Debra Messing joins ABC’s “Dirty Dancing” musical event, and LeBron James scores a new CNBC series in today’s TV news roundup…

Casting:

Debra Messing has been cast in ABC’s adaptation of “Dirty Dancing,” it was announced Thursday. Messing will play Marjorie Houseman, mother of Abigail Breslin’s “Baby.” Described as a meticulous 1960s housewife who takes great pride in her family, Marjorie is using the summer vacation to try and rekindle her romance with her workaholic husband. Messing is repped by the Gersh Agency, 3 Arts Entertainment and Rick Genow at Stone, Genow.

ABC’s “Dirty Dancing” musical event is produced by Lionsgate Television in association with Allison Shearmur Productions, with exec producers Allison Shearmur, Eleanor Bergstein (who penned the screenplay for the 1987 film) and Adam Anders. The project is being adapted for television by Jessica Sharzer and directed by Wayne Blair.
