Captain America: The Winter Soldier hits $600 million worldwide

6 hours ago | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

The latest entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, has continued Marvel Studios’ fine run of box office form, with the Phase Two sequel having now passed $600 million worldwide.

With $205 million domestically, The Winter Soldier is now just $1 million away from overtaking the North American haul of Thor: The Dark World, while globally the Chris Evans-headlined sequel is fast approaching Iron Man 2 ($623.9 million) and Thor: The Dark World ($644.8 million).

Despite competition from rival superhero flick The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the Captain America sequel should have no problem overtaking Thor: The Dark World, which would make it the third-highest grossing Marvel Studios release behind The Avengers ($1.518 billion) and Iron Man 3 ($1.215 billion).

As it happens, The Winter Soldier also looks set to surpass Warner Bros. Superman reboot Man of Steel ($668 million), which would bode well for the big showdown between the two film’s sequels on May 6th, »

Oscar-Winning '12 Years a Slave' Scribe John Ridley's Jimi Hendrix Biopic to Open Seattle Film Fest

21 April 2014 12:31 PM, PDT | Thompson on Hollywood | See recent Thompson on Hollywood news »

Screenwriter John Ridley won an Oscar this year for "12 Years a Slave," and now his sophomore directorial feature "Jimi: All Is By My Side," will be the opening night film at the 40th annual Seattle International Film Festival on May 15. Ridley wrote and directed this Jimi Hendrix biopic, which stars Andre Benjamin (aka rapper/singer Andre 3000) as Hendrix and Imogen Poots as love interest Linda Keith, who met him in 1966 while dating Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards. The film focuses on their relationship, Hendrix's rise in the London music scene before his death at age 27 in 1970, and the complications that arise when a new admirer (played by Hayley Atwell of "Captain America") enters the scene. "All Is By My Side" blends Ridley's interpretation of the story with archival footage of the era. The film will be released theatrically this summer by XLrator Media with Open Road Films.  Watch a clip below, »

Fan-ticizing: 15 Characters I hope To See In The Agent Carter TV series

20 April 2014 10:10 PM, PDT | ComicBookMovie.com | See recent ComicBookMovie news »

2014's TV pilot season has got me stoked! Never before have we had so many comic adaptations on the small screen at the same time. One of which I am especially optimistic about is ABC's Agent Carter series. As you should know Hayley Atwell will be reprising her role as the lead and that she will be accompanied by Dominic Cooper in the role of Howard Stark, co-founder of S.H.I.E.L.D. In addition the pilot was writen by none other than screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stehen McFeely who are responsible for the recent masterpiece Captain America: Tws.   In anticipation for what is almost guaranteed to be awesome I made a list of 15 characters I would like to see make an appearance on the show. I tried to stay away from the obvious ones like the Howling Commandos so without further ado here it is...   15. Ulysses »

Disney and Marvel Studios are celebrating another huge success for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with the latest Phase Two offering Captain America: The Winter Soldier crossing the $500 million mark at the global box office. The Chris Evans-headlined solo sequel is currently sitting on $502,272,687, which puts it ahead of previous McU releases The Incredible Hulk ($263.4 million), Captain America: The First Avenger ($370.6 million) and Thor ($449.3 million), with Iron Man’s $585.2 million haul fast approaching.

Welcome to Issue #41 of The Marvelous Da7e!

Real quick mission statement: this column is for discussion of superhero movie news and superhero movies. Titular allegiance aside, this sphere includes non-Marvel properties.

This week: X-Men Days of Future past links to Godzilla and Spider-Man. Calling all women to the megafranchise!

Come With Me To Days Of Future Past!

Did anyone else notice that the last trailer for X-Men: Days of Future Past was scored by a remix of Led Zeppelin’s “Kashmir” but at a faster tempo with modern instrumentation, so it instantly called to mind the last modernized-up-tempo “Kashmir.” It was called “Come With Me” and was a track for 1998′s Godzilla.

Check out the video for that, in case you don’t remember.

Ok, then here’s the Days of Future Past “final trailer”

ABC eyeing Agent Carter and 2nd season of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

15 April 2014 1:11 AM, PDT | JoBlo.com | See recent JoBlo news »

It appears Marvel and ABC are moving forward with an Agent Carter television series. Deadline has learned the show hasn't received a green light yet, but will probably go straight to series, and won't have a pilot like most new shows. The site also says Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will more than likely be renewed for a second season, and Agent Carter might air in the fall and spring when S.H.I.E.L.D. goes on hiatus. Hayley Atwell will return for ABC and »

Agent Carter series looking increasingly likely

14 April 2014 11:43 PM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

News Louisa Mellor 15 Apr 2014 - 07:25

ABC is close to ordering the Agent Carter series, according to industry rumours...

If - and it's currently a big if despite the recent uptick in quality - Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. is renewed for a second season, then ABC is very likely to order Agent Carter straight to series, according to Deadline.

