Shawn Johnson, 'Dancing with the Stars' Season 8 Champion

20 May 2009 1:35 AM, PDT | From Celebrity Mania | See recent Celebrity Mania news

"Dancing with the Stars" season 8 has reached its final on Tuesday, May 19, revealing the winner which is Shawn Johnson, an Olympic gold medalist, and her partner Mark Ballas. They won with 1% votes more than the second place finisher's, Gilles Marini and his partner Cheryl Burke, after combined with the judges' scores.

On the first night (Monday, May 18) of the two-night finale, each couple performed two dances - a paso doble set to the same song, Pink's "So What", and the anything-goes freestyle. Both Shawn and Gilles scored 58 from the judges for their two performances.

Shawn and her partner, Mark, only scored 28 out of 30 for their paso, but apparently the judges were amazed by their freestyle and granted them full score for their second performance. In opposite, Gilles and Cheryl got perfect score for their first performance. But their freestyle apparently was less satisfying for the judges as Carrie Ann thought

Olympian Shawn Johnson Becomes The Youngest Contestant To Win The Disco Trophy Ball In "Dancing With The Stars"

19 May 2009 11:44 PM, PDT | From icelebz.com | See recent iCelebz news

Gymnast champ Shawn Johnson is also a champ in the ballroom. The Olympic gold medalist narrowly beat actor Gilles Marini as the winner of the eighth season of "Dancing With the Stars."

At 17, Johnson became the youngest contestant ever to join the show. Partnered with professional dancer Mark Ballas, she was handed the disco ball trophy after her thumping the "Sex and the City" actor with just less than 1 percent lead, the closest margin ever in the history of the show.

This is Ballas' second win. He was partnered with another Olympic gold medalist, figure skater Kristi Yamaguchi, when they were named winners of the sixth season of the show.

It might have been a sweet victory for Johnson, who missed her prom earlier this month, but for Marini, this might just be the most disappointing loss. He and two-time champ partner Cheryl Burke had scored more highest-scores for the week than any other contestant.

"The Insider"'s Samantha Harris took her "Sam Cam" backstage Tuesday night after rodeo cowboy Ty Murray and his partner Chelsie Hightower were booted from the ballroom on "Dancing with the Stars."   Ty tells "The Insider" that although he's proud of making it to the semi-finals he is also very relieved. "I don't have to learn anymore dances," he says. "I'm tired of making up dances every day. That's the thing about a show that America votes you off, that means you stayed as long as you needed to. You feel like you have such an army of people rooting for you and wanting you to stay on -- that’s what kept us going." Gilles Marini and his partner Cheryl Burke tell "The Insider" about their plans for next week's finale. "Something memorable," Cheryl says about what she's planning for the freestyle dance. Video: Gilles Marini's Perfect 30 Waltz and Salsa in 'Dwts'

12 May 2009 12:41 AM, PDT | From Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news

Gilles Marini and Cheryl Burke once again received a perfect score of 30 on "Dancing with the Stars". The new set of score is particularly critical since the couple is in the semi-final round along with three others, Ty Murray - Chelsie Hightower, Shawn Johnson - Mark Ballas, and Melissa Rycroft - Tony Dovolani.

Each of the pairs had to dance twice, a ballroom piece and one Latin style. Gilles and Cheryl picked on Waltz as their ballroom choice, dancing to Norah Jones' "Come Away With Me". In the rehearsal, Cheryl brought in Jonathan Roberts to teach Gilles on how to be a classy man dancer using the concept of 'frame and picture'.

The Waltz was raved on by the judges. Bruno jumped right up while saying that Gilles was "irresistibly romantic" and Carrie Ann said it was subtle, sweet and perfection. Len, while sitting down, said that he was
