Franco Family Takes Up Dancing Over Holidays

25 December 2009 5:26 PM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Scrubs star Dave Franco is spending the holiday season learning to swing dance with his actor brother James Franco.

The 24 year old goes back to his parents' home in Palo Alto, California every year to spend Christmas with his two brothers, and admits his author mum Betsy started off the festive celebrations this Thanksgiving with jazz lessons for the whole family.

He explains, "I went up north (for Thanksgiving) - I'm from Palo Alto originally. At Thanksgiving and Christmas time, it's the only time we're all guaranteed to be home. We have a very strange kind of artsy family so this time of year, we have new traditions all the time. My mum decided this year we should all go swing dancing - just the family. Of course I was the only one without a date, and so I had to dance with the teacher, who was a dude. I got a few moves but I'm a goofy dancer!" »

Scrubs and Better Off Ted: ABC Burning Off Episodes; Cancelled?

21 December 2009 10:06 AM, PST | TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

Last spring, ABC renewed venerable comedy Scrubs and newbie Better Off Ted, despite their low ratings. Now that they're back, the network is in a hurry to get rid of them.

Scrubs follows hospital life as seen through the eyes of Dr. J.D. Dorian (Zach Braff). After having left Sacred Heart last season, he's returned to help teach a new crop of med students. Others in the current cast include Donald Faison, John C. McGinley, Ken Jenkins, Sarah Chalke, Eliza Coupe, Kerry Bishe, Michael Mosley, and Dave Franco.

Better Off Ted follows Ted Crisp (Jay Harrington) and the other employees at Veridian Dynamics, a heartless technology company. The rest of the cast includes Andrea Anders, Jonathan Slavin, Malcolm Barrett, and Portia de Rossi.

Based simply on the ratings, neither ABC sitcom should have been renewed last season. Scrubs had dwindled to »

The Notable Films of 2010: Part Two

16 December 2009 3:18 AM, PST | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

Case 39

Opens: January 1st 2010

Cast: Renée Zellweger, Jodelle Ferland, Ian McShane, Bradley Cooper, Kerry O'Malley

Director: Christian Alvart

Summary: A family services social worker thinks she has seen it all until she meets her newest, most mysterious case - a troubled 10-year old girl whose parents try to kill her. The social worker decides to take her in herself until the right foster family comes along.

Analysis: Despite the presence of promising German director Christian Alvart ("Pandorum"), 'Case' has sat on a shelf since late 2006 and is finally being quietly shuffled out this year for one very good reason - it stinks. Having opened in Australia a few months back, reviewers utterly savaged the film as both incredibly dumb and utterly ludicrous. Lead star Renee Zellweger also scored personal criticism to a level rarely seen in film reviews outside of comments about Nicole Kidman's 'more alien than the »

Who Should Play Oscar in Ghostbusters 3?

13 December 2009 10:30 AM, PST | BuzzSugar | See recent BuzzSugar news »

I already can't wait for Ghostbusters 3, and apparently, neither can Sigourney Weaver. The star of the previous two movies may have revealed a new, pivotal character in an interview this week, saying, “I know that my little son Oscar - who was kidnapped from me - I think he has grown up to be a ghostbuster.” The Oscar in question is the baby in Ghostbusters 2, memorably spirited away by a ghostly nanny (one of the most terrifying parts to me as a kid). So this opens up a casting opportunity for the role of grown-up Oscar; it would need to be someone in their early 20s, with a whip-smart sense of humor that can keep up with that of Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd. I have my own ideas about the rising young male star who's also funny enough to be a fifth Ghostbuster. Shia Labeouf comes to mind, »

This week's Twilight update: Summit apparently wants Chris Weitz to reprise his role as director for Breaking Dawn and to split the final chapter into two films. Exclusive: Donald Faison and Dave Franco Talk Season 9 of ‘Scrubs’

2 December 2009 2:15 PM, PST | The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news »

Last night marked the first two episodes of the 9th season of Scrubs. The medical sitcom’s long life has helped it through a change in networks, and most recently a change in stories. This season, the series is taking a different direction by focusing on the lives of a new class of “scrubs”, while the original cast stays on as teachers at the medical school.

We got the chance to talk with stars Donald Faison (Turk) and Dave Franco (Cole) about this season. The two actors discussed the differences in this season to all others, how that has affected working on the show, and where Dave fits into all this.

The two also got a chance to discuss the new season 8 DVD, which is available now. Donald talks about some of the great features of the DVD, including collected webisodes, bloopers, and deleted scenes.

Check out our interview with the two after the jump, »

The new, revamped version of Scrubs premieres tonight, and you'll finally get to meet the new "next generation" cast, including one Dave Franco, who is not only a heartthrob in his own right, but just so happens to be movie star James Franco's little brother! We know there's room at Sacred Heart for new faces, since old-timers like Zach Braff are moving on to other projects, but are there any plans to bring the Spider-Man baddie onto the ABC comedy for a guest stint? Here's what we're hearing from original castmembers about the presence of the Franco brothers in Scrubs-land: First off, you should know that new castmember Dave Franco (who plays an entitled »

Buzz Interview: Donald Faison and Dave Franco on Scrubs 2.0

1 December 2009 9:45 AM, PST | BuzzSugar | See recent BuzzSugar news »

Scrubs is finally back tonight, but not without a complete Sacred Heart shakeup: founding star Zach Braff will only appear in a handful of episodes at the beginning of the season, but to cushion the blow, we'll meet three brand new characters. The newbies include Dave Franco (yes, James's younger bro), who plays one of the new med students mentored by Turk, Donald Faison's character. I'm super excited about the changes on the show and very curious about the new focus - so it was lucky that I was treated to a chat this week with Franco and Faison about what the new characters and roles mean for Scrubs this season. Donald, on whether there's a new vibe on the show: It's definitely new. It's a new show but it pretty much has the same vibe. It's still wacky, still very fast paced; there's just new characters in the world. »

TV Review: ‘Scrubs’ Returns For Awkward Season-Nine Premiere

1 December 2009 9:18 AM, PST | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – With great comedies often being cancelled before their time, how many TV writers and producers look at the trajectory of “Scrubs” with awe? Zach Braff’s sitcom has become the show that wouldn’t die, avoiding one network’s cancellation axe to be rescued by another and now coming back for another season after it aired its impressive series finale. Like the undead, this version of “Scrubs” almost looks the same, but isn’t quite right.

Television Rating: 2.0/5.0

When “Scrubs” ended, with a bittersweet and beautiful series finale earlier this year, creator Bill Lawrence was stunned to learn that ABC wanted more. Of course, a lot of the cast had moved on to other projects, and it would be difficult to bring even the regulars back for a true renewal. Consequently, Lawrence wanted to rename the show “Med School” and bring on new cast members with occasional supporting work »

'Scrubs' review: Same characters, new-ish show

30 November 2009 5:17 PM, PST | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

"Scrubs" begins its ninth season on Tuesday, and both ABC and the show's creator, Bill Lawrence, are encouraging us to think of the show as new in all but its title. There's a new setting, several new regulars and even a revamped opening credit sequence.

The transition -- established characters like J.D. (Zach Braff), Turk (Donald Faison) and Dr. Cox (John C. McGinley) are now teaching at a medical school -- is an admirably honest attempt by Lawrence and Co. to deal with the show being renewed after airing what was for all intents and purposes a series finale episode last spring. And there are moments in Tuesday's two-episode premiere (it's at 9 p.m. Et on ABC) that are quite good.

The whole thing, though, feels just a little bit awkward. If you are -- like me -- enough of a "Scrubs" fan that you just enjoy spending time with these characters, »