The idea would be for Agent Carter, which would see Hayley Atwell reprise her Captain America and Marvel One Shot role as Peggy Carter, to run for thirteen weeks bridging the scheduling gap between the autumn and spring portions of S.H.I.E.L.D.

There's been some suggestion from Captain America screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely that the plan for 40s-set sci-fi action series Agent Carter is to have one main villain and one main case in the first season. If all goes well, Agent Carter could start »

Hayley Atwell's 'Agent Carter' rumored to be heading to ABC series pick-up

14 April 2014 2:35 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Anything that puts Hayley Atwell on my TV once a week is a good thing. It's that time of the year, where we hear all sorts of rumors about what might or might not be happening. This morning, one of the bigger stories concerns another ABC Marvel series, one that would run concurrently with "Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.", which is well on its way to a second season pick-up. While I haven't seen anything specific about the approach they're taking to the proposed series "Agent Carter," it would obviously hinge on Hayley Atwell's character from "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," one of the most interesting female leads they've had in any of the Marvel movies. It sounds like it would essentially serve as a prequel to the series they already have on the air, but is that enough of a change to make this worth the greenlight? If they do this, »

Marvel's Agent Carter May Be Coming to ABC

14 April 2014 2:30 PM, PDT | GeekTyrant | See recent GeekTyrant news »

After struggling to find its way this year, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is finally picking up steam in the wake of Captain America: The Winter Soldier’s universe-exploding twist. It hasn’t been officially renewed for a second season, but it won’t be big news when it is. What is big news is that ABC may be coupling that pickup with a straight to series order of Agent Carter, a new Marvel series about Peggy Carter.

According to Deadline, the project was inspired by the Marvel One Shot that appeared on the Iron-Man 3 Blu-ray. The one shot may be enough to sell ABC execs on the idea, allowing them to forgo the traditional pilot stage. Star Hayley Atwell’s option was recently extended and a script has been in the can for at least three months, but the studio hasn’t made the call yet. The series may »

Agent Carter Close to Getting a Straight-to-Series Order from ABC

14 April 2014 1:33 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

I've mostly written off Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. even though it appears the show has improved post-The Winter Soldier.  The characters—aside from Coulson—have never been that interesting to me.  However, I'm still excited for the prospect of a weekly Marvel TV series, and have high hopes for Agent Carter.  A sci-fi/action series set in the 1940s with a female lead (Hayley Atwell has expressed her interest in reprising the titular role, but it hasn't been officially cast for the TV series) is drastically different than anything else on network television (or even cable for that matter), but ABC seems to have sparked to the idea.  According to Deadline, the network might go straight-to-series since the Marvel One-Shot of the same name functioned as an unconventional pilot. Hit the jump for more on a possible Agent Carter TV series. According to Deadline, Agent Carter could serve as a scheduling »

"Agent Carter" To Fill "S.H.I.E.L.D." Gap

14 April 2014 12:04 PM, PDT | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

With the May up-fronts in a few weeks, crunch time has come for networks to determine the fate of their currently airing TV series for next season.

One series that's still officially undetermined is "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." which premiered to a strong 12.12 million viewers, but has since plummeted to 5.37 million for the most recent episode.

Now, Deadline reports that ABC is looking likely to give it a second season. More interesting though is how they might air it.

The report indicates the network is also considering a pickup for Marvel's "Agent Carter" limited series which would see Hayley Atwell reprising her role as Peggy Carter from the "Captain America" films.

One potential plan would be to split the second season of "S.H.I.E.L.D." into two halves - one for this Fall, one for next spring. Then the shorter run (likely »

While Marvel’s “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” hasn’t exactly blown doors down in the ratings department for ABC, it hasn’t stopped the studio from developing more projects for the small screen. Avengers: Age Of Ultron Spotted Filming Like It's 1940 In New London Set Photos

11 April 2014 2:19 PM, PDT | ComicBookMovie.com | See recent ComicBookMovie news »

Filming for Avengers: Age of Ultron picked up today at the Rivoli Ballroom in London, England, where several extras were seen dressed in 1940s military garb. Observation would suggest there will be a flashback in the 2015 Marvel sequel involving Steve Rogers, which Chris Evans himself hinted at during an interview last month. However, Evans was joined by his Captain America co-star Hayley Atwell (aka Peggy Carter) for the said scene(s), but they weren't alone. A reliable source reports that British actor Paul Bettany, whose longtime Iron Man voice role J.A.R.V.I.S. will become the humanoid Vision in Age of Ultron, was also on set today. So, what exactly could this scene entail involving Steve Rogers, Peggy Carter, the Vision, and a 1940s ballroom setting? While you're thinking that over, check out some photos  taken by Jasmine Bailey and Winne Kataka.     Joss Whedon at a bakery shop, »
