Amazon Greenlights The Tick, I Love Dick, And Jean-Claude Van Johnson

27 September 2016 6:08 PM, PDT | AreYouScreening.com | See recent AreYouScreening news »

After another round of letting people check out pilots, Amazon Studios has given the go ahead on three series, and they’re all pretty fantastic.

I Love Dick, Jean-Claude Van Johnson, and The Tick all got series orders, and will come out in 2017. You can still catch the pilots if you didn’t manage to get to them yet, and at least now be more comfortable in the fact that you’ll get to watch the shows.

I Love Dick is a strong, but odd, effort starring Kevin Bacon, and is executive produced by Jill Soloway and Andrea Sperling of Transparent, so you can feel pretty safe there.

Jean-Claude Van Johnson is a weirdly fun spin on spy efforts that I think will suck in even those going in with low expectations.

And, The Tick is The Tick.

Get all the info below, and give the pilots a look.

Amazon Hands Out Full Series Orders For The Tick, I Love Dick And Jean-Claude Van Johnson

Good news for early adopters of The Tick, I Love Dick and the really rather bizarre Jean-Claude Van Johnson – Amazon has handed out series orders for all three comedy pilots after they were released for Prime members last month.

Confirmation comes to us via Deadline, revealing that the online giant enjoyed its most-watched pilot season to date. That’s quite the feat, with Joe Lewis, Head of Half-Hour Series at Amazon Studios, noting that “these pilots were vast in scope, disruptive in tone, challenging in story and sometimes even funny. It’s rewarding to see customers embrace them in such a huge way. We can’t wait to premiere these series next year on Prime Video.”

The Tick: First Clips For Amazon’s Superhero Series Scurry Online

19 August 2016 8:14 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

With the pilot episode due to scurry onto Amazon today, August 19, Entertainment Weekly has unleashed a pair of clips for the studio’s revival of The Tick, placing Peter Serafinowicz in the oversized shoes of the loopy blue superhero.

Flanked by Griffin Newman (Vinyl), Valorie Curry (House of Lies), Yara Martinez (Jane the Virgin) and Brendan Hines (Scorpion), these snippets tee up the dynamic between The Tick and Newman’s Arthur, who is central to Amazon’s long-awaited reboot series.

That’s according to Ben Edlund, the brains behind the larger-than-life character. In helping to bring The Tick to the small-screen, Edlund was conscious of injecting a distinctly human element into the drama to counter the otherworldly elements.

He’s the main character. He’s the one who has the arc. He’s the one who gives us the shoes you wear to pass through this universe. In the previous live-action, »

That said, there is a chance Garry Trudeau's Capitol Hill comedy, starring John Goodman, could be renewed for a third season. Matt Malloy, Clark Johnson, Mark Consuelos, Yara Martinez, Julie White, and Alicia Sable, also star.Should political events inspire another season, assuming the cast and crew were available, Alpha House could return one day in the hazy future. "I like to leave my options open, but I understand what you’re saying," Deadline reports Price said, in response to critics' frustration about Alpha House's nebulous status.Read More… »

New images from Amazon’s reboot of The Tick

We got our first look at Amazon Studios’ live-action reboot of The Tick last month [see here], and now we’ve got sixteen new images from the pilot, which sees Peter Searfinowicz taking over from Patrick Warburton as Ben Edlund’s big blue superhero; check them out here…

“This has been a labor of love for Amazon, Sony, and all of us,” states creator Ben Edlund. “The only way for this to have value was if we found a wholly new expression of The Tick and Arthur’s story in live-action, and I think we’re on to something! Visually and thematically this new Tick lives in the textures and rhetoric of today’s superhero saturation tsunami — and for it to be something you want to watch for hours, it needed to find its way to a story with heart and stakes, as well as absurdism.
