- His two biggest hits were "Running Bear" and "Cradle of Love." His friend, disc jockey and singer J.P. Richardson (aka The Big Bopper), wrote "Running Bear" but died in the plane crash that also killed Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens. Preston released the song, "Running Bear," after his death in tribute to him.
