Lana Del Rey earns her first No. 1 album as sophomore set "Ultraviolence" takes the top of The Billboard 200 with 182,000 copies. Her debut album "Born to Die" made it to No. 2 in January 2012, with 77,000 sold, according to Nielsen Soundscan. British singer-songwriter Sam Smith bows at No. 2 with "In the Lonely Hour," moving 166,000. Sales were driven in part by the popularity of his single "Stay With Me." Linkin Park's new "The Hunting Party" moved enough for No. 3, with 110,000. The vets last rocked the chart in 2012 with "Living Things," which made it to No. 1 with 223,000. The "Frozen" soundtrack falls No. 3 to No. 4 with 42,000 (-15%). "G" whiz, "Wheel of Fortune" judges -- you sure are sticklers for details. Wednesday night's episode of the long-running game show has sent ripples of controversy across the internet and the nation as a whole, thanks to a sketchy ruling that has many viewers crying foul. It's time to play ... "Wheel Of Fortune"!!!! Everybody ready? Great, the category is "Living Things"... now guess this phrase: Se _EN S_ _ Ns _ -S_ _ Mm _ NGPretty easy right? Not if you were a contestant named Renee on Wednesday night's show -- who correctly solved the puzzle, but mispronounced "Seven Swans a-Swimming" ... as "Swimmin." Turns out, no "g" ... meant no cash (which in Renee's case was thousands) -- because even though the letter was clearly on the board,...

How "Wheel of Fortune" contestant Renee managed to keep her cool on the air is beyond us after watching the above clip that aired on Wednesday.
With thousands of dollars on the line, Renee elected to solve the "Living Things" puzzle that read, "S E _ E N S _ _ N S A-s _ _ M M _ N G." She seemed to correctly answer "Seven Swans A-swimming." Only she tailed off before sounding out the last "G," making her pronunciation sound like "Swimmin.'" However, the "G" was on the board in plain sight.
Renee didn't get credit for the answer. Contestant Amy did, on the next spin. But notice in the aftermath how host Pat Sajak appears to gloss over the potential tension by telling puzzled winner Amy that Renee understood what had happened. Then watch Renee's mouth tighten as she dutifully nods, while Sajak calmly explains to the audience and Amy that...

Chris Brown has scored his first UK number one album, with his fifth LP Fortune debuting at the top of the chart. Brown's follow-up to 2011's F.A.M.E. replaced Linkin Park's Living Things at the summit and outsold the number two album, Overexposed by Maroon 5, by 11,000 copies. Linkin Park slipped to third, as Ed Sheeran's + dropped one place to number four. Emeli Sandé's Our Version of Events - which is the second biggest-selling album of 2012 so far, behind Adele's 21 - held on to the number five spot. Adele's record-breaking sophomore album rose from number 15 to number nine, after slipping out of the top ten last month for the first time since its January 2011 release. Aside (more)...

Linkin Park takes No. 1 over Maroon 5 on The Billboard 200 this week as “Living Things” sells 223,000, over “Overexposed’s” 222,000. Only a few copies over 1,000 separated the two titles in the race to the top. That makes it Linkin Park’s fifth No. 1 album, which no other band has done since 2000. The rockers’ last “A Thousand Suns” also made it to the summit with 241,000 in 2010. Maroon 5’s last album “Hands All Over” (2010) also made it to the runner-up spot. Womp womp. When Linkin Park began the process of making Living Things, they weren't sure where the journey would take them ... after all, the last time they headed down this path — on 2010's A Thousand Suns — their voyage ended up in decidedly dystopian territory: It was, for all intents and purposes, an album that sounded like a sonic apocalypse, and dealt with similarly dark themes. But to be honest, that didn't dissuade them. Because, as they've discovered over their 15-year career, creative uncertainty is practically par for the course. It truly seems that Linkin Park don't know what kind of album they're making until it's done. And even then, sometimes they're still not sure.

For “Living Things,” out Tuesday (26), the Los Angeles band took a breath, regrouped, and returns with an album that pulls in all the elements that made millions of rock/rap fans love them initially, but they manage to shake it up plenty in fresh and sometimes surprising ways. Whether you call it a music video or a movie trailer with a really cool soundtrack, the latest clip for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter offers some new scenes and great music.
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter hits the big screen this week so the schedule is getting kind of tight when it comes to pushing out new movie trailers. Fortunately, someone in marketing figured out that if you put a song from the soundtrack in the clip and use plenty of shots of the band, you can call it a music trailer… which apparently isn’t the same thing as a movie trailer.
The song, Powerless, comes from Linkin Park’s new album, Living Things, and it’s actually fitting for the video, blending perfectly with the scenes of Honest Abe’s fight against the undead.
Even with the release date within sight, I’m still at a loss with guessing...

