Mail's X addiction continues | Media Monkey

21 December 2010 2:58 AM, PST | The Guardian - TV News | See recent The Guardian - TV News news »

A week after the Daily Mail got itself into a lather about Christina Aguilera and Rihanna's "simulated sexual moves" on The X Factor final, before going on to reprint the images on a raunchy double-page spread, the paper is at it again today. "This paper was first to question the lewd, highly sexual imagery which spoilt ITV's The X Factor final, which was watched by countless young children," its leader rails. Ofcom's decision to investigate the show's sultry side is "a relief", it says, before calling for sanctions to deter broadcasters from repeating "this grubby episode". Presumably the paper will have to look elsewhere for its double-page spreads.

'The X Factor' Investigated for Christina Aguilera and Rihanna's Racy Performance

20 December 2010 9:46 PM, PST | Celebrity Mania | See recent Celebrity Mania news »

Christina Aguilera and Rihanna have not only generated complaints from British viewers over their racy performance on "The X Factor", but also trouble for the Simon Cowell-created talent show. Media regulator Ofcom, the British version of FCC, is launching an investigation into the Saturday, December 11 finale after receiving at least 2,750 complaints.

The Saturday night show, which attracted 14 million viewers, saw Christina wearing low-cut black dress and dancing suggestively with lingerie-clad dancers when singing songs from her upcoming film "Burlesque". Rihanna, in the meantime, heated the stage when stripping out of a long gown to reveal a bustier and tiny skirt when taking the stage to deliver her single "What's My Name".

Since the show was kicked off at 7 P.M., complains over the performances was inevitable. According to the Guardian, number of complaints have more than doubled since images from the finale were printed in a double-page spread in the Daily Mail. »

'X Factor' 'soft porn'? Christina Aguilera and Rihanna's racy finale performance

20 December 2010 1:54 PM, PST | Pop2it | See recent Pop2it news »

The Brits are in an uproar over the Season 7 finale (Dec. 11) of its reality talent show "The X Factor," but the controversy isn't about who won or lost.

Instead, singers Christina Aguilera and Rihanna offered up performances that shocked viewers at home, mainly because the sexualized content was shown before the watershed hour of 9 p.m., reports the Daily Mail.

Rihanna threw off a gown to reveal a bustier and tiny skirt while performing "What's My Name?" Later, Aguilera and some backup dancers appeared in skimpy outfits and danced suggestively for their "Burlesque" number. In particular, one backup dancer's ensemble caused one viewer to comment, "Christina's blonde dancer with the suspenders and bum hanging out is soft porn."

Ofcam, the British counterpart of the FCC, has received at least 2,750 complaints, while network ITV has received 1,500. Ofcam is investigating the complaints.

'X Factor' under investigation for sexy performances from Christina Aguilera and Rihanna

20 December 2010 11:51 AM, PST | EW - Inside TV | See recent EW.com - Inside TV news »

British talent show The X Factor may have to pay for an episode that has made many wonder whether the show should be renamed The XXX Factor. On Dec. 11, the show featured so-called racy performances from both Christina Aguilera and Rihanna — and now Ofcom (think of it as Britain’s version of the FCC) has launched an investigation, according to The Guardian.

Following suggestive numbers from Aguilera — promoting Burlesque — and Rihanna, whose performance of “What’s My Name” involved a tame striptease, more than 4,000 viewers complained, claiming that the racy performances should not have been aired at such an early hour. »

The X Factor faces inquiry over Christina Aguilera and Rihanna dance routines

Almost 3,000 viewers complain to Ofcom over singers' raunchy performances

ITV1's The X Factor is to be investigated by media regulator Ofcom after there were more than 4,000 complaints that dance routines by Christina Aguilera and Rihanna in the final earlier this month were inappropriate for a pre-watershed show.

The singers performed a series of raunchy routines in the first part of the final of the Simon Cowell talent show, which was broadcast between 7pm and 9pm on Saturday 11 December.

Ofcom said it had received 2,750 complaints, while 1,500 were sent to ITV.

The number of complaints have more than doubled since images from the final were printed in a double-page spread in the Daily Mail last Tuesday, under the headline "We apologise to readers but you have to see these pictures to understand the fury they've stirred".

Insiders at the show were said to be frustrated that the paper had published still images from the routines. »

The X Factor: Christina Aguilera and Rihanna's outfits spark complaints

14 December 2010 4:01 PM, PST | The Guardian - TV News | See recent The Guardian - TV News news »

Artists' costumes worn during The X Factor final resulted in over 2,000 complaints from viewers

ITV and the media regulator Ofcom have received 2,000 complaints about the raunchy routines performed by Christina Aguilera and Rihanna during The X Factor final.

Both artists appeared in skimpy outfits in Saturday's two-part series final, which was won by singer Matt Cardle on Sunday.

An Ofcom, which received half of the 2,000 complaints, spokesman said it had not decided if it would formally investigate whether the show had broken the broadcasting code for inappropriate scheduling of material unsuitable for children.

Saturday's show, broadcast between 7pm, had an average audience of just over 14m.

An X Factor spokesman said the producers were confident the performances "were appropriate for the show".
