C.O.W.L .is really shaping up into a great comic book. This issue gives us some context on another powered member of C.O.W.L., Kathryn Mitchell/Radia, and the distinctly unpleasant experience of being a female superhero in 1962. I really have to applaud this comic for taking a look at just how a woman would have been treated then (and in many respects is treated today), giving it a sense of historical authenticity.
Radia cannot catch a break in the way people treat her. In discussing what happened to Grant last issue, she lets slip that the girls in the office don’t consider her “part of the club” because she is single. People who want autographs constantly touch her, and even the Alderman she saved in...

Bill Hilary has been promoted to president of NuvoTV parent SiTV Media, under which NuvoTV’s current Evp Programming will add oversight of operations at Fuse, the network SiTV acquired from Msg in April for $275 million. That deal is expected to close shortly after a bidding battle with Sean Combs’ Revolt. Hilary joined NuvoTV last year ahead of the relaunch of the young Latino-skewing network, and since has helped spearhead a boost in original programming including the recently announced six music and entertainment series and specials, three unscripted dramas, two comedy series, and live sports specials. Among the new series is two from Jennifer Lopez’s Nuyorican Productions, stemming from her role as the network’s chief creative officer. He also helped the network’s rights acquisition of Showtime’s Dexter. Hilary will report to SiTV CEO Michael Schwimmer and will continue to have oversight of programming, development, acquisition and scheduling for NuvoTV,...

BBC America on Monday announced a new look for the channel -- including a new logo, on-air navigation and IDs -- designed by creative agency mOcean. In addition, the network will have a new tagline -- "a little Brit different" -- which "captures BBC America's aim of delivering U.S. audiences the highest-quality programming with a unique difference." The new look, which also will be reflected in a redesigned Web site at www.bbcamerica.com, will roll out starting Jan. 17. "After nine years in the American market, terrific reach and a loyal audience, we needed a fresh look," BBC America general manager Kathryn Mitchell said.
Britain's BBC announced an ambitious new drive into the U.S. market as it reached the 50 million-viewer milestone last week. The new strategy includes a doubling of the American channel's programming budget along with a plethora of new co-productions and content acquisitions, as well as a push into the U.S. Spanish-language market. BBC America general manager Kathryn Mitchell said Friday that program investment has doubled, mostly in drama and comedy, with production deals inked with the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Sky and a number of U.K. independents. Darren Childs, managing director of global channels for the BBC, said in an interview from London: "The 50 million mark is hugely critical, and it's to the point where we are near where we wanted to be, that is 65 million U.S. households in the next six months. ... We have some pretty big plans for the U.S."...
