- Jason Gullifer is a Los Angeles-based actor and editor. Born in Parma, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland, Gullifer describes his childhood years as 'All-American,' growing up in the Midwest in a lower-middle class home. His parents divorced when he was two years old and his mother raised him. She was a witty woman with a good sense of humor and always encouraged him to pursue his dreams.
Jason spent his childhood riding his bike to the neighborhood pond to go fishing, playing war games in the woods, and collecting baseball cards. As a kid, his film heroes were Superman and Han Solo. He was a very imaginative child and loved to play Dungeons and Dragons at sleepovers with his friends. Jason spent his days imagining himself as a knight during medieval times, and going on quests to collect treasure. Jason was always a big fan of television, and loved watching Saturday Night Live and imitating its silly characters. He attributes his love for sketch and stand-up comedy to those early years watching SNL.
Jason attended middle and high school in his hometown of Parma, and then moved to Sheffield Lake, where he finished high school. He was very interested in art, though he didn't get involved in theater as he was very shy. Instead, he expressed his art through other art forms such as drawing, painting, and sculpting in art class. He overcame this shyness by discovering he could make people laugh and made friends by being the class clown. An avid chess player, he won a tournament in his high school chess club. He was also very active in sports including track, wrestling, baseball, basketball, and football, the latter of which was his favorite sport.
Jason received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Kent State University, where he studied fine arts, graphic design and acting. In college, he had a reputation for being a walking encyclopedia of obscure TV shows because he watched so much of them. He and his friends would write sketches and shows and film them with his camcorder to share with friends. His time at Kent State fueled his desire to get involved in the performing arts, and gave him the confidence ultimately to move to Hollywood to pursue his dream of a career in the entertainment industry.
Jason moved to Los Angeles in the mid-90s to pursue his acting career. He immediately started studying at The Groundlings for improvisation and sketch comedy, and Playhouse West for drama. He also had the opportunity early on to study with Jeff Goldblum. He went on to become a member of ACME Comedy Theater and did sketch shows on a weekly basis. He soon began booking major commercial campaigns. He created multiple sketch comedy pilots, and several short comedy films. Jason's favorite job outside of acting was as a film editor working on TV pilots for CBS. He enjoyed observing how television shows were assembled and then pitched to the network.
Jason also enjoys participating in philanthropic events. He cares deeply for rescue animals, and does marches to benefit shelter dogs. He also regularly participates in walks for cancer research with one of his friends who suffers from the disease.- IMDb Mini Biography By: Steven P. Le Vine
