Andrew Garfield Cried when he put on the Spider-Man Costume

30 December 2010 10:11 AM, PST | GeekTyrant | See recent GeekTyrant news »

In a recent interview, Andrew Garfield revealed that he shed a tear when he put on the Spider-Mancostume for Marc Webb's new 3D reboot. Since we don't have any photos of him in the costume yet, all we really have to go off of is what Garfield say's about it.

It’s bizarre and I have to not look at my face. It’s strange and surreal to be wearing it and I won’t lie I actually shed a tear when I first wore the spandex for the first time. I didn’t expect to get so emotional but I did.

I guess I can relate to that... I cried after the first time I put on my Kick-Ass costume and got stabbed and hit by a car. No wait, that wasn't me. Garfield is obviously extremely exited to take on this role, and get paid to do it. »

Tobey McGuire Gave Andrew Garfield His Support in Taking Up the Mantle of Spider-man

30 December 2010 | The Daily BLAM! | See recent The Daily BLAM! news »

While offering praise for his Spider-Man co-stars, Garfield also said that donning the suit for the first time was an emotional experience for him Marc Webb's yet to be titled Spider-Man film stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen and Denis Leary. The film is scheduled to hit 3D theaters July 3rd, 2012. In a recent interview with BBC, Garfield expounded a bit more about being cast as Peter Parker in the reboot: "I've been lucky enough to work with Denis Leary and Emma Stone and hung out with Rhys Ifans a little bit. I'm just in heaven, like a kid in a candy store. I feel like one lucky boy, I tell you. I have to kind of not look at my face because it doesn't make sense to me. I have to imagine that it's a much better actor's face in that suit... I won't lie. »

Tobey Maguire Sends Note of Support to Andrew Garfield for Spider-Man Reboot

29 December 2010 6:24 PM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

When director Sam Raimi decided to leave the Spider-Man 4, star Tobey Maguire followed, though the actor admitted he would have stayed on as Peter Parker had Raimi not quit. Columbia Pictures decided to reboot Spider-Man, hiring Marc Webb to direct and cast Andrew Garfield in July as Peter Parker.

Production on the reboot began in Los Angeles this month, and during a break for the holidays, Garfield told BBC News (via MTV) that Maguire offered him support in taking over the role.

Andrew Garfield Expounds on Spider-Man Production

29 December 2010 | Comingsoon.net | See recent Comingsoon.net news »

In the midst of some serious recognition for his performances in both The Social Network and Never Let Me Go (including a recent Golden Globe nomination for the former), Andrew Garfield has been appearing on a number of outlets to talk about his busy year, including two weeks of production on Marc Webb's Spider-Man reboot. It was during his first day of shooting with co-star Emma Stone when both actors learned of their respective nominations (Stone's for her performance in Easy A ), Garfield told London's Capital FM . "We spent our time kind of giggling to each other and going, 'We fooled them! We fooled them all!'" Garfield laughed. "I've been lucky enough to work with Denis Leary and Emma Stone and hung out with Rhys Ifans a little bit," »

Shaun Says Love & Other Drugs Is Sexy, Classy But Predictable

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

When searching for directors who craft unerringly human romantic comedies that never patronise their viewers, who do we turn to?

The list can be counted on one hand; Cameron Crowe (Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Say Anything, Jerry Maguire), Woody Allen (Annie Hall, Manhattan), perhaps even Kevin Smith (Chasing Amy), and most recently Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer). What we certainly don’t expect is for Edward Zwick, best known for his impressively mounted epics and actioners (Glory, The Last Samurai, Blood Diamond, Defiance), to come out with this refreshingly honest, if occasionally too treacly stab at the genre.

We meet Jamie (Jake Gyllenhaal) as he is a lowly, albeit charming, electronics store employee in the mid-90s. Having dropped out of medical school, he instead decides to become a pharmaceutical representative, lobbying doctors through various means to prescribe his favoured brands of medication. In this »

One would expect that there were some hard feelings after Sony dropped their planned "Spider-Man 4" movie early this year and chose instead to pursue a reboot of the franchise focusing on a teenage Peter Parker. But the star of the upcoming "Spider-Man" film, Andrew Garfield, said that isn't the case.

In fact, during an interview with BBC News, Garfield said that, though he still hasn't met Tobey Maguire, the previous star of the "Spider-Man" franchise has willingly passed the torch to the young British actor.

"[Maguire] sent me a lovely message through a mutual friend," Garfield revealed. "He gave me his support, and it meant a great deal, of course, because part of the reason I love and have continued to »

MTV Splash Page's Top 10 Interviews Of 2010

28 December 2010 1:28 PM, PST | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

As we inch ever closer to the year's end, we've ranked our favorite comics of the year, our favorite movies and television series, and even our favorite news stories of 2010. And while that's all well and good, it's worth noting that the projects we included on those lists weren't always our readers' favorite subjects this year.

That's why we put together a list each year that ranks the most popular stories published on the site over the last 12 months. After all, these were the stories that you were most interested in this year, and the subjects that brought readers to the site most often — according to our traffic data, at least.

In years past, we simply offered a list of the Top 10 Stories Of The Year, but this time around we decided to be a bit more comprehensive and post three Top 10 lists, beginning with the year's most popular interviews, »

The (Dis)comfort of 3D... Should We Get Used To It?

27 December 2010 2:58 PM, PST | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

More and more frequently, the content of a film, the director or the cast is becoming less of a priority. Instead, the phrase "In mind-blowing 3D" has become the tagline norm just as much as the wit on display when marketing execs decide "Slow justice is no justice" is fitting for the 2D fare. I, as should all of us, blame James Cameron.

