators Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan’s Kilter Films banner, who are under an overall deal at Amazon Studios. “The Peripheral” follows Flynne Fisher (Moretz), a woman trying to hold together the pieces of her broken family in a forgotten corner of tomorrow’s America. The Peripheral has had its second-season renewal at Amazon’s Prime Video undone, putting an end to the sci-fi series.
The un-renewal comes during strikes by Hollywood writers and actors, and sources cite the work stoppages as the reason for The Peripheral not moving ahead with season two. Prime Video had picked up a second season in February, about two months after the first (and now only) season finished its run.
The series is the first show to have an order rescinded with the strikes cited as the reason for the un-renewal. Season two had begun preproduction in early May when writers went on strike, seeking a better contract from studios and streamers. Actors union SAG-AFTRA called its own strike in mid-July.

“The Peripheral” has been canceled at Amazon’s Prime Video, Variety has learned.
The news comes despite the fact that Amazon renewed the show for a second season back in February. The series, based on the William Gibson novel of the same name, debuted on Amazon on Oct. 21, 2022.
It starred Chloë Grace Moretz and hailed from executive producers Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan under their rich overall deal with Amazon. According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, the decision to not move forward with the second season was heavily influenced by the ongoing writers and actors strikes. In essence, even if the show was to go back into production soon, Season 2 would not be available until close to if not into 2025.
Per the official logline, the series “centers on Flynne Fisher (Moretz), a woman trying to hold together the pieces of her broken family in a forgotten corner of tomorrow’s America.

Exclusive: Prime Video will not be going forward with the previously ordered second season of its sci-fi drama series The Peripheral, starring Chloë Grace Moretz, Deadline has learned.
I hear The Peripheral is not the only Amazon scripted series whose renewal has been rescinded and there is at least one other series that won’t go to a second season.
According to sources, the cancellation stems from the length of the work stoppage due to the ongoing WGA strike, now in its 109th day, and the SAG-AFTRA strike, in Day 36, which have delayed production, creating large gaps between seasons and making shows miss their target release dates.
While this is the first known case of a renewal reversal amid the current strike, as Deadline reported earlier this week, there may be more series whose renewals could be rescinded or pending pickups not happen if the work stoppage stretches past Labor Day,...

More leaked production images from the upcoming Amazon “Fallout” TV series have appeared online. Reportedly taken this past December, the photos were shot from the window of a hospital that’s been dressed up to look like a Vault-Tec facility, complete with the famous logo.
The set photos initially appeared on Discord, but have since been disseminated on social media, thanks to a recent Reddit thread. The user who posted the photos, PrinceDaCat, also mentioned a video showing more of the set, which has also found its way online.
“The entrance down by the actors is painted and the entire room past the entrance and the hallways outside the room are also painted. The colors inside are of light and dark grey,” says the user, who also said that the set had plenty of green screens up for compositing purposes.

If you haven’t played the games, “Fallout” is a role playing action game series taking place at various points in the future, decades after a nuclear war in 2077 devastated the world and destroyed the United States. Each game focuses on a customizable player character descended from survivors who escaped the war by hiding in shelters called “vaults” and must now leave the shelter to explore the post-atomic world outside — which for mainly comedic reasons is always a combination of post-apocalyptic scavenger societies and 1950s retrofuturism.

HBO series ‘Westworld’ has been cancelled after four seasons, the network announced on Friday. The news comes barely within three months after the series aired its Season 4 finale.
Variety is told that a multitude of factors went into the decision to end the sci-drama, including the production’s hefty price tag, combined with dwindling viewership and an ongoing evaluation of programming across the board at HBO’s new parent, Warner Bros Discovery, reports Variety.
The David Zaslav-run company has been paring back spending as part of a plan to institute 3.5 billion in cost-saving synergies, which the business has promised to find over the next three years post-April merger.
However, even on the heels of a rough third-quarter earnings report, Zaslav has continued to underline the importance of healthy content spend, and HBO has several high-profile, big-budget dramas that make it clear the premium cabler isn’t cutting back overall,...

