Doug Dohring was a prominent Los Angeles-area entrepreneur, occasional
producer, and father of actor
Jason Dohring. His first executive
producer credit was for the
Neopets: The Darkest Faerie (2005).
The highly rated 3D video game brought to life the characters of Neopia
from the popular teen website NeoPets. Dohring also served as executive
producer on _Struck (2008), an award-winning short film about a man who
has to cope with a 3-foot arrow stuck in his chest.
As an entrepreneur Doug Dohring founded the top-100 market research company The Dohring Group in 1986. In the late 1990s he extended his market research online with the website OpinionSurveys.com, which he later sold to Greenfield Online.
In 2000, Dohring acquired the rights to develop the new website NeoPets.com. He incorporated the company and grew the website into one of the top online destinations, with over 140 million registered accounts in just over five years. In 2005 NeoPets was sold to Viacom for $160 million.
Dohring's last business venture was Age of Learning, a leading and innovative edtech company, based in Los Angeles. Dohring and Age of Learning launched ABCmouse.com Early Learning Academy in 2010, ReadingIQ in 2018, and Adventure Academy in 2019. The multi-award-winning digital learning programs have been used by millions of children and in nearly 200,000 classrooms throughout the U.S.