As innocent as Cameron's effect on cinema may have been, thanks to him and Avatar, not only was it proven 3D is an alphanumeric acronym for "Show me the money!" but it also brought along the idea 3D wasn't simply a tool for less-imaginative helmers. And by the way, I think Cameron realizes this.

Would Martin Scorsese have ever said, "Why couldn't a film like Precious be in 3D? It should be," if it wasn't for Avatar? Scorsese's statement was made in early March 2010, right around the »

Gemma Arterton & Andrew Garfield Join Michael Mann's 'Capa'

27 December 2010 10:30 AM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Over a year ago we heard that director Michael Mann (Public Enemies, Collateral) was developing a biopic of renowned war photographer Robert Capa, focusing on his two year romance with fellow photographer Gerda Taro during the Spanish Civil War. Simply called Capa the story begins in Paris in 1935 where Capa, a refugee from Hungary, met Taro, a Jewish refugee from Nazi Germany. It sounds like Mann has found his leads in some promising young talent as TotalFilm caught up with Gemma Arterton (Clash of the Titans, Prince of Persia) who revealed that she and Andrew Garfield (The Social Network) are set to star in this. Garfield, who is currently in the midst of shooting Marc Webb's new Spider-Man, will play the titular photographer while Arterton (who, despite her beauty, has sort of tried my patience as an actress) will play Taro. Emma Stone to Appear in Several Spider-Man Movies

27 December 2010 9:30 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

When Emma Stone was first announced as being cast in director Marc Webb's still-untitled reboot of Spider-Man, the actress' signature red hair made her the perfect match for the character of Mary Jane Watson, Spider-Man's life-long love, until Sony corrected the reports and revealed that Stone would play Gwen Stacy instead.

In the comic books, Stacy serves as the college love interest for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), a.k.a. Spider-Man, well before Mary Jane. Considering Stacy's tragic ending at the hands of the Green Goblin, it was assumed that Stone would only appear in the initial reboot, but while appearing on The Tonight Show, Stone admitted that she may have to keep her natural blonde hair for a while.

Bryan Singer to Shoot Jack The Giant Killer in 3D with the Epic Red Camera

27 December 2010 8:22 AM, PST | GeekTyrant | See recent GeekTyrant news »

This new Epic Red camera has become the hot new filmmaking item in Hollywood these days. Peter Jackson is shooting The Hobbit in 3D with it, Marc Webb is shooting the new Spider-Man movie with the Epic, and now Bryan Singer has announced that he'll direct Jack the Giant Killer with the camera as well.

Here's what Singer recently said on the RedUser Forums:

I'm very much looking forward to using the Epic Red for my next movie Jack the Giant Killer which will be shot in, what else, 3D. The camera's incredibly compact size and extraordinary resolution are ideal for the 3D format. But more importantly Jack the Giant Killer is my first movie set in a time before electricity. The Epic's extraordinary exposure latitude will allow me to more effectively explore the use of natural light.

The 3D fantasy/adventure project has been described as an adult look »

Andrew Garfield Updates Production on Spider-Man Reboot

24 December 2010 8:42 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Production on Marc Webb's untitled Spider-Man reboot began several weeks ago, evident in the production photos that sprang up almost immediately. Andrew Garfield is assuming the lead role of Peter Parker, a.k.a. Spider-Man, in the movie, and spoke to the UK's Guardian (via ComingSoon) about the movie's progress so far.

We started shooting two weeks ago and then we have Christmas off. Then we're back into it for, gosh, a fair bit of time...I think for this I'm going to have to kind of hibernate into this character for at least four or five months... I feel like a kid in my pajamas. I can only say how it feels and it feels pretty special. It feels like a dream realized and a fantasy realized. Again, I don't take it lightly and I feel incredibly lucky that I get to wear spandex for the next couple of months. »

Andrew Garfield Talks ‘Spider-Man’ Reboot; Shooting Locations Revealed

24 December 2010 7:43 AM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Despite the fact that shooting is already underway on Marc Webb’s upcoming Spider-Man reboot, Sony has kept most details close to the vest (or spider-suit).

But Social Network star, Andrew Garfield couldn’t let his co-star, Emma Stone, be the only one spilling the beans about the next Spider-Man franchise installment.

The Guardian caught up with Garfield for their Film Weekly podcast (which you can listen to Here), and managed to get the reluctant star to reveal a few, albeit, vague details about the Spider-Man reboot as well as his feelings about getting to play a super-hero:

“I’m going to have to hibernate into this character for at least four or five months. I feel like a kid in my pyjamas. I can only say how it feels and it feels ...

The entire crew are on Christmas break for now, but shooting will commence shortly after.  Garfield says he has already tried on the Spidey suit and is working out for the role as well, though it seems they won’t be going for a beefy version of Spider-Man. Andrew Garfield Talks About Suiting Up For ‘Spider-Man’

23 December 2010 8:00 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Marc Webb's new Spider-Man film has been shooting for a couple weeks now, but the production is on Christmas break right now. We've seen a few set pics [1]from the shoot, but nothing yet of Andrew Garfield, who plays Peter Parker and Spider-Man, and nothing of the costume for the title character. I think quite a few people are curious to see what the actor will look like in the suit, but for now we'll have to make do with a few comments he made in an interview. The Guardian [2] has a short audio interview with Andrew Garfield that comes at the end of this week's Film Weekly podcast. Asked about whether he's been fitted for the suit (of course he has) the actor dances around the question, but eventually says, I can only say how it feels and it feels pretty special. It feels like a dream realized and a fantasy realized. »
