Calm down everyone, it’s not a remake of the 1964 Michael Caine starring classic. Instead, Zulu will focus on two South African cops pushed to the limits after a new drug hits the impoverished streets and two women turn up dead. Orlando Bloom and Forrest Whitaker play the cops in a world struggling with government corruption and extreme prejudice. The trailer really strikes some emotional chords and looks to balance the intense violence with complex characterisation. Jerome Salle, the man behind Largo Winch and its sequel directs this as his English language debut.

A week ahead of the announcement of its official competition, the Cannes Film Festival has announced the closing night film of its 66th edition. Jérôme Salle’s "Zulu," which stars Forest Whitaker, Orlando Bloom and Tanya van Graan, has been set to finish off the festival on May 26th. Baz Luhrmann's "The Great Gatsby" had already been announced as the opening night selection. "Zulu" is a South Africa set crime drama based on French author Caryl Férey’s novel. Whitaker and Bloom play two South African police officers on opposite sides of the apartheid divide who end up working together. It marks Salle's first film in English. The film is a co-production between the UK, France and South Africa by Pathé, M6 Films, and Lobster Film. The 66th Cannes Film Festival runs May 15-26. Its full lineup will be announced next Thursday. »

10 years ago, the thought of a straight-to-dvd franchise would have probably gotten you laughed out of any meeting in Hollywood. Today, modest theatrical hits such as Wrong Turn, The Scorpion King, and even The Lost Boys have been given new life. The 2008 action-thriller Death Race is another one of these success stories, spawning Death Race 2 in 2011 and the upcoming Death Race 3: Inferno, debuting on Blu-ray and DVD January 22. I recently had the chance to speak with Luke Goss, who returns as Carl "Luke" Lucas (aka Frankenstein), reprising his role from Death Race 2. Take a look at what he had to say about taking another deadly ride as Luke.
This is your second time around as Carl Lucas. Are you continually exploring new aspects of the character each time around? »
