Grace Director Paul Solet Heads Into A Dark Summer!

8 May 2013 11:52 AM, PDT | iconsoffright.com | See recent Icons of Fright news »

It’s been about 4 years since Paul Solet’s damn good directorial debut Grace, but everyone’s favorite Jack Chop salesman is stepping behind the camera again for Dark Summer. Described as highly stylized modern ghost story, “the film follows Daniel Williamson, a 17 year old on house arrest for the summer. With his mother away on business, a horrifying incident occurs, followed by an even more terrifying presence in the house.”

Our pal Ryan Turek of Shock Till You Drop premiered the poster, which you can see above. I’m certainly digging the vintage border design and title treatment of the poster. The film will begin lensing this Fall, for a 2014 release.

What say you Fright-fans? Stoked for another film from fahkin’ Paul Solet? Icons own Robg & Adam Barnick are huge supporters of Grace (Barnick even worked on it!), and we have a wealth of content on the site devoted to it. »

Marc Senter Talks the BlackBoxTV Short Film Going Down

23 April 2013 9:00 AM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

We caught up with actor and producer Marc Senter over the weekend to chat with him regarding his role in Grace director Paul Solet’s BlackBoxTV short Going Down as well as his growing musical inclinations and more. Read on!

Senter, who came to horror audiences’ attention with his starring role of “Ray Pye” in Chris Sivertson’s 2006 indie darling The Lost, and who subsequently has appeared in Darren Lynn Bousman’s The Devil’s Carnival and Simon Rumley’s Red, White & Blue, riffed on his collaboration with Solet on the Angel Heart’esque Going Down.

“Paul and I met a handful of years back,” said Senter, who portrays “Gunther Clearly” opposite actress Dinora Walcott in Going Down, of the collaboration. “We've wanted to work together for a while now so it was a blast finally getting the opportunity to do so. Aside from being a great director, Paul's also a really positive guy. »

Paul Solet took the horror genre by storm with his awesome 2009 film Grace. While we’ve all been waiting for a follow-up from Solet, Icons interviewed Paul back in ’09 (here), and Solet’s popped up here and there in some pretty funny shorts, such as Adam Green’s silly and funny as hell Jack Chop.

Well, Solet’s now back with a new short film, Going Down, starring Marc Senter (Red White & Blue, The Lost) and it’s definitely a fun ride. Check it out!

Paul Solet's been keeping busy since directing Grace.  Lately, he's been dabbling in photography, however, recently he directed a short film called Going Down for Black Box TV.  You can watch this bite-sized tale inside.

We like Paul Solet. Best known for writing and directing evil infant thriller Grace, Solet can be seen in the upcoming season of Holliston, which premieres here on FEARnet on June 4th. While you wait for Holliston, check out Solet's latest short film, "Going Down," which he directed for BlackBox TV, based off a script by Jeff Heath. The short is a stylish noir-ish tale in the vein of The Twilight Zone and stars Marc Senter (Cabin Fever 2).

Watch Going Down, A New Dastardly Short on Blackbox TV

15 April 2013 8:15 AM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Sometimes the simplest ideas are the best. Like, what's more off-putting than an elevator ride? It's claustrophobic; you're trapped in a tiny box with strange people. Any number of bad things can happen. And that's the premise behind a dastardly short entitled Going Down.

Directed by Paul Solet, Going Down was shot in one day and edited in three, and it's a testament to what can be done with minimal time and resources. It's a truly effective vehicle, and the whole thing takes about five minutes. Nicely done. The film stars the amazing Marc Senter and Dinora Walcott with a score by Grammy-nominated composer Austin Wintory.

Synopsis

Gunther Cleary has his whole day mapped out, but a simple elevator ride shows him that life doesn't always go as planned.

FEARnet Movie Review: 'Girls Against Boys'

26 February 2013 12:00 PM, PST | FEARnet | See recent FEARnet news »

I'm always impressed when male filmmakers use the horror genre to say something interesting about women. Obviously we need more female writers, producers, and directors (a lot more) in the horror genre, but at least we can enjoy it when creative men step up and represent the female gender in frank and honest fashion. Filmmakers like Lucky McKee (May, The Woman), Paul Solet (Grace), Mitch Lichtenstein (Teeth), Pascal Laugier (Martyrs), Neil Marshall (The Descent), Richard Bates (Excision) and several others are plainly interested in how women can function within the realm of horror as heroines, anti-heroines, victims, and victimizers, which makes each new discovery sort of exciting.

Add Austin Chick's low-key but coolly fascinating Girls Against Boys to the list of indie horror films, written and directed by men, that aspire to give young women something new to do in horror films. Veteran of the indie circuit -- he »
