- In 2003 Jason directed his first feature after being asked to collaborate with Sir Simon Marsden on a documentary called The Twilight Hour which featured Sir John Hurt as the narrator. The was acquired by the Discovery Network and was distributed to 100 countries in 2004. Jason's next feature was Uri's Haunted Cities: Venice starring Uri Geller. Maverick in London followed in 2005. This film, featuring Alan Rickman, Joanna Lumley and Richard E. Grant, among others, was a look at the history of the celebrated King's Head Theatre in Islington. The film was aired on Sky Arts One and was also distributed on DVD through the National Theatre in 2005.
Jason was then invited to join the Screen Director's Guild of Ireland in 2006 and later joined a BBC Director Training Programme for Drama in 2008 where he shadowed Game of Thrones director Ciaran Donnelly on the TV drama, George Gently, starring Martin Shaw. He was then selected in 2009 for a feature film director training Masterclass with the director Mike Leigh and in 2010 was invited to teach acting for camera techniques at the Irish Film Academy.
In 2018 Jason was approached by John West, a writer and broadcaster, about being interviewed for a magazine on the making of his latest documentary, Simon Marsden: A Life in Pictures. This led to John being invited to promote the documentary and arrange its premiere at the BFI in London. This then led to a film partnership, Figgis-West. Their first joint production was The Ghost of Winifred Meeks.
Figgis-West co-produced the official videos for Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee in 2022. Jason Figgis directed and edited both videos. Other feature documentary work on the slate include A Man For All Reasons which looks at the life and work of former Boston Mayor Ray Flynn, the Manchester County Council sponsored feature documentary Shirley Baker: Life Through A Lens which looks at the life of the celebrated Mancunian street photographer, Die Strong which looks at Fallacy of Barriers founder Lily Brasch and Father of Dracula which looks at the life and work of Dracula author, Bram Stoker. Figgis started his career in TV and film in animation for Murakami-Wolf on the celebrated cult TV series Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
