I usually go into writing my "Vampire Diaries" recaps with a snarky and silly attitude, but right now I'm feeling more nervous than anything!
It's no secret that "By The Light of the Moon" is Tyler's (Michael Trevino) big transformation episode, and judging by the clips we saw of Mason's first turn, it's going to be a hell of a night.
There's plenty going on in Mystic Falls that doesn't involve Tyler. Stefan is trapped in the tomb, Elena is still on a suicide mission, and Jeremy and Bonnie and Luka are part of the most lopsided love triangle ever.
I spent a few days with the cast of "The Vampire Diaries" on their set in Atlanta this week and got some fun insight into the shooting of this episode, which is definitely my most anticipated episode yet. Can they pull off this wolf-out? Let's see.

Say what you will about Mason Lockwood (Taylor Kinney), but clearly the dude was well liked by the Floridians. Michaela McManus makes her "The Vampire Diaries" debut on Thursday, Dec. 9, as Jules, a friend of Mason's who comes to Mystic Falls looking for him. Now, Stephen Amell has been confirmed as a guest star and what do you know? He has a connection to our dearly departed werewolf as well.
As first reported by E! Online, Amell will be playing Brady, who producers say is "an old friend of Mason Lockwood who blows into town with a vengeance. [He's a] loyal friend or your worst enemy depending on who you are. Did we mention he was hot?" A hot guy on "Tvd"? What a nice change of pace for the show. No word yet on if Brady is a werewolf or not.
Amell will appear in two episodes, one of which he is filming now (episode 13). Clearly, »
Mason Lockwood (Taylor Kinney) may be dead, but his werewolfy legacy lives on. Insiders confirm to us that a young actor named Stephen Amell has joined the cast of CW's The Vampire Diaries as a character with a connection to Tyler's (Michael Trevino) gorgeous uncle. So who is this new kid, exactly, and what role does he play in Mystic Falls' ongoing werewolf-vampire shenanigans? Here's what we can reveal: Producers tell us this about Amell's character: "Stephen plays Brady—an old friend of Mason Lockwood who blows into town with a vengeance. [He's a] loyal friend or your worst enemy depending on who you are. Did we mention he was hot?" (We believe you about the »
Whew. After two cold, lonely, dark, painful Thursdays without "The Vampire Diaries," those Mystic Falls kids came back with a vengeance tonight. This episode, "The Sacrifice," moved so fast I nearly gave up on taking notes.
Previously on "The Vampire Diaries": Klaus is looking to break the moonstone spell that prevents vampires from walking in the sun. In order to do it, he's going to need to sacrifice Elena... and almost everyone she cares about. To get to her, he'll stop at nothing.
There's a catch, though. That moonstone binds not only the vampires' spell - but also the one that forces werewolves to transform at every full moon. It's a bit of a race to the finish line, because once one spell is broken, the other will be eternal.
I needed a little bit of clarification on the whole spell situation, so I checked in with executive producer Julie Plec, »
Plus, the big mystery of the Dec. 2 episode: Where did Jeremy’s Justin Bieber hair come from… and where did it go?
Things didn’t go too well on this week’s episode of The Vampire Diaries… for anyone. Damon (Ian Somerhalder) got physical with Elena (Nina Dobrev), Bonnie (Katerina Graham) rejected Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen), and now Stefan (Paul Wesley) is stuck in the tomb with Katherine!
