She said: ''I was a massive 'Corrie' fan from the age of 13. Without sounding big-headed, I had this weird feeling that I'd end up there. I kept being called to castings so I was in and out »

Broadcaster to defy ITV legal threats over show showing stars allegedly promoting bogus products in breach of marketing rules

Channel 4 is to defy legal threats by ITV and air an undercover sting allegedly showing Coronation Street actors promoting bogus products on Twitter in breach of marketing rules.

The one-hour Dispatches film, Celebs, Brands and Fake Fans, will go out on Channel 4 on Monday 5 August at 8pm.

Coronation Street actors including Brooke Vincent, who plays Sophie Webster, are said to have been covertly filmed receiving beauty products from a fictitious cosmetics firm set up by Dispatches. Some of the TV stars later tweeted about the products, which included bogus "mystique spray" and a bottle of toner that contained only water.

Earlier this month ITV threatened to sue Channel 4 over suggestions that the actors received free gifts or engaged in any "unlawful marketing promotion", claims the broadcaster has denied. »

Dispatches investigation shows soap opera actors allegedly promoting bogus products in breach of marketing rules

ITV has threatened to sue Channel 4's Dispatches if it airs an undercover sting purporting to show Coronation Street actors promoting bogus products on Twitter in breach of marketing rules.

The broadcasters squared up on Wednesday following reports that a number of on-screen stars publicised beauty products from a fictitious cosmetics firm set up by the Channel 4 current affairs show.

ITV bosses denied allegations that some Coronation Street actors had received free gifts or engaged in any "unlawful marketing promotion".

The broadcaster has written to Dispatches threatening legal action over the undercover film. An ITV spokeswoman said on Wednesday: "Cast members responded to tweets sent directly to them by some brands to say thank you.

"Contrary to the allegations which have been made, they didn't receive free gifts in return for tweeting or »

The show beauties were invited to Manchester's posh Great John Street Hotel for a ''gifting event'' - which aims to persuade celebrities to promote products to their Twitter followers - where the fake firm had set up a stand.
