John Gulager is no stranger to the direct-to-video circuit. After his 2006 directorial debut Feast opened in very limited release, his following two sequels Feast 2: Sloppy Seconds and Feast 3: The Happy Finish went straight to DVD. Now, that may happen once again with his upcoming sequel Piranha 3Dd.
Supposedly even crazier and gorier than the first remake helmed by Alexandre Aja, Piranha 3Dd is bypassing theater screens in the UK, and will instead premiere on Blu-ray and DVD in that country on March 13 of 2012.
Piranha 3Dd was supposed to open in November of this year, here in the states. But Dimension Films pulled it from their release slate with no new release date given. The fact that it is going to DVD in the UK doesn't bode well for its theatrical presence here in the Us. Which is a shame, as it was made for the big screen in 3D. »
Original Story: Piranha 3Dd was originally slated to open in the Us this past November, but its release had been delayed. We were still expecting a new theatrical release date, but it appears that the UK theatrical run has been pulled and Piranha 3Dd is going direct-to-video. Will a Us release follow the same path?
The official British Video Association website lists a Piranha 3Dd theatrical release as being “Pulled From Schedule”, but notes a Blu-ray and DVD release on March 19, 2012. We’ll have more information the film’s Us release as soon as it becomes available. Here is the synopsis and cast/crew list from the Bva website:

According to the British Video Association, Dimension Films' Dimension 3Dd, the sequel to the remake that reteams Feast director John Gulager with writers Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan, has been pulled from its UK theatrical slot and instead will be dumped direct-to-disc on March 9, 2012. While the news is being downplayed on other websites, this definitely has repercussions here in the States. In other words, if Dimension Films is to release Stateside, it'll need to be in theaters before March 9. This sounds a bit fishy. More news as it comes in; until then, inside you'll find the UK synopsis for the flick starring Danielle Panabaker, Matt Bush, Chris Zylka, David Koechner, Meagan Tandy, Paul James Jordan, Jean-Luc Bilodeau, Hector Jimenez, Adrian Martinez, Clu Gulager, Gary Busey, Katrina Bowden, Christopher Lloyd, Ving Rhames, Paul Scheer, and even David Hasselhoff. »
Well this is not overly welcome news if it turns out to be factual but it appears that the John Gulager helmed bitey sequel 'Piranha 3Dd' is swimming straight past UK theatres and instead going to hit DVD and Blu-ray. The Dimension Films sequel has been plagued with release issues of late and is being bumped constantly at the moment. So if the Bva are to be trusted the direct to DVD release will arrive in the UK on 19 March 2012. No word yet as to whether or not the Us will follow suit? But time will tell. Danielle Panabaker ('The Ward', 'The Crazies'), Chris Zylka ('Shark Night 3-D'), Meagan Tandy ('Unstoppable'), David Koechner ('Final Destination 5'), Matt Bush, Paul James Jordan, Jean-Luc Bilodeau, Hector Jimenez, Adrian Martinez, Ving Rhames, Paul Scheer, Clu Gulager, Gary Busey, Christopher Lloyd and the sexy Katrina Bowden »
Some rather strange news has emerged today regarding the UK release of Piranha 3Dd, the sequel to Alexander Aja’s 2010 original. It seems UK distributor Ev has pulled the movies planned theatrical release and will instead debut the film on Blu-ray and DVD on March 19th 2012. A quick check of the Bva website confirms the story: http://www.bva.org.uk/node/1575877

A bit of odd news coming out of the UK: The John Gulager directed sequel to Alexandre Aja's Piranha has been pulled from the UK's theatrical release schedule and will be heading straight to DVD across the pond on March 19th, 2012.
What does this mean for the domestic release of Piranha 3Dd? Well, probably nothing, but we'll be keeping a close eye on things for you just in case. When we know something, you'll know.
Piranha 3Dd reteams Feast director John Gulager and writers Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan in the sequel starring Danielle Panabaker, Matt Bush, Chris Zylka, David Koechner, Meagan Tandy, Paul James Jordan, Jean-Luc Bilodeau, Hector Jimenez, Adrian Martinez, Clu Gulager, Gary Busey, Katrina Bowden, Christopher Lloyd, Ving Rhames, Paul Scheer and David Hasselhoff.
Thanks to DC reader Joey Monda for the heads-up.

In no particular order, these are the stand out films that are worth adding to any video library. The set of criteria is simple: a standout performance by one or more of the first billed actors that can be re-watched time and time again. Their complexity is what defines the film. Also important is the type of chills or thrills the movie offers, and the story being told.
Tucker and Dale vs. Evil
Dir.: Eli Craig.
Although this film is technically a 2010 product, it did not reach distribution until the following year. This one, like how some of the victims died in film, skips under the gun by being exceptionally funny with an adorable, luggable, teddy bear performance by Tyler Labine. This product is a better answer to a theatrical version of the Beverly Hillbillies. The clash of cultures is perfectly played up for laughs. »

