Ava DuVernay Exits DreamWorks’ ‘Intelligent Life’

4 May 2016 4:33 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Director Ava DuVernay will no longer helm DreamWorks’ sci-fi movie “Intelligent Life.”

DuVernay had been attached to both “Intelligent Life” and Disney’s “A Wrinkle in Time,” but chose to focus on “Wrinkle” after DreamWorks tried to push “Intelligent Life” on the fast rack.

Lupita Nyong’o is still attached to star in the pic that centers on a United Nation employee that monitors outer-space and makes contact with a beautiful woman, who may be an alien.

Jurassic World” director Colin Trevorrow and his collaborator Derek Connolly wrote the script. Insiders say the film is still a high priority property at the studio, which hopes to start production later this year and announce a replacement in the coming weeks.

Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment is producing the project along with Frank Marshall, Trevorrow and the production banner Big Beach.

DuVernay is currently working on Own’s series “Queen Sugar,” which stars Rutina Wesley. »
