SAG Awards predictions head-scratcher: Can ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ win drama without having the biggest cast?
When it comes to the SAG Awards, size often matters. The most massive casts often run off with the ensemble prizes, which explains how “Lost” found victory at the 2005 ceremony, and how “Downton Abbey” (2012) was able to take down two-time champ “Boardwalk Empire” (2010-2011). This year, however, Gold Derby’s SAG TV predictions favor Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale” to prevail despite having the second-smallest cast. Are we crazy for going against bigger ensembles?

“The Handmaid’s Tale” boasts 10 cast members on the voting ballot, ahead of only Netflix’s “The Crown” at five. Comparatively, the other nominated dramas each feature more than a dozen actors: HBO’s “Game of Thrones” at 30, Netflix’s “Stranger Things” at 17 and NBC’s “This Is Us” at 13. In recent years “Game of Thrones” and “Downton Abbey” always had the biggest casts, with “Downton” beating the HBO fantasy series in 2014 and 2015.

Sneaky Game Of Thrones Set Pic Seemingly Confirms Tormund’s Fate

If you live in hope that Tormund Giantsbane and Brienne of Tarth will rekindle their “love affair” with Game of Thrones season 8, we have good news: Kristofer Hivju has been spotted in Belfast, the show’s home base, as filming on the eighth and final season gets underway.

First reported by BuzzFeed (with a tip of the hat to Instagram user ‘@ketel_cat’), it’s understood many of the show’s key players have been spotted moseying around Northern Ireland’s capital – Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen), Kit Harington (Jon Snow Aegon Targaryen), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister), Pilou Asbæk (Euron Greyjoy), Iain Glen (Jorah Mormont), Isaac Hempstead Wright (Bran Stark), and Jacob Anderson (Grey Worm).

But of all the many famous faces hitting the Belfast streets, it’s Kristofer Hivju that has generated the most excitement. That’s because his Tormund was last seen fleeing the Night King in season 7’s grand finale,

Gwendoline Christie Reveals Why Tormund and Brienne's Interactions Make Her "Dissolve"

  • BuzzSugar
When it comes to wanting to root for a Game of Thrones couple, the pickings are slim. We've got the incestuous romance between twins Jaime and Cersei Lannister (hard nope), and then Jon Snow and Daenerys's fiery new connection (hot, but sadly still incestuous). It's no wonder the one-sided flirtation between Tormund Giantsbane (Kristofer Hivju) and Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie) is so beloved! While stopping by Late Night on Tuesday, Christie confirmed to Seth Meyers that acting out scenes with Hivju is just as hilarious off screen as it is on, especially when it comes to Tormund's habit for leering away at Brienne. "It's terrifying, isn't it?" she joked about Hivju's facial expression. "He likes to continue being in character, even off set. We'll be in a dark tent with a gas heater burning away, and he will start chewing a sandwich wildly at me, masticating wildly at me . . . eyes like lasers.

Is 'Game of Thrones''s Tormund Alive or Dead?

  • Yidio
2017-08-30T13:56:24-07:00Is 'Game of Thrones''s Tormund Alive or Dead?class="p1">

We all came away from this week's season finale of GoT with the unsettling fear that Tormund, one of our favorite characters, might be dead. It's impossible to know for sure, unless the actor who plays Tormund is willing to spill the beans....

[Warning: This story contains spoilers for the season seven finale of HBO's Game of Thrones, "The Dragon and the Wolf."]

With so much time spent dwelling on the death of Littlefinger (Aidan Gillen) and the fall of the Wall, few people have stopped to consider the very grim possibility that two other fan-favorite characters met their maker in the season seven finale of Game of Thrones.

The final scene of the episode, called "The Dragon and the Wolf," featured Tormund Giantsbane (Kristofer Hivju) and Beric Dondarrion (Richard Dormer) helplessly watching as the Night King, riding an undead Viserion, pounded the wall with a steady stream of ice-blue zombie-dragon fire.

Review: Game of Thrones – Season 7 – Episode 7

Alas, the Song of Ice and Fire draws to a close once again.

Season 7 really has been one hell of a thrill ride. Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) met Jon Snow (Kit Harrington), the Night King (Vladimir Furdik) met, and brought down, a dragon, Arya (Maisie Williams) and Sansa (Sophie Turner) were finally reunited and Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) managed to put yet another bun in Cersie’s (Lena Headey) oven. It’s also boasted the best battle scenes that Game of Thrones has shown yet, with the production team finally being gifted the budget the show has been dying for since day one. Indeed, spectacle wise, it would be very easy to label Season 7 as the best of all.

However.

Things have seemed a tad – un Game of Throneish this year. Maybe it’s because the story is finally getting going, and characters are being reunited, that have been apart for a number of seasons.

Game of Thrones: Season Seven Ratings

Last year, after creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss announced their plan to end Game of Thrones with its eighth season, HBO programming boss Casey Bloys confirmed that would be indeed the end. There's no need to worry that the show will be cancelled so, why track the ratings? Well, it's fun. It keeps us off the street. And most of all, it's a high water mark against which we can measure the success of other HBO TV series. Based on A Song of Ice and Fire, the best-selling George R.R. Martin book series, Game of Thrones stars Peter Dinklage, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Lena Headey, Emilia Clarke, Aidan Gillen, Kit Harington, Diana Rigg, Sophie Turner, and Maisie Williams. The cast also includes Alfie Allen, John Bradley, Gwendoline Christie, Liam Cunningham, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jerome Flynn, Iain Glen, Isaac Hempstead Wright, Conleth Hill, Kristofer Hivju, Hannah Murray, Carice

Not Even Tormund Knows What Happened to His Character on Game of Thrones

Pray for us! #throwbackmonday #got7 #beric #richarddormer #whatwillhappen A post shared by Kristofer Hivju (@khivju) on Aug 28, 2017 at 11:36am Pdt The following contains spoilers for Game of Thrones season seven. The final two minutes of the Game of Thrones season seven finale are distressing, to put it mildly. Even more traumatizing than the Wall crumbling down and the White Walkers crossing into Westeros is the unknown fate of two fan-favorite characters, Tormund Giantsbane and Beric Dondarrion. The pair, who are at Eastwatch-by-the-Sea when wight Viserion and the Night King begin blasting the Wall apart, are last seen attempting to flee the destruction . . . but as the series stands, we still don't know whether they succeed or not. And neither, it seems, does the Got cast. The actor who plays Tormund, Kristofer Hivju, celebrated the finale with a selfie with Richard Dormer, who plays Beric, captioning his Instagram, "Pray for us!

TV Review: ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 7 Finale
Have the dragons already won?

We’re not talking about a battle between a zombie ice dragon and its two hot-blooded siblings. It’s a potential conflict “Game of Thrones” fans will no doubt spend the next year pondering, and no doubt a special-effects house is already figuring out how to deliver that kind of rousing, scaly battle.

But the non-literal version of the question still stands: Is “Game of Thrones” about dragons, spectacle and huge battles — or is it still about people? At times this past season, it was hard to tell.

Certain storylines, most notably the Arya-Sansa conflict, would have benefited from the kind of clarity and depth the show can provide when it’s not racing from one fiery clash to the next (as my Variety colleague Sonia Saraiya pointed out in her review of “The Dragon and the Wolf”). Fantasy worlds are full of what-ifs, so consider this alternate scenario: What if the
