Jonas Gutierrez has claimed that Newcastle United saw him as a “liability rather than an asset” at his employment tribunal in Birmingham.
The Argentinian is suing the North East club for a fee of around £2m for disability discrimination, having been diagnosed with testicular cancer in October 2013.
Gutierrez was released by Newcastle at the end of last season, with his last game being the relegation decider against West Ham United, where the cancer survivor’s goal helped the Magpies stay in the Premier League.
The winger underwent surgery in October 2013 to remove the tumour. In a witness statement presented to the tribunal, Gutierrez said that he was called into the then manager Alan Pardew’s office in December, where he was told that he did not feature in Newcastle’s future plans. He was then sent on loan to Norwich City for the second half of the season.

On Saturday February 27th, Alan Pardew took his horribly out-of-sorts Palace side north to the Hawthorns to face former Palace manager Tony Pulis’ West Brom in front of Sky’s cameras for the evening kick-off.
Palace would be hoping to capitalise on their shock 1-0 Fa Cup win over Spurs the previous Sunday and cement a turn-around in their fortunes. Before this game they had gone nine games without a win in the league and were yet to score two goals in a game (in the league) in 2016.
West Brom’s form has been up and down all season and this was punctuated by their previous two results. An impressive 1-0 win away at Everton in the league was followed by a disappointing 3-1 defeat at the hands of Championship side Reading in the Fa Cup that culminated in one of their own fans throwing a...

On Saturday February 21st, Alan Pardew took his horribly out-of-sorts Palace side across London to face Mauricio Pochettino’s in-form, title contenders for their Fa Cup fifth round clash. The winner would claim their place in the quarter final draw.
Despite Palace’s woes in the league this year, their performances in the Fa Cup had been pretty good and they would be looking to extend their run of Premier League scalps by claiming Spurs’. Palace had beaten Southampton and Stoke in the previous two rounds.
Spurs have been in scintillating form this year and their winning run had extended to seven games before they were held to a 1-1 draw against Fiorentina. Spurs’ previous two ties in the competition were against Leicester and Colchester.

West Ham United may have spent the first six months of the 2015-16 Premier League campaign in the top half of the table, but experiencing such lofty heights has been a rare occurrence in previous years.
Since 1993, the East London outfit have only finished in eighth position or above on three occasions, something which was last achieved during 2001-2002 when the likes of Michael Carrick, Joe Cole and Jermain Defoe plied their trade for the Hammers.
Despite twice being relegated to the second tier of English football since that year, West Ham have always been considered an attractive option for players looking to impress in the Premier League, but like with many clubs, they find themselves in the position of acting as a stepping stone for players who believe their future lies elsewhere.
In some cases, that has been inevitable. When Alan Pardew pulled off one...

Even in silly season, the decision to consider Jose Enrique as an apparently legitimate short term option to bolster Newcastle’s defensive options was a particularly strange one. The player has had a disastrous time recently with Liverpool and he looks a shadow of the player who stood out in Newcastle’s first season back in the Premier League under Chris Hughton and Alan Pardew.
Ultimately, it turns out he’s not going to sign – apparently thanks to the Magpies’ reluctance to give him a long enough deal – and is now going to wait for his contract to run down. Beggars can be choosers, it seems.
But why were Newcastle even considering the deal? He’s not the same player as he once was and if Newcastle are looking for a longer term option for left-back, signing him would be a bad idea for all parties.

On Saturday January 23rd, Champions League chasing Spurs travelled across London to Selhurst Park to face out-of-form Crystal Palace in a game that could see Spurs consolidate their place in the top four with a win. Spurs’ form had been good over the last few weeks and, after dismantling Sunderland in their last game, they would be looking to extend their fine run.
Palace would be looking to end a miserable run of five games without a goal and three consecutive losses. Palace’s loss against Manchester City was widely regarded as a slight improvement after their disastrous loss against Aston Villa, but their dreadful run had shown no signs of ending.
The previous meeting between the sides at White Hart Lane in September ended in a 1-0 win for Spurs after Son Heung-min’s low shot evaded Palace ‘keeper Alex McCarthy. The corresponding fixture last...

