Amazon Nabs Agatha Christie Mystery Series Slate for U.S.

18 July 2017 6:00 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

A new batch of Agatha Christie whodunits is coming to Amazon, which inked a deal for exclusive U.S. streaming rights to a series of adaptations from the British mystery maven’s estate.

Under the deal brokered by Wme-Img, Agatha Christie Ltd. continues its partnership with U.K. production company Mammoth Screen. In April, Img reached a deal with Agatha Christie Ltd. to handle international sales for the slate of seven new dramas.

The first adaptation under the deal is “Ordeal by Innocence,” based on Christie’s 1958 novel, which began production earlier this month in the U.K.

“We are thrilled to bring to our slate these adaptations from the world’s greatest mystery writer,” said Morgan Wandell, Amazon Studios’ head of international series. “With terrific talent, in front of and behind the camera, they are sure to delight our customers.”

Deadline is reporting that Bill Nighy, Catherine Keener and Matthew Goode have signed on to lead the cast of Ordeal By Innocence, a three-part adaptation of the Agatha Christie novel, which is the first of seven dramas as part of a deal between BBC One and Agatha Christie Productions.

The 1958 book, said to be one of Christie’s personal favourites, “begins with the murder of wealthy philanthropist Rachel Argyll at her family estate, Sunny Point. Despite vehemently protesting his innocence, her adopted son Jack is arrested for the crime. Eighteen months later, Dr Arthur Calgary appears claiming to hold the alibi that can prove Jack’s innocence. Apparently The Next Doctor Who Has Already Been Cast

11 June 2017 4:52 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

It’s no secret that Peter Capaldi’s days as Doctor Who are numbered. There’s 3 episodes left to go before season 10 wraps up and at that point, the titular character will regenerate once again, allowing a new actor to step into the role. To date, the BBC’s remained quiet on who exactly that fresh face will be, with tons of names being rumored for the part but no one confirmed just yet.

Will it be a female for the first time? Another male? Someone unexpected? A longtime fan pick? We really have no idea, but from what we understand, the network’s already made their decision. That’s according to former showrunner Russell T Davies, who spoke to YouTube channel Andy Vision. While he wouldn’t name a name – obviously – he did say that he knows who’s been cast, meaning that an actor has already been selected. »

Doctor Who Series 10 Episode 6 Review – ‘Extremis’

Villordsutch reviews Doctor Who Series 10 Episode 6: Extremis…

Directed by: Daniel Nettheim

Written by: Steven Moffat

Doctor – “Truth at the heart of heresy”

Cardinal Angelo – “…and death at the heart of truth.”

Nardole – “You’d be wizard at writing Christmas crackers you two.”

Answers are given in Extremis.  Why Nardole is shadowing the Doctor, who or what is contained within the Vault and where Bill is living since her shared student digs crumbled into dust.  Also, midway through this episode I was reminded slightly of a certain Rick and Morty episode though sharing the title would reveal too much.

Unfortunately sharing nearly anything about Extremis could in fact reveal far too much to spoil this week’s rather excellent, if not rather morbidly macabre, episode.   In Extremis we find the Doctor – who is still blind –  being called upon the services of the Vatican, with the Pope himself arriving to request help. »

Luke Treadaway and Sacha Dhawan tipped as candidates to replace Peter Capaldi in Doctor Who

13 May 2017 12:32 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

With Peter Capaldi set to call time on his role as the Doctor following the current tenth series of Doctor Who, there’s been a lot of speculation as to who will be the next actor to take on the role of the iconic Time Lord in the long-running BBC sci-fi.

Last month, The Mirror claimed that Death in Paradise’s Kris Marshall had already been cast as the Thirteenth Doctor. However, the Radio Times is now disputing that report, stating that Marshall is no longer a shoe-in for the part, and that Luke Treadaway has caught the eye of the production team thanks to his work in the Sky Atlantic series Fortitude and his role in the feature film A Street Cat Named Bob.

The article also goes on to suggest that Sacha Dhawan – who played director Waris Hussein in the BBC’s Doctor Who dramatisation An Adventure in Space and Time »

Fortitude series 2 review

12 February 2017 3:52 PM, PST | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Michael Noble Feb 13, 2017

For those of you who've already binge-watched the entirety of Sky Atlantic's Fortitude series 2, here's our spoiler-filled review...

This review contains spoilers.

See related  Trespass Against Us trailer, with Michael Fassbender Justin Kurzel interview: Macbeth, Breaking Bad, Snowtown

When Fortitude arrived on our screens in 2015, it did so floating on a sea of publicity. Millions were spent announcing the arrival of Sky’s newest pitch at offering original drama to sit alongside its impressive roster of Us imports. Polar bears appeared at tube stations and posters of its snowbound stars, among them such luminaries as Michael Gambon, Sofie Gråbøl, Christopher Ecclestone and Stanley Tucci, appeared in hoardings both online and in the real world. The campaign caught attention but remained abstract, leaving little clue as to what the show was actually about.

The marketers can be forgiven for this approach, as the show itself seemed uncertain. »

Universal Pictures is developing the dystopian action-thriller “Little America” with Michael Bay, Andrew Form, and Brad Fuller on board to produce through their Platinum Dunes production company.

Universal won a bidding war for a spec script by Rowan Athale (“Wasteland”), who will also direct. Platinum Dunes has teamed with Universal for “The Purge” and “Ouija” franchises.