HBO has canceled “Westworld” after four seasons, the network announced Friday. The news comes just under three months after the series aired its Season 4 finale Aug. 14.
Variety is told a multitude of factors went into the decision to end the sci-drama, including the production’s hefty price tag, combined with dwindling viewership and an ongoing evaluation of programming across the board at HBO’s new parent, Warner Bros. Discovery.
The David Zaslav-run company has been paring back spending as part of a plan to institute 3.5 billion in cost-saving synergies, which the business has promised to find over the next three years post-April merger. However, even on the heels of a rough third-quarter earnings report, Zaslav has continued to underline the importance of healthy content spend, and HBO has several high-profile, big-budget dramas that make it clear the premium cabler isn’t cutting back overall, including “House of the Dragon,...

Welcome to Vault 33!
Amazon’s upcoming “Fallout” TV series, adapted from the popular, post-apocalyptic video game series, has gotten its first look, and it appears to take place, at least partly, in the underground bunker called Vault 33.
Released by Amazon on Tuesday, which also marked the 25th anniversary of the “Fallout” video game franchise, the first-look image shows the backs of two characters who are dressed in the iconic “Fallout” blue-and-yellow jumpsuits. They are both staring at the massive vault’s open door, which leads to a blindingly bright hole to the outside world. In the “Fallout” world, citizens sheltered in underground vaults to keep safe from nuclear radiation, wasteland mutants and deadly bandits. In the games, Vault 33 is located in San Diego and is one of the smaller shelters, with only six people being allowed inside.

For the TV viewer burned by “Westworld” and burned out by Marvel, Star Wars, and epic fantasy, Prime Video has an offer.
Unfortunately, “The Peripheral,” based on William Gibson’s 2014 novel, is not a comparable alternative to any of the dense, engrossing genre series it aspires to emulate. It has time travel, gaming, and the lure of a post-apocalyptic backdrop, but manages to suck the thrill out of these promising elements and deliver something decidedly mundane.
Created by Scott Smith, who serves as head writer, the series takes place in an approximation of our present, with slightly advanced technology that Flynne Fischer (Chloë Grace-Moretz) uses to dabble in a virtual reality “sim” procured by her brother Burton (Jack Reynor). Shockingly, the sim turns out to be the very real future, and suddenly saving both realities falls on Flynne’s charming Southern shoulders. Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy of “Westworld” executive produce,...

The Peripheral, from Westworld creators Lisa Joy and Jonathan “Jonah” Nolan, marks the executive producing husband-wife duo’s second venture into dystopian sci-fi for the small screen.
On Tuesday evening, the cast and crew of the Amazon Prime Video series gathered at the Ace Hotel in downtown Los Angeles to celebrate the show’s premiere.
“Jonah Nolan and Lisa Joy are two heavy hitters in sci-fi,” star Chloë Grace Moretz told The Hollywood Reporter on the carpet. “When you add [writer] William Gibson, on top of that, who is one of the godfathers of sci-fi, it was too good to be true.”
“One wonderful thing about Jonah and Lisa is that they know how to take sci-fi, and kind of boil it down in a way where it’s expansive, but also understandable,” she continued. “I think in this show, there’s such a warmth to it.

Prime Video dropped the latest trailer for The Peripheral, the long-gestating sci-fi drama from Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan’s Kilter Films that’s based on the bestselling novel by William Gibson. The cast and producers made an appearance at New York Comic-Con today to hype the series that premieres Oct. 21.
“When I read the book Count Zero [by Gibson], it felt like a first hit of acid. I never experienced anything like the worlds that Gibson created,” Nolan told convention goers Saturday. “I’ve watched every filmmaker rip off all the ideas, myself included, from his works and no one actually had the guts to go and adapt from the source. For us, it felt like coming full circle.”

Chloë Grace Moretz discovers a dangerous virtual reality in the official trailer for Amazon Prime Video series “The Peripheral,” from “Westworld” creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy.
In the sci-fi thriller series based on William Gibson’s novel, Moretz plays Flynne Fisher, a young woman living in the Blue Ridge Mountains in 2032 with her Marine veteran brother Burton (Jack Reynor) and ailing mother. As their mother grows sicker, Flynne and Burton make ends meet by playing paid simulations (aka sims).
According to the show’s official description, “The two siblings share Burton’s avatar, ‘jockeying’ for high-paying customers to beat challenging game levels. When Burton is offered a chance to beta test a new Sim, it’s Flynne who ends up playing, pretending to be her brother. The Sim takes place in London and it tasks Flynne with breaking into a corporation known as the Research Institute—to steal a valuable secret.