Newcastle United started at 100mphs on Saturday afternoon, shell-shocking their high-flying opponents West Ham with a blistering 20 minutes that resulted in the game’s winning goals, but probably should have sparked a flurry for more.
At one point the afternoon looked like it might rival the huge 5-0 victory that then Alan Pardew’s side inflicted on The Hammers in the 2010/11 season and certainly if Aleksander Mitrovic had his shooting boots on, he could have taken the match ball home with a hat-trick like Leon Best that night, but in the end United had to settle with a 2-1 and a strongly disciplined display as the tension heightened towards the end.
It was Newcastle’s first victory in 7 games and moved them, at least temporarily with Swansea not playing until Monday night, out of the bottom 3 with hope and optimism that they can start picking up...

The first week of January is over. You’ve taken down the Christmas decorations and you’ve eaten that last bit of stilton that was stinking out your fridge. There’s only two questions on everyone’s minds at this time of year – how can I shift that Christmas bulge and who on earth is that player we’ve been linked with?
January is a notoriously difficult transfer window to predict due to the fact that selling clubs are unwilling to sell small and buying clubs are unwilling to buy big. All this leads to a feast of rumours and supposition that wouldn’t be acceptable in any other journalistic form – unless discussing Jeremy Corbyn’s shadow cabinet reshuffle of course.

Crystal Palace look to have gained a jump-start on their rivals for Charlie Austin’s signature, with The Sun reporting that the Eagles are set to make a £7.5 million bid for the Qpr striker.
Alan Pardew’s team have been one of the surprise packages in the Premier League this season, playing some impressive football and currently finding themselves sitting 7th in the league table. However, goals have been an issue for them of late, with three consecutive games without scoring and Patrick Bamford’s loan-spell being cut short.
The rest of the strikers, including summer signing Connor Wickham, have all failed to impress, so it shouldn’t be any surprise that Palace are looking to bolster their strikeforce and continue their push for a European spot.

When Alan Pardew took charge of his first game at the beginning of last year, not many would have foreseen that the club would go on a run that would leave them the seventh best team in 2015 as we move into the new year and the reopening of the transfer window.
Despite the miraculous turnaround that Pardew has overseen, the squad still looks desperately short in a few areas on the pitch and the club will want to avoid a slide down to mid-table mediocrity. The squad has been ravaged by injuries of late to the likes of Yannick Bolasie, Connor Wickham and Bakary Sako, so there’s little doubt the cheque book will need to come out: the question is just over who to bring in and in which positions. The main issue to address is in attack but the club is also short of a defender or two,...

With talk in the media this weekend being about how decisions Newcastle United will make in the January transfer window ultimately being the key in deciding whether The Magpies stay up and avoid relegation this season… is an actual bigger decision for owner Mike Ashley than what players he should sign, being overshadowed?
Is in fact his biggest decision being whether Steve McClaren is the right man to steer his club to safety?
Ashley was unusually loyal to McClaren’s predecessor Alan Pardew. No matter how bad results got, no matter how loud the fan backlash was, no matter how close United looked on verge of oblivion with another relegation – he stood by his manager until that man eventually jumped ship for pastures new. Previous to that, Ashley wouldn’t hesitate to pull the trigger if things weren’t going well… Sam Allardyce famously lasting less...

When Newcastle United fans sing Auld Lang Syne on the stroke of midnight Thursday, they may well reflect back on 2015 as being one of the worst years in the modern history of Newcastle United.
Two utterly clueless teams fielded under respective head coaches John Carver and Steve McClaren (both of whom had different philosophies on how their teams should play that were both remarkably as inept as each other… but hey remember, they are world class and experienced coaches) have seen Newcastle end the 2014/15 season surviving relegation by the skin of their teeth and that same outcome for the 2015/16 season looking like the absolute best the club can hope for.

On Saturday, Mark Hughes’ entertaining Stoke side welcomed Alan Pardew’s Crystal Palace to The Britannia Stadium in a game the would have seen the Potters draw level with the Eagles on twenty six points and possibly even leapfrog above them with a convincing win.
Palace travelled up the M40 in good form having won two and drawn one of their last three games. They could also boast the third best away record in the division; sitting just behind the Premier League’s pace setters Leicester and Arsenal. Stoke were also in pretty good knick after beating Manchester City 2-0 in their last home game and had been gradually building a head of steam after a slow start to the season.

