When she arrived in Warsaw just weeks after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Yanina Kucher — an entertainment industry veteran with more than a decade’s experience in her country’s film business — wasn’t prepared for an extended stay. She’d left first Kyiv, then Lviv, with her cousin’s wife and young niece in tow, traveling to neighboring Poland to wait out what she hoped would be a short-lived skirmish.
Warsaw felt somehow familiar, less geographically and culturally removed than the alien metropolises of Western Europe. UTA has signed “Cold War” star Tomasz Kot.
He has appeared in more than 30 films and 26 plays as well as dozens of television series.
Most recently, Kot has received award-season buzz for his starring role as Wiktor in Pawel Pawlikowski’s feature “Cold War” for Amazon. The project has earned him a nomination for best actor by the European Film Awards and the movie has been recognized by the Critics’ Choice Awards, New York Film Critics Circle, and the National Board of Review in the best foreign language film category.

New projects revealed, including thriller described as “David Lynch meets Ken Loach”.
New films by internationally feted Polish filmmakers Jan Komasa, Kuba Czekaj and Dorota Kedzierzawska were among 20 projects presented to sales agents, distributors and festival programmers at the sixth edition of the Polish Days (8-10 August) during this week’s New Horizons International Film Festival in Wroclaw.
Komasa - who made his feature debut with Suicide Room - and his producer Leszek Bodzak of Aurum Film (The Last Family) pitched the contemporary social drama Corpus Christi which is based on screenwriter Mateusz Pacewicz’s first screenplay for cinema.
The €1m project is being structured as a Polish-French co-production and will begin principal photography in spring 2018.

Ida producer Opus Film and distributors Against Gravity and Next Film were among the winners at the 8th Polish Film Institute Awards.
The awards were presented at a gala ceremony last night during the Gdynia Film Festival (Sept 14-29).
Lodz-based Opus Film and the Acme PR agency won the prize for ¨International Promotion of Polish Cinema¨ for its Oscar campaign for Pawel Pawlikowski’s Ida, which won Best Foreign-Language Film at the Academy Awards.

Panorama Europe Film Festival has announced 16 films to be showcased from May 29-June 14 in New York.
The festival, which will take place at the Museum Of The Moving Image and the Bohemian National Hall, champions European filmmaking.
Opening weekend will include two screenings. Polish film Gods by Lukasz Palkowski chronicles the life of the Polish surgeon who performed his country’s first heart transplant.
Iris Elezi’s Albanian feature Bota (The World) explores the troubling time in the country’s Communist past.

New Films by Przemyslaw Wojcieszek, Marcin Krzysztalowicz, Jolanta Dylewska and Andrzej Wajda, will be presented to the foreign professionals during the key industry event of the 14th T-Mobile New Horizons International Film Festival. The organizers expect around 150 guests to attend.
Polish Days is the most important industry event at the 14.T-Mobile New Horizons International Film Festival (24 July – 3 August 2014), where industry representatives including programmers, sales agents, producers, film funds and distributors from all over the world watch the latest Polish films at closed screenings.
This year’s edition of Polish Days will take place on July 30 – August 1. Six completed Polish films and ten works-in-progress will be shown at closed screenings, while eleven projects will be pitched to the international audience.
Among the finished films, the representatives of the international film industry will have the chance to see "15 Corners of the World" by Zuzanna Solakiewicz, which will have its world premiere in the Films on Art International Competition at the T-Mobile New Horizons Iff and then international premiere in the Settimana della Critica section of the Locarno Ff in August. Other films shown in full at the closed screenings during Polish Days include "Gods" by Lukasz Palkowski, "Call me Marianna" by Karolina Bielawska, "Performer" by Lukasz Ronduda and Maciej Sobieszczański and two films that will compete in the Main Competition of the T-Mobile International Film Festival - "How to Disappear Completely" by Przemyslaw Wojcieszek and "Calling" by Marcin Dudziak.
