Producers Ant Timpson, Tim League, and the Wagner/Cuban Company's Magnet Releasing announced today the production of ABCs of Death 2, a high energy sequel to the 2012 anthology hit that delivers 26 new dark tales from the industry's most celebrated genre directors. Taking all that was great from the first installment, ABCs of Death 2 aims to be a wilder, leaner, faster paced and even more entertaining anthology this time around, with a new crop of award-winning, visionary filmmakers from around the globe.
In a significant departure from the first installment, ABCs of Death 2 is expanding beyond horror directors. The sequel's new roster includes Goya Award winner Álex de la Iglesia (The Last Circus, Oxford Murders); Room 237 mastermind Rodney Ascher; Academy Award-nominated animator Bill Plympton; Filipino icon - and Director's Fortnight inductee - Erik Matti (Exodus: Tales from the Enchanted Kingdom); and the founder of Nigerian "Nollywood" cinema Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen.

Paramount Pictures and MGM have confirmed that a sequel to Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters is in the works. The news comes on the same day that director Tommy Wirkola's fairy tale action-thriller crossed the $200 million plateau at the worldwide box office, a milestone which was integral in both studios deciding to make a sequel.
Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton star as the title characters, 15 years after their nasty experience at the gingerbread house. While the two stars will most likely be back for seconds, their involvement has not been confirmed. It isn't known if writer-director Tommy Wirkola will be back at the helm. While the first movie made just $54 million at the domestic box office since opening in January, it has earned well over $150 million internationally for a current global tally of $205.8 million.
Beau Flynn is expected to return as producer, along with Gary Sanchez Productions principals Will Ferrell, »

F is for Fart: Noboru Iguchi Talks The ABCs of Death, on VOD now and in theaters this March
Twenty-six directors. Twenty-six ways to die. The ABCs of Death is perhaps the most ambitious anthology film ever conceived with productions spanning fifteen countries and featuring segments directed by over two dozen of the world's leading talents in contemporary genre film. Inspired by children's educational books, the motion picture is comprised of twenty-six individual chapters, each helmed by a different director assigned a letter of the alphabet. The directors were then given free reign in choosing a word to create a story involving death.
26 different sites spoke to the 26 The ABCs of Death filmmakers (check it out: clickHere), and all the interviews are posting today. We were fortunate enough to get one of our favorite contemporary horror directors, Japan's very own Noboru Iguchi! If you've seen some of his mind-blowing gore-blast horror comedies, »

Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters box office: No. 1 on North American chart? Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters 3D, starring Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton as tightly clad, glamorously sexy machine-gun-toting witch hunters, is expected to open at the North American box office with a passable $7m-$8m at 3,372 theaters on Friday, including $500,000 earned at Thursday late evening / midnight screenings. If those early, rough Friday estimates are on target, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters should end up in the high teens by Sunday evening. (Photo: Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters Jeremy Renner glamorously aims to kill.) Although Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters could not be considered a downright bomb, in case those early box-office estimates are indeed accurate they would hardly indicate a great opening for a movie that reportedly cost $50m, not including marketing and distribution expenses. And that has the advantage of 3D ticket surcharges at about 2,900 venues. At Box Office Mojo, for instance, »

Actor Derek Mears discusses his role in Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, in theaters January 25
Those who have met Derek Mears in person, as I have both on and off the set, know him to be an incredibly exuberant, energetic, and downright funny man who spends many weekends performing with improv groups in L.A. Those who have only seen his work on the screen may not even know what he looks like after his masked turns as Jason Voorhees in the Friday the 13th remake and the "Classic Predator" in Predators.
This year, the former stuntman-turned-actor will be "unmasked," slightly, with prosthetic-enhanced roles in Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, opening in theaters January 25, and Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, debuting August 16. Fans will get to see him fully unmasked in Hatchet III, where he squares off with another Jason Voorhes alum, Kane Hodder. I recently had the privilege of »