This Saturday Mark Hughes’ exciting Stoke side welcome a Crystal Palace side high in confidence and flying high in the league. While Stoke sit five places below Palace, there’s only three points between the sides so a win for Stoke could see them go as high as sixth if they win convincingly and results go their way.
Most will see this clash as a attack vs attack but does that paint the whole picture? Both sides have exceptional defensive records this season and have actually struggled to put the ball in the net, despite the great attacking options available. While that may be a cause for concern for most, both sides could equally be said to be still finding their feet without needing to look over their shoulders at the relegation battle below them

On Saturday, Alan Pardew’s Crystal Palace welcomed Ronald Koeman’s Southampton side to Selhurst Park in a game that would have seen the twelfth placed Saints leapfrog sixth placed Palace with a win. Only two points separated the teams so there would be plenty to play for. Southampton had generally enjoyed their trips to Selhurst, having returned victorious on their previous three visits to SE25, while Palace would be looking to gain their first ever Premier League win over Southampton at the eighth attempt.
Could Palace, rejuvenated after their impressive performances in their 1-1 draw against Everton and 5-1 demolition of Newcastle, claim the win? Or would Southampton be able to turn their fortunes around after four successive games without a win – a run that included the 6-1 drubbing at the hands of Liverpool in the League Cup?

Newcastle United won a game of football. Steve McClaren saved his job for another week.
That’s all that matters.
Georginio Wijnaldum’s cross-cum-shot that deflected off Martin Skrtel and into the roof of the Liverpool net, and sumptuous chip with what as almost the last kick of the game, was the difference on an ugly afternoon at St James’ Park.
With just two wins in the Barclays Premier League so far this season, Steve McClaren was desperate for a victory against Liverpool to silence the boo boys at St James’ Park.
Last weekend’s 5-1 humiliation away at former manager Alan Pardew’s Crystal Palace meant Magpies headed into the game second bottom of the league. Bournemouth’s shock win away at reigning Champions Chelsea last night meant this encounter had more than a whiff of must win – or perhaps must not lose – about it.

Football wouldn’t be the same without poor refereeing. What would we moan about after the game or scream about during it?
Imagine a match where the officials get everything correct and you trot home afterwards with three points in your rucksack and a beaming smile across your face. Actually, that sounds brilliant doesn’t it? Although, if you’re a Newcastle United fan it’s probably a feeling that you have rarely felt?
The people of Tyneside enjoy a good rant about an incompetent official almost as much as seeing the ball hit the back of the net and luckily for them there has been a number of disgraceful decisions to analyse throughout the Magpies’ Premier League history.
There is nothing more gut wrenching than a wrongly disallowed goal that would have put your side in front against Manchester United or a player being...

It’s not often that I write a list where it’s harder to condense ideas rather than devise them but creating a feature involving unsuccessful players at Newcastle United is as simple as getting Brendan Rodgers to talk about himself.
The sorting process is relatively simple. You just have to ask three questions. Did the player play during Kevin Keegan’s 1995-96 or Bobby Robson’s 2001-04? Is the player Alan Shearer? Were they part of Alan Pardew’s remarkable fifth place finish in 2011-12? Right, now if the answer is no for each then they were probably a Tyneside failure.
Obviously there are a few exceptions (Antoine Sibierski for starters): a handful of players have escaped the shame of being placed on this list as my warm heart believes they were either poorly managed or not really expected to be any good in the first place.

Since Mike Ashley bought Sir John Hall’s 41.6% stake in Newcastle United back in 2007, the club has become a grim prospect for any Football Manager enthusiast to start their virtual life at. We all enjoy an FM challenge but every year Newcastle have a squad full of bang average players, no money and unrealistic expectations, making the gaming experience at St James’ Park extremely unpleasant.
This year’s game has the potential to be different. There is a renewed philosophy on Tyneside and no longer will you be set the awkward task of taking on a sombre Alan Pardew side or a perplexed John Carver outfit. Trying to restore and motivate Newcastle United over the past four year’s (and probably a lot longer) has been like asking a London Marathon finisher if he fancies going for a jog eight minutes after finishing the 26.2 miles.

After a featherweight performance against West Ham United, Steve McClaren’s Newcastle side were in need of a tactical reshuffle. Mid-week, the former Derby boss had admitted that he was still unsure of his best eleven and hinted that Vurnon Anita could lose his place as Watford visited St James’ Park.
His subtle remarks proved accurate and the Dutch international was replaced by Ayoze Perez with Georginio Wijnaldum being deployed alongside Jack Colback in the middle of midfield. Or so we thought. As the Magpies kicked off, it became apparent that McClaren was experimenting with a needlessly complicated 4-1-4-1 formation that saw Wijnaldum and Sissoko rotate (very unsuccessfully) the anchorman role; something that as far as I’m aware has never happened in the history of football.
The system looked ugly, undisciplined and desperate and Newcastle were 2-0 down at half time. Like...