The horror-comedy. Perhaps the most difficult sub-genre of film to perfect. Most attempts at horror-comedy don't come off well. Either they're too scary without enough comedy or (more frequently) mostly humor with not enough horror. A lot of times they just come across as trying too hard and cheesy. But every once in a while a movie gets it just right. And when that happens, audiences embrace and celebrate the brilliant and elusive successful horror-comedy.
That being said, in celebration of the upcoming release of Trent Haaga's Chop, we did our best to put together a list of 10 horror-comedies (in no particular order) that we feel are the most impressive efforts in the field. Wocka, wocka, wocka!
Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil (2011)
We've seen quite a few attempts at horror-comedy over the past few years, but recently none has been better than Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil. Starring Alan Tudyk »

Actor Boris Kodjoe has been chatting with Dread Central whilst on the set of the new 'Resident Evil' installment 'Resident Evil: Retribution'. But this time he wasn't so much spilling info about the undead and Milla Jovovich's hot costumes but more musing on his other project 'Nurse 3-D'. The sexual horror thriller from helmer Douglas Aarniokoski wrapped production a little while back and it seems that even Kodjoe is a little confused by the plot of the movie. When asked by the site about the project he responded ''I don't even know what that is. It's kind of like a sociopathic sort of crime thriller with lots of blood and gore.' Paz De La Huerta -below ('Boardwalk Empire') stars as the sensual nurse with a dark side and she's joined by Corbin Bleu ('High School Musical') and the ever sexy Katrina Bowden (' »
There are times when doing this job that you can sense an actor has been prepped by a studio with a formulaic response to questions regarding a particular production. Our recent chat with actor Boris Kodjoe on the set of Resident Evil: Retribution regarding Lionsgate's upcoming thriller Nurse 3D was the complete antithesis of a formulaic response.
In fact, the actor still seems completely perplexed by the film and its insanely outrageous story despite production wrapping on the project quite a while ago now.
When asked about Nurse 3D, a visibly baffled Kodjoe responded with, "I don’t even know what that is. It’s kind of like a sociopathic sort of crime thriller with lots of blood and gore."

The Screen Actors Guild has announced their list of nominations for the best performances of 2011. I have to point out that I'm surprised Tom Hardy and Joel Edgarton weren't nominated for their roles in Warrior, because they were pretty damn awesome in that film. I think they deserved a nom more than Leonardo DiCaprio. I'm a huge fan of DiCaprio but his performance in J. Edgar wasn't his best. Brad Pitt will end up taking home the award for Moneyball though. It was great to see Bridesmaids and The Help get a nomination for best ensemble cast. It will be interesting to see who takes home the award on this list, and how many of them will make their way to the Oscars.
Who would you like to see take home the award?
Here's the full press released with the list of Nominations:

If you’re at all sceptical about the upcoming sequel in the American Pie series, you’ve got nothing to worry about. Everything we’ve seen so far – which includes two terrific trailers, and plenty of other great stuff – has been completely spot on.
With all of the original prinipals from the original three films reprising their roles, American Reunion looks like it’s going to be one of next year’s best comedies.
One of the first things we saw from the film was the teaser poster back in August, and MTV Movies have now got the first proper poster to share with us, and it’s brilliant, paying homage to American Pie’s instantly recognisable poster from way back in 1999 (which you can see underneath in case you’ve forgotten, courtesy of Wikipedia).
- Kenji Lloyd
Since so much of the appeal of American Reunion lies in whatever lingering affection you have for 1999's American Pie, it's only natural that the marketing folks would try at every turn to remind you of how much you loved the first movie. That tactic is especially evident in the film's just-released poster, which recreates the one from the original. Sure, Jim (Jason Biggs) has clothes on, Michelle (Alyson Hannigan) is holding a baby bottle instead of a flute, Oz (Chris Klein) has way less hair, and the gang is apparently eating pies now instead of fucking them -- but the overall picture looks very familiar. Check it out after the jump. Here's the American Reunion poster: And for comparison, the American Pie one: [both posters via Movies.com ] I'm really hoping that the substitution of a baby bottle for the flute doesn't imply that Michelle will be doing to the former in this installment »

The actor is set to appear nude onscreen in forthcoming thriller Nurse 3-D, about two medical assistants who lure unfaithful men into a fatal trap.
He tells UsMagazine.com, "I will be naked in 3D. It should be interesting!"
Bleu admits he stepped up his exercise regime and restricted his diet to prepare for the shoot with co-star Katrina Bowden in order to look his best in the buff.
He says, "I did a lot of really strict eating - pretty much no carbs (carbohydrates) of any sort. No pasta, no rice, no bread. My trainer worked me like a dog. I did lots of interval training and lots of weights."
But Bleu insists he won't be giving fans as much of an eyeful as it sounds, adding, "You see my rear end. It's tasteful. It's done well."
He'll be the second 'High School Musical' star the public will see naked, but he'll be the first to do it in 3D.
The former Disney channel regular, told Us Weekly, he "will be naked in 3D" for his role in the 2012 film "Nurse 3D" about a woman who lures cheating men to their deaths.
Well, you won't get to see everything. The 22-year-old told the magazine he won't be going full frontal, "but you see my rear end," he said.
The actor, who has a number of more mature roles in several upcoming films, said he wasn't nervous about flashing his behind on screen, adding, "It's tasteful. It's done well."
But it wasn't all fun and sexy scenes -- getting naked on camera »
