Preparation for her role in The Waiter (2007) included studying and learning Arabic with proper pronunciation, tone, and rhythm in only one month. Jason Konopisos, the writer/director of The Waiter: Chronicles of Purgatory, decided to introduce the character of 'Saree' who is first introduced in the prequel (shooting August 2009).

Crystal Mantecon was a National Merit Scholar and received a Bachelors in Business Administration with concentrations in International Business and Marketing from The University of Oklahoma on a full scholarship. She is also an alumnus of the Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity and of the Alpha Gamma Delta Fraternity.

She attended Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (Dallas Arts Magnet) majoring in Music with a concentration in Vocal Performance.

She is of Mexican and Cuban ancestry.
