Montreal genre showcase to open with drama King Dave and John Stockwell’s Kickboxer: Vengeance.

Montreal’s Fantasia International Film Festival (July 21-24) will open with a double header of Daniel Grou’s single tracking shot drama King Dave and John Stockwell’s Kickboxer: Vengeance, starring Canadian actor Alain Moussi alongside Jean-Claude Van Damme, Georges St-Pierre and Dave Bautista.

Mike Tyson Joins "Kickboxer" Sequel

Former world champion boxer Mike Tyson has joined the cast of "Kickboxer: Retaliation," the upcoming sequel to the John Stockwell-directed remake "Kickboxer: Vengeance" which hits cinemas and VOD in September.

Alain Moussi, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Dave Bautista, Gina Carano, Georges St-Pierre and Darren Shahlavi star in 'Vengeance' which follows Kurt Sloane (Moussi) who seeks revenge for the death of his brother at the hands of a deadly foe (Bautista) in an underground fighting ring.

In "Kickboxer: Retaliation," Kurt is brought back forcibly to Thailand to fend for his life against a new formidable foe played by Hafpor Julius Bjornsson, best known as The Mountain on "Game of Thrones". Tyson will portray a tough convict forced into a world of fighting behind bars.

Paige VanZant also stars in the sequel which is currently filming in California and Nevada and will head back to Thailand in June for final principal photography. »

Mike Tyson Joins ‘Kickboxer: Retaliation’ (Exclusive)

Former world champion boxer Mike Tyson has joined “Kickboxer: Retaliation,” the sequel to “Kickboxer: Vengeance.”

Kickboxer: Retaliation” is currently filming in California and Nevada and will head back to Thailand in June for final principal photography.

“This is a monumental moment for us,: said producer Robert Hickman of Our House Films. “We have already signed on 14 champions from the sporting world, mostly decorated fighters from the Ufc, being able to add Mike Tyson as a cast member adds a whole new element and excitement to the film.”

Kickboxer: Vengeance” was directed by John Stockwell, and starred Alain Moussi, Jean-Claude Van Damme (who played Kurt Sloane in the original “Kickboxer”), Dave Bautista, Gina Carano, Georges St-Pierre and Darren Shahlavi. Rlj Entertainment bought the rights to “Kickboxer: Vengeance,” a remake of the original 1989 “Kickboxer,” and is planning a release in September in theaters and VOD.

Rlj Entertainment has acquired all U.S. rights to the highly anticipated Kickboxer: Vengeance.  Co-Written by Dimitri Logothetis (Stephen King’s Sleepwalkers) and Jim McGrath and directed by John Stockwell (In the BloodBlue Crush), the film features the return of Jean-Claude Van Damme to the franchise (Bloodsport, Kickboxer) and a bevy of professional athletes including newcomer Alain Moussi (X-Men: Days of Future Past) Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy), Gina Carano (In the Blood), Georges St-Pierre (Captain America), and Cain Velasquez (Term Life).  

The film was produced by Logothetis along with Nicholas Celozzi (The Lost Angel), Ted Field (The Last Samurai, Jumanji), Allen Knudson, Samuel Cory Timpson and Rob Hickman (who also orchestrated the majority of the financing on the film).

Rlje plans to release Kickboxer: Vengeance in theaters and On Demand later this year.  Mark WardRlj Entertainment’s Chief Acquisitions Officer, made the announcement today.

Rlj Entertainment has acquired all U.S. rights to Jean-Claude Van Damme’s “Kickboxer: Vengeance” and will release the sequel in theaters and on demand later this year.

John Stockwell directed from a script by Dimitri Logothetis and Jim McGrath. The cast includes pro athletes Alain Moussi (“X-Men: Days of Future Past”), Dave Bautista (“Guardians of the Galaxy”), Gina Carano, former Ufc welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre (“Captain America”) and Cain Velasquez.

The film was produced by Logothetis along with Nicholas Celozzi, Ted Field, Allen Knudson, Samuel Cory Timpson and Rob Hickman, who also orchestrated the majority of the financing.

Kickboxer: Vengeance” is an update to the 1989 original with Moussi playing a martial artist, Kurt Sloane, who travels to Thailand to avenge his brother’s death at the hands of Bautista’s Tong Po character. Van Damme played the Sloane character in the original 1989 “Kickboxer,” which grossed $14 million on a $1.5 million budget. »

Rlj Entertainment  has acquired all Us rights to Kickboxer: Vengeance, starring Jean-Claude Van Damme in a return to the franchise. John Stockwell directs from a screenplay by Dimitri Logothetis and Jim McGrath.

The cast includes newcomer Alain Moussi, Dave Bautista, Gina Carano, Georges St-Pierre, and Cain Velasquez. Logothetis produced with Nicholas Celozzi, Ted Field, Allen Knudson, Samuel Cory Timpson and Rob Hickman, who arranged the majority of the financing.

Rlj brokered the deal with Logothetis, Field, Brian O-Shea, and Mike Weber on behalf of the film. Kickboxer: Vengeance will open in theatres and on VOD later this year.

Bryce Dallas Howard will receive the CinemaCon Award For Excellence In Acting in Las Vegas on April 14. The official convention of The National Association Of Theatre Owners takes place from April 11-14 at Caesars Palace. Howard’s next film is the August 12 release of Peter’s Dragon »
