Netflix Sets Series of 15-Minute Stand-Up Specials

Netflix is continuing to expand its comedy footprint.

The streaming giant will release a series of 15-minute-long stand-up specials this year featuring 16 up-and-coming comedians. The series will be taped in front of a live audience in February at Atlanta's Terminal West venue, and will include solo sets from Aisling Bea, Michelle Buteau, Tim Dillon, Jr De Guzman, Sabrina Jalees, Janelle James, Sam Jay, Josh Johnson, Ian Karmel, Jak Knight, Matteo Lane, Max Silvestri, Taylor Tomlinson, Phil Wang, Emma Willmann and Kate Willett.

Variety has chosen its 10 Comics to Watch for 2017.

The honorees will be recognized in the July 19 issue of Variety and at the Just for Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal at a cocktail party on July 27, followed by a panel and showcase on July 28.

The comics are chosen by a group of Variety editors, reporters, and critics after extensive discussions with the comedy community, including those that scout, book, represent, produce, and cast comics on a daily basis.

The list began in 2000 with such now-recognizable names as Louis C.K., Zach Galifianakis, and Patton Oswalt. Along the years, other honorees have included Amy Schumer, Kumail Nanjiani, and Rebel Wilson.

Wolfe Releasing acquires 'Serial Monogamist'
The distributor has acquired all Us rights to Canadian Lgbt rom-com Portrait Of A Serial Monogamist ahead of its world premiere at Inside Out Lbgt Film Festival in Toronto.

Wolfe Release plans a late 2015 or early 2016 release for the story about a fortysomething TV producer who breaks up with her long-term girlfriend to pursue a younger woman.

John Mitchell and Christina Zeidler directed Portrait Of A Serial Monogamist for Industry Pictures Inc and Chosen Waters Productions.

Mehernaz Lentin and Zeidler produced and Diane Flacks, Carolyn Taylor, Sabrina Jalees, Caroline Gillis, Shoshana Sperling, Dawn Whitwell and Vanessa Dunn star. The premiere is set for the festival’s closing night gala screening on May 31.

Portrait Of A Serial Monogamist is funded by an Indiegogo campaign and private investors and was made with the support of the Canadian Film Tax Credit and the Ontario Film and Television Tax Credit.

Lbgt Rom-Com ‘Portrait of a Serial Monogamist’ Acquired by Wolfe
Wolfe Releasing has acquired U.S. rights for Lbgt romantic comedy “Portrait of a Serial Monogamist,” ahead of its world premiere at the Inside Out Lbgt Film Festival in Toronto.

Wolfe plans to release “Portrait” for theatrical, DVD, VOD and digital platforms in late 2015 or early 2016. The story follows a fortysomething television producer after she breaks up with her long-term girlfriend to pursue a younger woman, and realizes she may have made a mistake.

Written and directed by John Mitchell and Christina Zeidler, the film is set in Toronto’s Queen West Lbgt community. Diane Flacks, Carolyn Taylor, Sabrina Jalees, Caroline Gillis, Shoshana Sperling, Dawn Whitwell and Vanessa Dunn star.

Portrait of a Serial Monogamist” will have a world premiere on May 31 at the closing night gala of the Inside Out Lbgt Film Festival in Toronto, and then screen at the Frameline International Lgbtq Film Festival in June.
