World War Z DVD Review

20 October 2013 11:23 PM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Director: Marc Forster

Starring: Brad Pitt, Mireille Enos, Daniella Kertesz, James Badge Dale.

Running Time: 111 minutes

Extras: Origins, Looking to Science

World War Z, loosely based on the novel of the same name by Max Brooks, sees the world suddenly taken over by a deadly plague. After escaping an acute attack on his native Philadelphia, former Un investigator Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt) must leave his family behind to travel across the globe to find a cure and in true Hollywood blockbuster style, save the day.

The production of World War Z is infamous. Troubled shoots, hurried re-shoots, delayed street date, a budget spiralling into the hundreds of millions of dollars, and a sequel allegedly cancelled during principal photography. If you were to say that the lead up to the release of the film had Hollywood on edge, then you’d be making an massive understatement. But, could a zombie film »

World War Z Storyboards: Scenes From Moscow Ending That You Didn't See In Theaters

14 July 2013 1:17 PM, PDT | ComicBookMovie.com | See recent ComicBookMovie news »

You all should be well aware by now that World War Z went through some major changes after producers were not happy with Marc Forster's cut of the film. The brought in screenwriter Damon Lindelof, who viewed the film, and then made some suggestions that completely changed the third act. The main changes take place when Brad Pitt's character, Gerry Lane, boards a plane in Jerusalem with the injured female Israeli soldier Segen (Daniella Kertesz). In the theatrical version, the plane is rerouted by the United Nations, is attacked by zombies in mid-flight, and crashes in crash land in Wales. Gerry and Segen are the only two survivors and head off to a World Health Organization building nearby. But in Matthew Michael Carnahan’s draft of the script, the plane isn't attacked by zombies or rerouted by the U.N., but instead lands safely in Russia. There, the country is in bad shape, »

Directed by Marc Forster.

Starring Brad Pitt, Mireille Enos, Daniella Kertesz, Fana Mokoena, James Badge Dale, David Morse, Matthew Fox, Abigail Hargrove, Sterling Jerins and Fabrizio Zacharee Guidoas.

Synopsis:

United Nations employee Gerry Lane traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments, and threatening to destroy humanity itself.

It's a movie that has had a troubled and well-documented production. It's a movie that has been hated by fans of the novel from the moment the trailer debuted. It's a movie that really stood no chance of doing well. But do you know what, it's actually a great movie.

Being a huge fan of Max Brook's wonderful novel of the same name, I had fairly low expectations going into World War Z. The trailers made it look like nothing more than your average run-of-the-mill zombie film, the »