Since Alan Pardew’s arrival on the 2nd January 2015, Crystal Palace have gone from relegation candidates to European contenders and their impressive brand of football so far this season has been a joy to watch.
The Eagles have taken 40 points from a possible 66 since Pardew told over at the club, a total that is just five fewer than Manchester City who are favourites to win the Premier League and who spent eight times more money than them during the summer transfer window. Palace are now expected to challenge for a spot in the Europa League next season and with new signings, Yohan Cabaye, Bakary Sako and Connor Wickham already looking comfortable, Pardew’s side are certainly one to watch this season.
Palace are going to be an exciting prospect on FIFA 16 and I would expect their players’ ratings to have significantly improved as the new game draws close.

There aren’t many things worse than the sudden transfer of your favourite player to another club. Before you know it, they’re wearing a different kit and smiling as they hold aloft their new team’s scarf and pose for photos. Apparently they don’t care about Newcastle United, St James’ Park or Eldon Square Shopping Centre as much as you had originally given them credit for and now you’re being forced to somehow move on.
It’s brutal. Football fans are a loyal, nostalgic bunch and outside of their families, partners and pets the only thing that gets their loins burning is the sight of their favourite footballer bounding across 100 yards of green turf. And if that is suddenly taken away from them (which can happen at any moment during the summer or during the month of January), then things will get kicked,...

Tottenham Hotspur reportedly made a £15 million deadline bid for Newcastle’s Ayoze Perez but the striker is focused on improving at the Magpies.
The club swiftly confirmed that any link with Spurs or “anyone else” was “total rubbish” and that Perez will be staying put on Tyneside.
The Spanish forward scored seven Premier goals last season after moving from Tenerife for just £1.5 million. Originally signed for the future, Perez broke into Alan Pardew first team set up and made 37 league appearances for the club.
The 22-year-old is hoping to improve this season and continue to develop at Newcastle and described his time at the club as “like a dream”.
Speaking to the Shields Gazette, the player said:
“It’s harder because I had a good season last year, and I have to keep going and improve and maybe do better if I can.
“That’s what I want to do.

Former Newcastle United boss, Alan Pardew is considering a deadline day swoop for Paul Dummett, according to the Chronicle.
The report claims that Crystal Palace have expressed an interest in the defender but that the club will have to move quickly as the transfer window shuts in six hours and there is yet to be an official bid made.
Pardew, who has won three Premier League games out of four this season with the Eagles, is reportedly a big fan of the player. He managed the Newcastle-born defender during his four year spell at St James’ Park and handed him his senior debut.
The 23-year-old is yet to feature this season after a hamstring problem ruled him out of Newcastle’s first four Premier League games. Dummett was on the bench for the League Cup win against Northampton Town.

Chelsea’s poor start to the 2015/16 Barclay’s Premier League season continued as they were beaten by a deserving Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge. Alan Pardew’s team looked calm and assured on the ball and were incredibly disciplined off it, frustrating a Chelsea side that lacked a killer instinct.
Chelsea played some lovely football at times and their passing in the first half was a sight to behold. They retained possession well and had the better of the opening 45 minutes, with Pedro, Willian and Fabregas all having shots at the Palace goal. Unfortunately, those shots were all either wide, blocked or were aimed straight at goalkeeper Alex McCarthy.
The lack of goalmouth action was clearly getting to Diego Costa, who got into it with Damien Delaney on 21 minutes. A minute-and-a-half later, Willian had a chance when he wasn’t closed down from a short free kick,...

A Newcastle United fan’s philosophy consists of tenacity, passion and ‘kiss the badge’ endeavour, mixed with the heart-warming belief that replicating these traits on the pitch will eventually bring their club some silverware. Throughout the Magpies’ Premier League era there are very few players who ‘put a shift in’ and were not widely regarded as cult heroes or idolised by fans.
Good old-fashioned effort can indeed sometimes be enough; football supporters love nothing more than a central midfielder dashing 20 yards to recover the ball (he’s possibly just lost) with a last-ditch, player-first, ball-second slide tackle. St James’ Park demands that each player who pulls on the black and white striped jersey gives 100% and demonstrably earns every single zero on their pay-check.