Bonnie and her new warlock pal Luka (Bryton James) had a special moment after school — and by that I literally mean they held hands, made it super windy, and he gave her what I can only describe as a “magic-gasm.” Seriously, the look on that girl’s face was indescribable. (See the comic above for the goods.)
But Luka wasn’t the only Manwich on Bonnie’s plate this week. To keep Bonnie from exhausting herself with magic, Jeremy went after Katherine »
We have bad news for "Twilight" fans: According to Baby Center, Isabella and Jacob have been dethroned as the top baby names in 2010 after taking the honors last year. And Team Edward, we're pretty disappointed in you; Your sparkly dream man's name didn't even crack the top 100.
So what names did parents of the world have the nerve to give to their children?
Drum roll, please. The top two baby names were ... Sophia and Aiden. We're kind of disappointed since we're at a loss for a recent pop culture phenomenon that used those names. To be fair, Aiden has always been a very popular baby name.
A name that surprised us? Mason, which came in at No. 11 (up from No. 29 last year). While he's probably not the sole reason the name made the list, we're still going to give full credit to Taylor Kinney (a.k.a. Uncle Mason) from "The Vampire Diaries. »
If, like me, you stalk (er... follow) "The Vampire Diaries" stars on Twitter, you probably noticed when resident Mystic Falls werewolf-in-training Michael Trevino tweeted, "A Vampire transformation is Nothing compared to a Werewolf transformation in Mystic Falls. Those suckers have it easy."
When Trevino and co-star Candice Accola visited the Zap2it offices last week, I had to get the scoop - especially considering how Accola has been playing out Caroline's vampire transformation this season.
"I felt a little fortunate, Vicki transformed so I got to use that as kind of a note sheet, of sorts, a cheat sheet," Accola says. "I mean, I kind of had a certain map to go off of, which there really hadn't been for a werewolf transformation."
Luckily, Trevino didn't have to go it alone. Tyler's new friend, and possible love interest, sticks by him throughout the whole grueling ordeal. "It was very interesting. »
Co-star Kat Graham tweeted a photo of a sign from the set with a very exciting message (we'll just ignore the bad grammar -- you try writing while handling live wolves).
I don't know about you, but I can hardly wait to see the transformation scenes. When Uncle Mason (Taylor Kinney) turned into a wolf, he had to chain himself up and sedate himself... of course, he was unsuccessful. Still, what we saw of the transformation looked painful and intense - I winced watching Mason struggle. Still, most of the actual switch from human to wolf was hidden from us -- Mason took shelter in his sweet Bronco.
I'm sure Tyler's transformation will be even more startling, since it's a first for him. Hopefully, he won't have to go it alone. »
Those of us already addicted to The Vampire Diaries on The CW know that the show has yet to introduce the gay character that co-creator Kevin Williamson promised would be added this season. Which is a good thing for those of you not yet watching Tvd, as it gives you a chance to get caught up now so you'll be up to speed when the gay character finally does arrive in Mystic Falls.
I mean, what's worse than being the only gay on the block not up to date? Plus, this week's episode has a masquerade ball and us gays love nothing more than a good costume party!
So in preparation for that event, and in the spirit of Halloween, here is our Gay/Bi guide to The Vampire Diaries. Please note, to make things easier, I'll be referencing two of the gayest horror shows to have ever aired — Buffy the Vampire Slayer »

