Arriving in select theaters and on all VOD platforms this Friday the 13th is co-writer/director Aislinn Clarke’s Satanic stunner, The Devil’s Doorway, which transports viewers back to the year 1960, when an Irish convent is being investigated by two priests after it is revealed that a Virgin Mary statue on the premises has been weeping blood, and they must determine whether or not the act is a bona fide miracle. What the priests uncover is far more sinister than they could have ever imagined, though, and the holy house of horrors’ demented secrets are all captured on 16mm film.
Daily Dead recently spoke with Clarke about The Devil’s Doorway, and she discussed the inspiration behind her debut feature film, as well as the challenges of shooting a movie found footage style, mostly on 16mm film to boot. The up-and-coming director also chatted about wanting to deliver a surprising story for viewers,...

13 Coins Volume 1 collects together issues 1-6 of the 13 Coins mini-series, which was previously published by Corinthian Productions. The initial thing that caught my eye was the pedigree of the creative people involved. Eisner Award winning artist Simon Bisley is something of a legend in the field for his powerful, often uber-violent stylised artwork, (his Judge Dredd is still a personal favourite) and the writing team of Brennan and Jackson have a decent record as writers for computer games (Hitman:Absolution is on their resume, for example). Promising….
The set-up is one that is in every scriptwriters ‘how to…’ handbook. Essentially, normal guy bored with life discovers he is actually special and destined for better things; it plugs into all our subconscious desires, that there really is more to life than this. The average...

Set to launch at New York Comic-Con this October, upcoming comic series 13 Coins headed out to San Diego last month with a fantastic trailer to showcase what will soon be landing on the shelves in a few months’ time.
Penned by Martin Brennan and Michael B. Jackson, the writers behind the acclaimed video game Hitman: Absolution, the series features artwork from Simon Bisley (Lobo) and Ben Templesmith (30 Days of Night). And if the trailer out of Comic-Con is anything to judge by, then this is definitely one to look forward to for fans of the medium a little later this year.

The Mulbury Project is a very interesting independent horror/sci-fi project that comes from the co-writers of Hitman Absolution.
Due to hit the big screen next year, the project involves both a feature film and a comic series from co-writers Martin Brennan and Michael B. Jackson, and the first trailer has recently landed online. And given the genre, involving zombies and aliens, you can no doubt imagine why it’s not suitable for work.
“In the aftermath of an alien invasion, an orphan boy braves the disease ridden landscape to help a young girl find her way home and hide from the ruthless corporation that is chasing her.”
Richie Smyth is behind the camera of the film, having recently won a Cannes Lion Award this year for his Ispcc advert, I Can’t Wait.
The horror/sci-fi genres are very rarely seen in independent movies, especially those with a budget like this,...

Composer Ian Smyth (Rewind) is putting the finishing touches to a score for an Irish feature film pitch which has received funding from the Irish Film Board. Smyth, who works across TV, film and commercials, has composed an orchestral score for director Richie Smyth's 'The Mulbury Project,' a sci-fi horror feature set in the near future, which will be produced by Northern Ireland's Heaven's Gate Films. Richie Smyth is set to pitch the proof-of-concept to Us studios later this summer along with writers Martin Brennan and Michael B. Jackson.