Crystal Palace signed Yohan Cabaye for a transfer record fee of £10 million this summer after no big clubs attempted to sign him, according to Espn.
But, the former Newcastle United midfielder admits he is very happy to be back in the Premier League and reunited with Alan Pardew.
The Frenchman who scored on his Palace debut admitted that things did not work out for him at Paris Saint Germain during his 18 months at the club. Cabaye made just six starts in all competitions for Laurent Blanc’s side and scored two goals.
Speaking to Espn, the midfielder admitted that things to not go to plan after leaving the Magpies in January 2014 and despite no Champions League clubs trying to sign him he is now feeling good at Palace.
Cabaye said:
“No one from the big clubs came forward, but it’s not a default choice, far from it.

Crystal Palace are set to win the race for Charlie Austin according to a report in The Mirror.
Eagles boss Alan Pardew is set to beat his former club to the signing of the England man after reportedly becoming “confident” that Queens Park Rangers would lower their £15 million valuation of the player.
The 26-year-old, who has scored four goals in four games this season for Rangers, was once again linked to Newcastle on Sunday after a report in the Mail stated that both United and Bournemouth were still interested in the striker.
This contrasts with reports earlier this month that the Magpies have ended their chase for the 18 Barclays Premier League goal hitman, however, but it is known that Steve McClaren would love to be reunited with a forward he worked closely with at Loftus Road.

Alan Pardew has returned to Newcastle United to conduct an interview dressed as Steve McClaren…
Well, this may not be entirely true, but the current Magpies’ head coach has plucked a line straight from page one of Pardew’s best selling book: ‘How To Conduct Interviews And Annoy People” (Disclaimer! None of the opening two sentences is factually correct!)
McClaren has told The Evening Chronicle that Fabricio Coloccini is better than any centre-back Newcastle United could have signed in this transfer window. That’s the sort of ‘feels like a new signing’ line that the current Crystal Palace manager Pardew was loathed for spouting during his four years on Tyneside, right?

Newcastle United left the Liberty Stadium in Swansea with their tails between their legs last week.
All the promise of the opening Barclays Premier League weekend’s game against Southampton was quickly forgotten as the gutless, hopeless football shown under the tutelage of both Alan Pardew and John Carver came back with a vengeance.
It was a shambolic performance that left the prospect of a trip to Old Trafford to face a Manchester United side – unbeaten with a 100% win record before Saturday’s fixture – as daunting as it could possibly be. Every single man in a Newcastle shirt would need to perform to their optimum seven short days after receiving one hell of a beating at the hands of Garry Monk’s Swans. It was a 90 minutes that would tell us a lot as to how Steve McClaren’s Magpies would fare this season.

Stone, a former England international during his playing days, lambasted the owner for selling United’s best players and not replacing them, he said: “When you’re selling the likes of Demba Ba & Cabaye and you’re not replacing them, the writing is on the wall. There simply isn’t a word severe enough to describe Newcastle United’s performance against Swansea at the Liberty Stadium.
The Magpies weren’t at the races from the off and eventually succumbed to what could possibly be the most comfortable 2-0 defeat in his history of football, thanks to goals from former United targets Bafétimbi Gomis and Andre Ayew. A result that in no way was was affected by the red card handed to full back Daryl Janmaat.
The Dutchman, who had a torrid afternoon against the mightily impressive Jefferson Montero, was sent off for two fouls against the Ecuadorian with the second coming via the way of an idiotic shirt pull when the winger had the beating of him.
The scoreline could and arguably should have been far greater in the Swans’ favour. The home side had no less than 18 shots on goal and...

Newcastle United’s coaches are in the process of implementing a “philosophy” that will see the Magpies “attack”, “score goals” and “rise to the next level” in the Barclays Premier League this season, claims Paul Simpson.
The Magpies assistant head coach insists Steve McClaren and his backroom staff will not look to play “pretty, pretty, tappy-tappy football”, but will instead aim to “get bodies in the box and score goals”.
There has already been an obvious shift in playing style from the Alan Pardew and John Carver days into the McClaren, Simpson and Ian Cathro era – and Simpson insists the changes are still a work in progress.