This week sees the release of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter into the world, and considering the reaction audiences have had to the trailer at various trips to the movie theaters, I have a bad feeling it's going to bomb (even though I'm starting to come around to the ridiculous historical remix). And so, in leading up to the film's release on Friday, a new video, being dubbed a music trailer, has been unleashed. The Linkin Park song Powerless, off their new album Living Things hitting shelves June 26th, sets the stage along with plenty of new footage from Timur Bekmambetov's bloody adaptation. Watch below! Here's the Linkin Park music trailer for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter via Yahoo UK: President Lincoln's mother is killed by a supernatural creature, fueling his passion to crush vampires and their slave-owning helpers. As if the drastic left turn they took with 2010's A Thousand Suns wasn't proof enough, it should be fairly obvious at this point that Linkin Park have grown tired of doing things the traditional way. Rather, they're determined to blaze their own trail, which, given their standing as one of the hugest rock acts on the planet, is a certainly admirable — if not slightly questionable — way of operating.
And though the follow-up to the willfully dissonant Suns — Living Things (due June 26) — isn't quite as obtuse, it still finds the band experimenting with vastly different soundscapes, lyrical themes and recording techniques, simultaneously honing their focus and expanding their horizons. Linkin Park's "Burn It Down"
Photo: Warner Bros. Records
On the upcoming Living Things album, Linkin Park veer away from the political territory they explored on Minutes to Midnight and A Thousand Suns, and instead mine decidedly personal topics — relationships crumbling, trust eroding, faith failing. In a lot of ways, it is perhaps the most aptly titled record in recent history.
As proof, look no further than the first single, "Burn It Down," which is full of lines like "I played the soldier, you played the king/ Struck me down, when I kissed that ring," none of which are about empire building or military service. Instead, the song is very much about the give/take dynamics of a relationship, and what happens when it all falls apart.

While making its new album, “Living Things,” Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda says, “it almost felt like a drug trip.” Shinoda played six new songs from the set, out June 26, for Hitfix and a handful of other bloggers in a North Hollywood studio a few days ago. He further prefaced the listening session by adding, “We realized we’d run away from the things we started with.” But instead of returning to the sound of its first album, 2000’s “Hybrid Theory,” Linkin Park, along withproducer Rick Rubin (who co-produced with Shinoda), sought to bring in the best of the band’s rock and...

The Lineup for the May 20 Billboard Music Awards got a fuel-injection on Tuesday (May 1) when Kelly Clarkson, Usher, Linkin Park and Nelly Furtado were added to the performer Lineup.
The show, which will air on ABC from the MGM Grand Arena, was already slated to feature songs from , Lmfao, The Wanted , Carrie Underwood and Cee Lo Green.
In no coincidence at all, the show will come just as many of the headliners are preparing to drop new albums, including Usher (Looking at Myself, June 12), Furtado, (The Spirit Indestructible, June 19), Bieber (Believe , June 19) and Park, (Living Things, June 26). More acts and presenters will be announced in the coming weeks for the show that will be co-hosted by "Modern Family" stars Julie Bowen and Ty Burrell.

Co-headlining tour kicks off August 11, and Incubus frontman Brandon Boyd is making plans for an Iron Maiden-inspired show.

Last week, Linkin Park not only announced the title and release date of their new album — it's called Living Things, and it's due June 26, to catch you up — but they revealed plans to co-headline this summer's Honda Civic Tour, alongside Incubus.
The trek kicks off August 11, and, somewhat unbelievably (given both acts' longevity), it'll be the first time the two bands have teamed up — though they've been kicking the idea around for a while now. Or, at least that's how LP's Chester Bennington and Incubus' Brandon Boyd remember it. Though, to be fair, their memories aren't exactly crystal-clear.
"I remember Mike Shinoda had run into Mike [Einziger] from Incubus, and off the cuff said, 'Yeah,...

Linkin Park have revealed more details about their fifth studio album Living Things. In an interview with NME, co-frontman Mike Shinoda suggested that the album takes the band "back to their roots", although he dismissed reports that it will mark a return to their early nu-metal sound. Shinoda explained: "What we've actually said is that the record gets back to our roots and it's captured a feeling that we haven't gone after in many years. I think that's gotten misconstrued as a return to heavy guitars. There are guitars on the record of course, though." Asked how the record compares to their last, A Thousand Suns, Shinoda said: "With Minutes To Midnight and even more so with A Thousand Suns, we were making an effort to (more)...

Linkin Park will release its latest album, “Living Things” on June 26. The album, co-produced by Rick Rubin and LP’s Mike Shinoda, is preceded by first single, “Burn It Down,” which went to radio today (16). “Burn It Down” utilizes the now tried-and-true Linkin Park formula of starting with Chester Bennington singing, usually in some kind of psychic pain, and then the song escalates into a twisted metal mass and then Shinoda comes in with a rap at some point. If the band does its job right, there’s usually a great sense of catharsis that creep in by the end of...

Last month, when invited MTV News to the set of their new "Burn It Down" video, frontman Chester Bennington told us that he knew the title of the band's upcoming fifth studio album, but he couldn't reveal it just yet.
"Soon, though," he smiled. "You'll know it soon."
And he wasn't kidding. Because on Monday (April 16) — the same day "Burn It Down" hit radio — Linkin Park let it be known that their new album will be called Living Things and will be in stores June 26. Co-produced by Rick Rubin and LP's Mike Shinoda, the new album is the follow-up to 2010's A Thousand Suns, and, as Bennington explained, it splits the difference between that record's electronic experimentation and the band's earlier,...

