On The Download: The Black Keys

25 May 2010 10:14 AM, PDT | Access Hollywood | See recent Access Hollywood news »

I've been a fan of Akron, Ohio duo The Black Keys for many years now. I've watched them progress on every album while maintaining their core blues-influenced no frills rock sound. They've gotten more experimental and adventurous over the years, adding keyboards, or taking such risks as teaming with producer Danger Mouse on their last album, "Attack and Release." Their end result always ends up sounding true to their original vision.

Their latest album "Brothers" is no different and may just be the group's finest work to date. Singer/Guitarist Dan Auerbach sounds the best he ever has, singing all ...

The Black Keys' Video For "Tighten Up": Schoolyard Drama

19 May 2010 11:30 AM, PDT | BuzzSugar | See recent BuzzSugar news »

If you can't get enough of those talking E*Trade babies, then I've got a special Wednesday morning treat for ya. Just yesterday I was gushing over The Black Keys' new album, Brothers, but the first video from the album makes me love the duo even more. In the video for "Tighten Up," the guys let a pair of adorable little boys lip-sync their hearts out for some playground lovin'. It's a refreshingly adorable change of pace from most of the videos we see these days, and seeing those sweet faces paired with Dan Auerbach's voice is almost too good. Check it out when you read more. »

What to Download: New Music This Week

18 May 2010 4:45 PM, PDT | BuzzSugar | See recent BuzzSugar news »

Now that we have the week's DVD releases covered, it's time to get your fill of good music with the new albums hitting shelves. Treat your ears to these three. Saddle up: Good news for Band of Horses fans who loved their previous two albums: their latest, Infinite Arms, contains more of their signature swooning rock. There's nothing insanely different here, but it's still comforting and gorgeous, particularly the single "Factory." Lead singer Ben Bridwell's mournful voice sparkles on the track "Compliments," while the album winds down with rainy day songs like "Neighbor" and "For Annabelle." Blues brothers: The rocker duo that is The Black Keys gives us 15 more tunes on their new album Brothers. It's a solid blend that includes a few slow ballads, a little jamming, and plenty of toe-tappers. The guys have a badass way of singing about heartbreak, never losing that swagger. A solid effort from start to finish, »

The Black Keys' drummer jokes about being on 'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse' soundtrack

18 May 2010 10:53 AM, PDT | Twilight Examiner | See recent Twilight Examiner news »

The Black Keys are one of the lucky few chosen to be a part of the soundtrack album for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse - an accomplishment that many, many bands would love to speak of, to be sure.

Coming off of the announcement that the band would be contributing the title "Chop and Change" to the soundtrack, the band's drummer and producer Pat Carney spoke up to Esquire about his participation in the Twilight series.

In the interview, Carney joked about the occasion, saying "We're thi »

Music: Review: The Black Keys: Brothers

17 May 2010 10:00 PM, PDT | avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news »

The Black Keys’ sixth album, Brothers, gets off to such a weird start that it’s remarkable the record rallies as strongly as it does. The grubby disco beat and trembling falsetto of opener “Everlasting Light” is so off-model that it almost seems designed to scare longtime fans away, and the song that follows, “Next Girl,” runs the duo’s riff-heavy rock through so many filters that it loses almost all of its visceral impact. But those kinds of swings and misses are all part of The Black Keys’ evolution. Over the past few years, guitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer »

The Rolling Stones' 'Exile on Main Street' leads May 18 release slate

The biggest release of May 18 is nearly 40 years old: The reissue of The Rolling Stones classic, “Exile on Main Street,” complete with 10 bonus tracks, has the music world atwitter. The Stones’ masterpiece is just one of several noteworthy reissues coming out including The Jayhawks’ self-titled 1986 debut, which makes its bow on CD, as well as Duran Duran’s eponymous first set and 1983’s “Seven and the Ragged Tiger.” Tops among the new releases are “Brothers” from The Black Keys, LCD Soundsystem’s third and perhaps last CD and another “Glee” set to make Gleeks smile. New Breaking Dawn Deal Details, Eclipse Clip

13 May 2010 4:42 PM, PDT | newsinfilm.com | See recent newsinfilm news »

Earlier this week we wrote about the continuing, behind-the-scenes saga to turn The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn into two separate films.  In order for Summit Entertainment to milk the cash cow one more time they need to renegotiation the contracts of all the cast members who only agreed to four films.

Their plan hit a snag when “the Cullen kids” — Ashley Greene (Alice), Kellan Lutz (Emmett), Nikki Reed (Rosalie Hale), and Jackson Rathbone (Jasper Hale) — held up the fifth movie by banding together and asking for considerably more cash at the negotiating table.

Entertainment Weekly is now reporting the foursome wanted $4 million a piece for each of the two remaining movies, though the figure remains unconfirmed by the studio.  I’m not entirely sure if that’s accurate since the deal is only for the final (fifth) movie.

While Reed (and possibly Rathbone) eventually settled for between $750,000 and $1 million, Greene »

First Clip, New Images and Complete Soundtrack Listing for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse – Updated

13 May 2010 10:53 AM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

In the past 24 hours, Summit has released the first clip, new images, and the complete soundtrack listing for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.  Also, later today, Oprah is doing an entire episode on Twilight, so the release of all this new promotional material has clearly been timed.

The good news for Twilight fans is the buzz on Eclipse is quite high, with a source telling me it’s the best film in the series so far.  But with the movie featuring a number of action sequences, it would make sense that people would like the third chapter the best.  Still no word on whether or not Breaking Dawn will be two movies, but I’m pretty sure any day we’ll hear that it is.  After all, the fans want it.  The studio wants it.  All that has to be worked out is what kind of money they have to pay the actors. »

The Eclipse Soundtrack - Revealed!

12 May 2010 3:04 PM, PDT | BuzzSugar | See recent BuzzSugar news »

With Eclipse hitting theaters in just a little over a month, fans have been anxiously anticipating the soundtrack to accompany the third film in the Twilight saga. We won't get a chance to hear the tunes until June 8, but today the full track listing has been released! I'm a fan of the New Moon soundtrack, and its follow-up sounds equally promising. Muse is back for another go, but the rest of the list are newbies to Twilight. I'm particularly excited to see Sia's name in the midst of rockers like The Black Keys, Beck, and The Dead Weather and also stoked to see a contribution from Florence and the Machine. The biggest head-scratcher here might be Vampire Weekend; aside from the obvious tongue-in-cheek similarities, the band's music seems a bit too uptempo for the dark subject matter. That said, I'm looking forward to hearing what they came up with. Check »
