Christian Ziege
Christian Ziege spent his childhood and youth in Berlin-Neukölln. He first attended the Ernst-Abbe-Gymnasium, then he was a student at the Upper School for Economics. There he completed his school education with a secondary school leaving certificate. He then aimed for a high school diploma. He dropped out of school early in 1990 because of a football offer from Bayern Munich. Ziege joined the club "FC Südstern 08" at the age of six. There he played in the position of goalkeeper and learned the basic practices of football. His next club was "TSV Rudow". In 1985, Ziege moved to the club "Hertha 03" Zehlendorf. There he also played for the A-youth in what was then the highest amateur class, the Oberliga. In 1988, the first major success of his career came when Christian Ziege and his team became German B youth champions.
In 1990 he became a player at Bayern Munich. He initially played for the amateurs of 1. FC Bayern Munich, but he was already training with the professional team. After six months he moved to Bayern's professional camp. There he played a total of thirteen times in the first half of the year. In 1991, Ziege was named to the Olympic team. In the same year he became a member of the U21 national team. From his second year playing for the white-blue record champions, he became a regular player there. In 1993 he made his international debut. He was used in the encounter with the Brazilians at the US Cup in Washington. The comparison ended with a 3:3 equalizer. The following year, Christian Ziege won the German championship with the Bayern team. In 1994, Ziege married the Hungarian Hilda, whom he divorced two years later. In 1996 he won the UEFA Cup with Bayern. The following year they won the national championship again.
In 1997 he married his second wife Pia. In the same year, Christian Ziege left Bayern Munich and then played for the Italian club "AC Milan", with whom he became Italian champion in 1999. In 1998 he played in the German jersey at the World Cup in France. Ziege left AC Milan at the end of the 1999 season and was signed by the English club Middlesbrough FC. Here Ziege became the best German player in the Premier League. His son Alessandro-Christian was born in 1998. His daughter Maria followed in May 1999. Ziege's tally after 28 games was five goals for the club. In 2000 he ended his contract with Middlesbrough FC and moved to Liverpool FC. But the German midfielder was not happy there from a sporting perspective. He wasn't a regular on the team, but he still played a part in the club's successes. He gave his best to Liverpool's victory in the UEFA Cup, the League Cup and the Club Cup.
The following year he was recruited by "Tottenham Hotspur". Since then, Christian Ziege has played for the London suburb's club. For the 2004/2005 season he moved back to the Bundesliga as captain of Borussia Mönchengladbach. After an ankle injury, Christian Ziege officially ended his playing career on October 20, 2005. He appeared in 72 international matches and scored 9 goals. Christian Ziege supports his former clubs TSV Rudow Berlin and Hertha 03 Zehlendorf by donating money for youth work. In the same way, it assumes social responsibility for other institutions. He supported Peter Maffay's musical fairy tale "Tabaluga" and the project "Noah's Ark" from Munich, which aim to support sick children and socially disadvantaged families. After his playing career ended, Ziege acquired his A coaching license. From June 2006 to March 2007 he coached Borussia Mönchengladbach's U17 juniors. On March 8, 2007, he took over the position of sports director at Borussia Mönchengladbach after the club parted ways with Peter Pander.
