8 July 2016 8:52 AM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

Following up Tracks, John Curran has found his next feature, and he’s finalizing his cast. Jason Clarke is being joined by Kate Mara and Ed Helms for Chappaquiddick, Deadline reports. It tells the real-life story of the fateful night senator Ted Kennedy (Clarke) lost control of his vehicle and drove it off a bridge, overturning the vehicle and trapping his passenger Mary Jo Kopechne (Mara) while he escaped. Instead of calling the police, Kennedy called upon his cousin Joe Gargan (Helms) and a friend, whom he told to go back to the scene and try to find her body. While Gargan was loyal, he also found great moral issue in the situation and eventually convinced Kennedy to call the police the next morning. The script is penned by Taylor Allen and Andrew Logan, and is being produced by Mark Ciardi and Campbell McInnes. Mara has had a lot on her plate, »

Interviewing 'The Neon Demon's' defiled corpse: 'It kept going further'

5 July 2016 3:01 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Note: The below interview contains plot spoilers for The Neon Demon. The Neon Demon is a hugely divisive film that for me was never less than a fascinating watch. Love him or loathe him, Nicholas Winding Refn takes things to extremes that most other filmmakers wouldn’t dare; in Neon Demon specifically, the late-second and third acts are full of moments both shocking in their audacity and striking in how they manage to lure us in even as they repel us. Chief among these is a scene involving Jena Malone’s makeup artist Ruby and a blond female cadaver that gets very uncomfortable very fast. The more obvious, and equally valid, approach here would be to reach out to Refn and/or Malone to discuss the mechanics of an incredibly disturbing, button-pushing scene, and yet -- as someone perpetually fascinated by those who occupy the lower rungs on the Hollywood »

The Charming Potato and 'Kingsman 2' seem to be a match made in Heaven

14 April 2016 1:25 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

The Charming Potato is joining the cast of Kingsman: The Golden Circle! I remember the moment Channing Tatum clicked for me. It certainly wasn’t on first exposure. Sometimes I see an actor and immediately like what they’re doing, and when I saw A Guide To Recognizing Your Saints, it was with some early hype about both the director, Dito Montiel, and this amazing new young star, Channing Tatum. Didn’t work for me at all. He was fine in the Step Up films, but that’s because the dancing was front and center. Films like Dear John or Stop-Loss did nothing to change my opinion of Tatum, and in a few cases, like G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra or The Eagle, I thought his presence actually damaged the overall movie. For me, the first sign that he might actually be worth paying attention to was The Dilemma, »

Boulevard review – a creaky affair

10 April 2016 12:00 AM, PDT | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

In his final screen role Robin Williams plays a closeted bank worker coyly in love with a young street hustler

In the latter stretch of his career, the late Robin Williams developed a line in variously dark, disturbed or agonised roles, a sort of extended penance for playing universal Care Bear in glutinous gunk like Patch Adams. Written by Douglas Soesbe and directed by Dito Montiel – briefly a biggish Us indie name with A Guide to Recognising Your Saints – Boulevard casts him as Nolan, a closeted bank worker who falls platonically but helplessly for a young street hustler (Roberto Aguire). It’s a lugubrious, creaky affair, as Williams squishes up his face and droops his shoulders with a coyness that can be downright embarrassing. Boulevard comes alive, however, when the formidable Kathy Baker – one of Hollywood’s most perpetually underrated – gets her scenes as Nolan’s wife Joy. This was Williams’s last onscreen role, »

Film Review: Boulevard

6 April 2016 10:00 AM, PDT | CineVue | See recent CineVue news »

★★☆☆☆ The majority of headlines and reviews on Boulevard - this one included - will preface any thoughts on Dito Montiel's latest offering with the simple fact that it is Robin Williams' last appearance onscreen. Considering the final performance of a cinematic great brings with it a tendency for nostalgia and, occasionally, undue praise, so while remaining compassionate it's important to be as dispassionate as possible. With the best will in the world it must be said that Boulevard is a less than worthy denouement to a fine career.

Robin Williams stars in UK trailer & poster for ‘Boulevard’

26 March 2016 12:30 PM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Although Boulevard has found itself a staggered release since it’s debut at Tribeca in 2014, Robin Williams final on-screen performance is here in what’s described as an ‘honest and bittersweet drama that sets out to tell us that it’s never too late to be truthful to yourself, whatever the consequences.’

The loss of Williams is still saddening but his life legacy lives on and shines so very brightly. The films he took on in his final few years appeared to highlight a change in the roles he wanted to take on but also continued to show us all that he was always versatile and one to watch. Award-winning director Dito Montiel takes the reigns in this drama that also stars Bob Odenkirk, Roberto Aguire and Kathy Baker.

Watch the trailer below and see the official synopsis, it’s in UK cinemas from April 8th:

Boulevard opens in the UK on 8th April. »