This season on "Supernatural," decades of hunting experience aren't helping Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) much. The monsters are playing by a new set of rules and all of the Winchesters' usual tricks are failing them. We've already seen djinns, vampires, shapeshifters, and angels behaving in very demon-like ways.
Spoiler alert! Things aren't going to get better any time soon. Before they battle outside forces, the brothers have to handle some internal matters. This week, Dean will demand answers from Sam, who will have no choice but to spill, since Dean has been cursed by the Goddess of Truth. (Of course, if Sam ends up being able to lie anyway, it wouldn't be the first time he's been immune to a supernatural whammy.)
Then there's the issue of their reincarnated grandfather Samuel (Mitch Pileggi) and his tendency to be really, really shady. Though it appears he knows more »
Taylor Kinney has suggested that he could return to The Vampire Diaries in the future. In the episode of the show which aired in the States last week, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) appeared to murder Kinney's character Mason by ripping out his heart. However, Kinney told Zap2It that the writers on the show are always open to changing their storylines. "They have an outline for the season, where they want to take it, but they also leave in the opportunity to see what happens with the characters, see what storylines are working and to look at the chemistry," he explained. "They're not necessarily married to one idea." Kinney added that Mason could reappear, (more) »

Taylor Kinney has discussed his character's shock exit from last week's episode of The Vampire Diaries. Kinney's character, werewolf Mason Lockwood, was brutally tortured by the antihero Damon Salvatore, eventually resulting in his death at the hands of the vampire. Kinney told Entertainment Weekly of his unexpected exit. "I thought the lead-up was great, but yeah, I was like, 'Really? Holy s**t!'" He added that filming (more) »

In last night's episode of "The Vampire Diaries," we said goodbye to one of my favorite new characters, Mason Lockwood (Taylor Kinney). After seeing Mason literally get his heart ripped out, I was eager to talk to Kinney and take a look back at his time in Mystic Falls.
We chatted about everything from Mason's trust issues with Katherine to Kinney's tattoos... and he filled me in on one of his favorite childhood games. Let's just say that Kinney has always had the wild imagination that makes him so fun to watch on screen.
Zap2it: Even though Mason was on Katherine's (Nina Dobrev) side, he maintained a bit of sympathy right down to the bitter end. Would you classify him as a good guy or a bad guy?
Taylor Kinney: Especially on this show, the lines are so blurry. There's no definitive line between who's good and who's »
Taylor Kinney has revealed that he knew his character would die on The Vampire Diaries. In last night's episode, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) killed Mason by apparently ripping out his heart. Kinney has now told E! Online that he always knew that Mason would die on the show. "I knew how long the character was going to be around initially," he said. "That's the build-up. So you get this character and you get in there and we build him up and hopefully if you do your job right the audience is affected. We get to see in the life of this character and he gets into their lives." Kinney also suggested that Tyler (Michael Trevino) will now have a "big storyline", saying: "I think Mason's (more) »

Those sexy scenes were a couple of the only light moments in an especially dark, shocking, exciting episode of the show. We witnessed Damon go all Jack Bauer on Mason, Jenna plunge a knife into her gut and Katherine provide us with a likely answer to this question. Just great stuff all around.
Let's start with my one complaint: the reveal of Mason and Katherine's relationship was a bit lame. Bonnie simply bumped into the werewolf and saw a vision of him kissing the evil doppleganger. Had we even seen her use this power before? It »

They promised us action, shocks, heartbreak and death and boy did they deliver on that promise. This episode continued to develop the story with twists and speed that I feel like I need to lie down before writing this review. If you would like to read a more in-depth take on this action packed episode then you should check out Mark O. Estes fantastic recap here.
Katherine continues to wreak havoc for all in Mystic Falls despite having some very limited screen time in “Plan B”, though the episode opened with scenes that intercut between Stefan and Elena in bed together and with Mason and Katherine also enjoying some bedroom fun. The positioning of these scenes made me feel a little uneasy, showing a fake manipulative romance alongside one that is genuine had an air of doom that led to neither couple being in tact by the episodes end. So »

On your mark, get set, play.
8:01 - Oh, Elena (Nina Dobrev). You know it's bad when your boyfriend - your vampire boyfriend - tells you that watching him sleep is creepy. It's kind of their thing. This whole warm, intimate scene should feel comfortable and safe, but whenever anyone is happy on this show, I get nervous. It always means things are going to take a turn for the worse.
Meanwhile, Katherine is at a... cozy bed and breakfast? I picture her at a more upscale, fireplace in your suite, your own personal bellhop to drink for dinner kind of place. Make note, guys - I have a feeling that Katherine's random exposition about Miss Flowers is going to become relevant in the future. »
Don't say we didn't warn you! Now that you know the identity of the major character dying on The Vampire Diaries, it's time for a postmortem. Join us for an exclusive sit-down with the dearly departed, and learn how the death opens up big storylines for another major character... Sniffle. Sorry guys, we know how much you loved Taylor Kinney's Mason Lockwood, and yes, it's true, he's dead and gone. We sat down with Taylor himself to discuss the death, his abs and what this means for the future of The Vampire Diaries. He told us that Mason's passing opens up big storylines for Tyler (Michael Trevino), and that he always knew the ax would fall on Mason sooner rather than »