The Minneapolis Underground Film Festival is still going on this weekend and it got some advance press, so we’ll start with those: First, the Star Tribune newspaper described the fest as feeling like “a hardy community of low-budget filmmakers supporting and celebrating one another.” Local public radio station Mpr has a nice interview with festival founder, and entrant, Greg Yolen. The MinnPost just gets right down to business and states the facts, but also focuses on the Minneapolis Project short film collection. So, that’s it for Muff. In nearby film fest news, last month the Ann Arbor Film Festival posted up an interview with experimental filmmaker Steve Cossman, who also runs the successful Mono No Aware annual expanded cinema event. The Winnipeg Film Group throws a shout out to several members who have won awards recently, such as Cecilia Araneda, Caroline Monnet, Andrew George and more. Congrats to everybody!

Floria Sigismondi, "The Runaways" helmer, said she would love to direct Lady GaGa's music video. The female director confirmed her interest to MTV on the red carpet of the film's New York premiere on March 17 at the Landmark Sunshine Cinema.
"She'd be fun. She's quite theatrical," Floria said. "I don't know, but I kind of grew up with costumes all my life, so I would go in there and do something kind of surreal maybe."
Floria Sigismondi hit the Wednesday red carpet event along with actresses Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart as well as The Runaways' real members Joan Jett and Cherie Currie. The film arrives in limited U.S. theaters on March 19 before opening wide on April 9.
Although "The Runaways" is her directorial debut, Floria actually has directed a bunch of music videos, ranging from Marilyn Manson's "Beautiful People" to The White Stripes' "Blue Orchid...

Today marks the opening of "The Runaways," a biopic about the seminal all-female rock band starring Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett and Dakota Fanning as Cherie Currie. The reviews are already pretty positive, which is good for the stars, the band members and especially director Floria Sigismondi.
"The Runaways" represents the feature film debut for Sigismondi, though as any fan of freaky music videos can attest, she's no stranger to rock-fueled images. She has spent the better part of the last 15 years crafting rich, intricate and slightly disturbing clips for an eclectic batch of artists like Marilyn Manson, Christina Aguilera, Interpol, Incubus and Sheryl Crow. She's crafted dozens of clips, but here are her 10 best.
Christina Aguilera, "Fighter"
Sigismondi takes Aguilera's rugged track from Stripped and matches it with a faux-industrial setting where the singer's metamorphosis can occur. It's a perfect example of Sigismondi's aesthetic: Dusty but modern, populist but arty.

Dakota Fanning prepared to play The Runaways' Cherie Currie by fronting Los Angeles band the Living Things. The teenage actress admits she was terrified about the idea of singing live in biopic "The Runaways", and so director Floria Sigismondi suggested she rehearse with her husband Lillian Berlin's band.
Fanning says, "Even the thought of singing karaoke has always terrified me, and I had never felt the power of a band behind me." The "I Am Sam" star grew so confident as the Living Things' stand-in singer she even invited members of her family to drop by the studio to see her perform.
And Currie was immediately impressed when she first saw the actress in action. As a token of respect Currie gave Fanning a David Bowie belt she made herself when she was 15 - the actress wears the belt as Currie in the film, which hits cinemas in America on Friday,...

"The Runaways" is Floria Sigismondi's feature-film directorial debut, but she has been directing music videos since 1993's "A Certain Slant of Light" by the Tea Party. In the nearly two decades since, she's helmed a number of influential and high-profile videos for everyone from Marilyn Manson ("Beautiful People") to the White Stripes ("Blue Orchid") to Christina Aguilera ("Fighter), just to name a few.
Most recently, the prolific director shot the video for "Let It Rain" for the Living Things, the band fronted by her husband, Lillian Berlin. While she's currently trying to figure out what her next film project might be, Sigismondi said that she wouldn't mind shooting a music video for Lady Gaga. Is there anything better than video of a good controlled explosion? Especially one in the midst of a snow storm? This morning, the Lake Champlain Bridge (which links New York and Vermont over the lake of the same name on their shared border) was brought down via 800 pounds of explosives.
It's a pretty cool piece of video and reminds us of some of the great demolitions of the past, including the Kingdome in Seattle and the Alladin Hotel in Las Vegas. Unfortunately, the footage doesn't have any accompanying audio, which means that you don't get a good sense of the size of the explosion (which was probably blunted by the weather).
Luckily, there are plenty of songs about destruction that you can fire up in order to properly enjoy a good explosion video. There's P.O.D.'s "Boom," as well as the System of a Down song of the same name.

Kanye West's remix of Peter Bjorn and John's "Young Folks" set a high water mark for the small (but growing) realm of hip-hoppers sampling indie acts. And if just one Pb&J remix was enough to make music junkies scramble for their "reblog" buttons, then howzabout a whole album of them? As we just learned from MTV, mixtape maven Mick Boogie will be orchestrating the release of Re-Living Things, a hip-hop remix mixtape (remixtape?) of Pb&J's Living Things.