Newcastle United are “doing things differently” to how they’ve been done at the club in past, Paul Simpson claims.

Newcastle United are set to sell Mike Williamson this summer to Brighton and Hove Albion, according to the Shields Gazette.
Seagulls’ boss Chris Hughton, who signed the 31-year-old during his first season at St James’ Park, is looking to bring in some defensive reinforcements and has put the Newcastle centre back on his shortlist.
Hughton and Williamson enjoyed success together in 2010 as they both achieved promotion to the Premier League.

Noise. Deafening noise. Hair-raising, deafening noise.
That’s exactly what had been missing from St James’ Park over the past 18 months as Newcastle United was dragged away from its traditional roots, careering uncontrollably from one disaster to another and destroying the relationship between the loyal, adoring supporters and their club.
Yet on Sunday a tsunami of noise that had built up gradually over a summer when optimism had slowly dripped back into the hearts and minds of the Toon faithful – courtesy of a slight tidal shift from the Magpies’ hierarchy – crashed down over the famous old stadium and made a welcome return to Tyneside.

Things are still not how they should be at Newcastle United, far from it, but the opening Barclays Premier League match of the season against Southampton seemed to signal very definitively that a sea-change has taken place on Tyneside.
The late-Alan Pardew...

Gabriel Obertan has praised Steve McClaren’s approach to management at Newcastle United and taken a veiled swipe at previous Toon regimes by claiming the Magpies now have a “spirit” to come back from behind that was simply not present before.
Describing the atmosphere around the St James’ Park dressing room as “totally different” to how it was “last season” – when Alan Pardew and then John Carver were in charge respectively – Obertan believes Newcastle showed a belief they can be “proud of” to come back against Southampton, something they struggled to do in 2014-15.
Trailing to a Graziano Pelle header on Sunday, the Magpies came from behind to go 2-1 up before being pegged back by a late Shane Long goal. Obertan admits that Newcastle had “trouble” getting back into games when they conceded last season, but that things have completely changed now.

Steve McClaren’s competitive Newcastle United career has started with a spirited draw against Ronald Koeman’s Southampton.
The Magpies came flying out the blocks against the Saints with a point to prove and pressed, counter-attacked and dominated possession for a good 15 minutes. Their new-season adrenaline rush was squashed by Graziano Pelle’s towering header in which Chancel Mbemba – who jumped to his optimum height – was nowhere near even making a challenge.
But, unlike many of the matches under Alan Pardew and John Carver, the positive passage of play returned to the Magpies after going a goal behind and a chested finish from Papiss Cisse and a bullet-header from Georginio Wijnaldum either side of half-time put the Magpies deservedly in front. From there, Newcastle battled every second ball and a refreshing tenacity swept across St James’ Park as they searched for an opening-day win.

Yohan Cabaye has blasted Mike Ashley’s “mentality” at Newcastle United – claiming it is the owner’s prudence which is preventing the club he “loved” from becoming “one of the best in the country”.
The 29-year-old Frenchman has been reunited with former Magpies boss Alan Pardew at Crystal Palace this summer after a £10 million transfer, with the Magpies reportedly deciding against bringing the midfielder back to Tyneside, a place where he was adored by Toon supporters.
Having left Newcastle to join Paris Saint-Germain in January 2014 in a £19 million deal, Cabaye won trophies but failed to play regular first-team football in the French capital and has now returned to the Barclays Premier League.

Steve McClaren has hinted that he shares former Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew’s views of the Europa League – and also those supposedly held within the corridors of power at St James’ park – believing it “hinders” Barclays Premier League clubs as “the seasons goes on”.
Back in December 2013, Pardew admitted that the Europa League could become a “massive problem” to Premier League sides and that, although he wanted to qualify for the competition with Newcastle, the club should be “wary” of it.
Talking about the fact the Magpies face a Southampton side who have just qualified for the next round of the Europa League on Sunday (1.30pm kick-off), McClaren stated that although European competition does not harm sides on the opening weekend, it will have a negative impact as the campaign progresses.

Alan Pardew has taken another swing at Newcastle United’s transfer policy – claiming that players were brought in for the “club’s purpose” and not to make his “first XI” during his time in the North East.
In a wide-ranging interview with The Telegraph, the now Crystal Palace boss does admit that he knew Newcastle’s “agenda” before taking charge and that he “didn’t have a problem with it” – before saying he wanted a different remit to the one he was given on Tyneside.
Having left the club at the turn of the year to head back to south London, Pardew has started life as manager at Selhurst Park well, and admits he likes having full control over transfers.

