David Fincher Comments on Status of Potential World War Z Sequel

  • DailyDead
Despite Paramount Pictures removing the World War Z sequel (along with the new Friday the 13th movie) from their release schedule early this year, hope for the Brad Pitt project stayed afloat, with filmmaker David Fincher reportedly still interested in taking the directing reins on the follow-up to 2013's World War Z. In a recent interview with Empire, Fincher addressed the status of the World War Z sequel, confirming his interest and giving fans of the first film a glimmer of hope, even though the film is in the early stages of reanimation.

Fincher was recently a guest on Empire's podcast to discuss his new Netflix series Mindhunters, but he also touched on the long-gestating World War Z sequel, saying (via Collider):

“I worked on a show for HBO that didn’t see the light of day and at the same time was doing [Mindhunter], and then did [Mindhunter], and I

World War Z 2 Confirms Director David Fincher

World War Z 2 Confirms Director David Fincher
New Paramount Pictures chairman Jim Gianopulos confirmed in an interview that David Fincher has in fact signed on to direct World War Z 2. We reported in April that the filmmaker had entered talks to direct, following months of rumors about the director's involvement in this long-gestating sequel. Brad Pitt will reprise his role as Gerry Lane from 2013's World War Z, although no other cast members have been confirmed at this time.

During a wide-ranging interview with The Hollywood Reporter, his first since taking over as the head of Paramount Pictures, Jim Gianopulos revealed that, "We're in advanced development," although no further details were given. With David Fincher now confirmed, this marks his first film since 2014's Gone Girl, and also his fourth film with Brad Pitt, following Se7en (1995), Fight Club (1999) and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008). The studio hasn't announced a production schedule or release date, but this project has certainly turned itself around in just a few months.

Back in February, Paramount delayed World War Z 2 indefinitely, yanking the movie from its June 9, 2017 release date and not issuing a new date at this time. We reported in August 2016 that Brad Pitt, who also serves as a producer on the sequel, had been meeting with several directors, but he was "zeroing in" on David Fincher. While the director was reportedly hesitant about taking on the project, he entered talks to direct, and we reported in April that both the studio and director were close to finalizing their deal, which has now been closed. Director J.A. Bayona was at one point attached to direct, but he went on to make A Monster Calls, before eventually dropping the project.

World War Z 2 writer Steven Knight, who came aboard to write the script in 2014, revealed in early 2015 that this sequel "is not quite like the other," while teasing that this follow-up, "starts with a clean slate." The writer would not clarify those comments, and since no story details have been given yet, it remains to be seen how this sequel will wipe the slate clean from the original. The first movie centered around United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt), who traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself. The original movie featured a supporting cast that also included Mireille Enos, Daniella Kertesz, James Badge Dale, Matthew Fox, David Morse, Elyes Gable and Peter Capaldi.

With the project still in "advanced development," it remains unclear if the studio is still working from Steven Knight's script for the World War Z sequel, or if other writers have been brought in for the project. Before taking on this movie, David Fincher had been keeping busy on the small screen, developing Mindhunter for Netflix, where he also directed the first two episodes, along with the season finale. He is also slated to executive produce Sony's The Girl In the Spider's Web, which reboots the Lizbeth Salander story. Hopefully we'll find out more about World War Z 2 soon.

Despite Losing Release Date, World War Z Sequel Still Being Eyed by Director David Fincher

  • DailyDead
Following the revelation that the new Friday the 13th movie has been canceled after Paramount Pictures removed it from their release schedule, some are fearing that the World War Z sequel might suffer a similar fate after vacating its 2017 release slot, but it appears that director David Fincher is still interested in keeping the living dead project alive.

According to THR, David Fincher remains “very creatively interested in directing the movie” after Paramount took the sequel to 2013’s World War Z off of their release schedule, presumably to set it for a later release in 2018 or ’19. World War Z 2 was initially slated to come out on June 9th of this year.

Back in August, it was first reported that Finhcer was in early discussions with the film’s star and producer Brad Pitt to helm the sequel after J.A. Bayona (A Monster Calls) departed the project. Fincher has previously worked with Pitt on Se7en,

AfterDeath Digital Review

Director: Gez Medinger

Cast: Sam Keeley, Miranda Raison, Daniella Kertesz, Elarica Gallacher, Lorna Nickson Brown

Certificate: 15

Running Time: 88 minutes.

Another example of the single location film, AfterDeath manages to make the most of it’s lone setting environment, offering the audience something completely different to what they are used to. AfterDeath has one heck of a hook in it’s log line, ‘five people wake up dead’; the story follows what happens to the group after they have awakened.

Our group of strangers find themselves trapped in a small cottage, just off of the coast, in the middle of nowhere. The only landmark remotely close by is a lighthouse who’s light has an unsettling effect on them. The barrenness of their surroundings means that they have no choice but to work together to find a way out of their present situation.

Of course this being a film the group

Frightfest Presents: ‘AfterDeath’ Review

Stars: Miranda Raison, Sam Keeley, Daniella Kertesz, Elarica Gallacher, Lorna Nickson Brown | Written by Andrew Ellard | Directed by Gez Medinger, Robin Schmidt

The human race is obsessed with what happens when we die, depending on your beliefs there is heaven or hell, an afterlife or even just nothing. AfterDeath raises a few questions of where we go, and raises some thought-provoking issues about the process of moving on… When five people find themselves trapped in an abandoned beach house they soon realise they are dead. With “limbo” slowly closing in on them and a demonic shadow attacking them based on their sins, where are they bound? Heaven or Hell?

AfterDeath doesn’t push religion on you and in a way this may be a weakness. For the most part though, the characters are pretty much clued in on the fact that they are dead and will either be going to heaven or hell.

World War Z DVD Review

Director: Marc Forster

World War Z, loosely based on the novel of the same name by Max Brooks, sees the world suddenly taken over by a deadly plague. After escaping an acute attack on his native Philadelphia, former Un investigator Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt) must leave his family behind to travel across the globe to find a cure and in true Hollywood blockbuster style, save the day.

The production of World War Z is infamous. Troubled shoots, hurried re-shoots, delayed street date, a budget spiralling into the hundreds of millions of dollars, and a sequel allegedly cancelled during principal photography. If you were to say that the lead up to the release of the film had Hollywood on edge, then you’d be making an massive understatement. But, could a zombie film