The feeling has already started – the one you get in the pit of your stomach. It rises up through you, and almost shakes you with excitement. And that can only mean one thing – the new football season is almost upon us.
Newcastle United kick-off their 2015-16 campaign by hosting Southampton at St James’ Park on Sunday – and then there will be at least another 37 Premier League games and two cup matches, but hopefully more, before the season is finished next May.
Steve McClaren and his coaching staff have arrived on Tyneside and have replaced the Alan Pardew-John Carver regime. Georginio Wijnaldum, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Chancel Mbemba have all been recruited as well, so there seems to be a fresh feel at Newcastle United – particularly after Mike Ashley’s bold promises on the final day of last season.
But is that really the case?...

Newcastle United’s development of young players is almost as bad as John Carver’s ability to criticise himself and, despite the club stating that youth is an important part of their blueprint, it’s time to start showing some results.
The Magpies Under-21 side finished sixth in the Professional Development League (Division 2) last season – behind Arsenal and (with no disrespect intended) the likes of Middlesbrough, Derby County, West Bromwich Albion and Reading. Another failing season highlights the general lack of progression coming through the academy and is consistently piling on the pressure to find players from elsewhere in order to maintain a healthy squad depth.
Haris Vuckic, Gael Bigirimana and Adam Campbell (loaned out five times and now at Notts County) were all sent on loan last season rather than being integrated into the first team. Jak Alnwick won the ‘Wor Jackie Award’ for the...

Newcastle United captain Fabricio Coloccini has ended all speculation about his future by signing a contract extension which commits him to the Magpies until at least 2017.
Despite being constantly linked with Greek side Olympiacos and with a reunion with former boss Alan Pardew at Crystal Palace all summer, Coloccini has signed a one-year extension to his contract, with the option of a second, and retains the captain’s armband.
Pardew and Palace took the bizarre step of releasing an official statement denying any interest in Coloccini on Wednesday, and the very next day the 33-year-old Argentine has signed a new deal at Newcastle, with his previous contract having been set to expire next summer.

Speaking to Nufc.co.uk after signing the deal, the centre-back said:
“I am very happy to have signed a new contract. I have been here for seven years and I love this club.

During their two years in the Premier League, Crystal Palace fans have seen their side evolve: from clueless Sunday League plodders under Ian Holloway to being a tight-knit defensive unit under Tony Pulis and porous relegation certainties under Neil Warnock, all the way to their current incarnation as Alan Pardew’s cut-throat counter attackers: Crystal Palace have been a club in perpetual search of an identity with the fans never completely certain what version of their team will show up – almost on a week-to-week basis.
Uncertainty due to late forays into the transfer market or untimely managerial changes have no doubt contributed to this state of permanent flux, and with manager Alan Pardew bringing Yohan Cabaye and Connor Wickham on board, as well as the loan signing of Patrick Bamford, it’s looking like there will be further evolution still. However, this time the evolution has...

Steve McClaren already has a better relationship with the Newcastle United fans than Alan Pardew ever did.
The new head coach has said all the right things and showed on the pitch that he wants to do things more like ‘the Newcastle way’ after a number of bewildering years for Magpies’ fans.
Pardew, a man that was vilified for his gutless style of play and perceived lies during his four years as United’s boss, was put in a no win situation from the get-go by Mike Ashley as he was ‘hand-picked’ as the man to replace Chris Hughton, who didn’t deserve to be sacked as The Toon’s manager.
A ‘jobs for the boys’ mentality then swept through St James’ Park during the current Crystal Palace boss’ reign, as iron-clad eight-year contracts were handed to a number of staff members who were clearly weren’t fit for purpose,...

Crystal Palace have taken the bizarre measure of releasing an official statement from Alan Pardew denying he is interested in signing Newcastle United captain Fabricio Coloccini.
On Wednesday the south London club posted a “statement from the manager” in which Pardew made it clear he had “no interest” in Coloccini, despite constant media reports linking the defender with a move to Selhurst Park this summer.
Coloccini has also been linked with a transfer to Greek side Olympiacos, and Palace’s statement comes on the day after Toon boss Steve McClaren insisted the Argentine would remain on Tyneside.
