Vin Diesel: The Rock’s ‘Fast’ Role Was Originally Written for Tommy Lee Jones

24 August 2016 10:55 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has been a central component of the “Fast and Furious” films since 2011’s “Fast Five,” but apparently this wasn’t meant to be the case. During a Facebook Live video recorded after production on “Fast 8” wrapped last Friday, franchise star Vin Diesel revealed that the role of Hobbs was originally intended for a much different actor: Tommy Lee Jones.

“Back in the fifth film, when I was asking ‘Who should I work with?’ The reason why we brought Dwayne Johnson into ‘Fast Five’ was because of you,” Diesel says in the video. “There was a girl named Jen Kelly who said, ‘I would love to see you guys work together onscreen’ and so we gave a role, that was initially written for Tommy Lee Jones, but we gave it to Dwayne, »

‘In Order of Disappearance’ Exclusive Clip: Father Avenges His Son’s Murder In Norwegian Black Comedy

16 August 2016 7:00 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Though it might seem like Liam Neeson has all claim to avenging a child in the “Taken” series, the Norwegian action black comedy “In Order of Disappearance” proves that there’s plenty more to be mined from such a premise. Described as a cross between “Fargo” and “Taken,” “In Order of Disappearance” follows snow plow diver Nils (Stellan Skarsgård) who discovers his son has died of a supposed heroin overdose. Knowing his son was not a drug addict, Nils starts his own investigation and discovers a local drug gang is behind the crime. Soon, Nils finds the killers and the gang’s leader, but not before being caught in the crossfire between the local and Serbian gangs. The film also stars Bruno Ganz (“The Wings of Desire”), Birgitte Hjort Sørensen (“Borgen”), Kristofer Hivju (“Game of Thrones”), and more. Watch an exclusive clip from the film below.

Family Rift? Vin Diesel Speaks Out About Alleged Fast 8 Fallout With Dwayne Johnson

12 August 2016 2:44 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

It’s been a whirlwind week for the Toretto crew. Just as F. Gary Gray’s Fast 8 nears the finish line, reports emerged of an alleged bust-up between Dwayne Johnson and another producer on the blockbuster sequel – and it didn’t take long for those clues to point in the direction of series stalwart Vin Diesel.

The drama can be traced back to one of The Rock’s many Instagram posts, where he called out some unnamed male counterparts – unnamed male counterparts he labelled “candy asses.”

Here’s an extract from Johnson’s online rant: “some [of my male counterparts] conduct themselves as stand up men and true professionals, while others don’t. The ones that don’t are too chicken s**t to do anything about it anyway. Candy a**es. When you watch this movie next April and it seems like I’m not acting in some of these scenes and »

Dwayne Johnson is a serious professional and has zero tolerance for co-stars who are acting like “candy asses.” In a Facebook post written on Monday, the actor blasted his male “Fast 8” companions for their unprofessional behaviors on set.

“This is my final week of shooting ‘Fast & Furious 8.’ There’s no other franchise that gets my blood boiling more than this one,” The Rock began. “An incredible hard working crew. Universal Studios Entertainment has been great partners as well.”

Back in June, Oscar-winning actress Helen Mirren confirmed she had joined the cast of Fast and Furious 8, which came about after she commented last year that she wants to play a "mad driver" in a Fast & Furious movie. Unfortunately, the actress won't be doing any actual driving in the movie. And she'll only be on the set for one day. It seems that day has already come, with franchise star Vin Diesel sharing our first look at Helen Mirren on the set of Fast and Furious 8.

Vin Diesel revealed on Instagram yesterday that it was an "honor and joy" to work with Helen Mirren, although no details were given for her role. The photo shows Vin Diesel sporting a traditional Fast & Furious look with a sleeveless shirt, while Helen Mirren is dressed far more elegant. Now firmly past the halfway point in production, Universal’s onslaught of set videos for Fast 8 is beginning to reach its crescendo.

Fast 8 Cruises Past Halfway Point In Production As New Set Video Surfaces

22 July 2016 9:29 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Fast Friday is upon us, dear readers, and in keeping up tradition, Universal has rolled out the latest set video for its barnstorming action sequel, Fast 8.

Teasing vehicular mayhem and a family reunion, this week’s vignette marks a milestone for F. Gary Gray and his crew, as Fast 8 is now officially past the halfway point in production ahead of its arrival in April of next year. And what better way to celebrate than offer up a sizzle reel packed to the rafters with death-defying stunts and explosions?

Action set-pieces aside, it’s fair to say that the stars have aligned for Fast 8. Not only is Gray coming off the back of the overly successful Straight Outta Compton, but Universal’s Fast and Furious franchise reached all new heights with the launch of Furious 7 in 2015, comfortably landing the series among Hollywood’s billion-dollar blockbusters. Latest Fast 8 set photo and video show Dwayne Johnson walking away from car wreck

20 July 2016 12:40 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Over the past 15 years, if the Fast & Furious franchise has taught viewers one thing, it’s that although their characters may not have superpowers, they operate and ward off death as if they were superheroes. For example, Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto has driven his car off a giant cliff, Paul Walker’s Brian O’Conner has jumped from a speeding train onto a speeding car and much more, only to walk away relatively unscathed each time.

Therefore, it should come as no surprise that the latest photo from the set of 2017’s Fast 8 features Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs confidently walking away from an overturned car, paying no mind to the wreckage behind him. The caption attached reads: “The Iceman cometh. And he don’t fucketh around. #OnSet #FastAndFurious8 #ZeroToleranceForBullshit #Iceman.” See the badass photo, which comes from Johnson’s Instagram, here…

Every week, the cast and crew of Fast and Furious 8 have sent out Fast Fridays videos from set, offering a behind-the-scenes sneak peek at the footage they had shot over the past few days. This week, Dwayne Johnson and director F. Gary Gray didn't feel like waiting until Friday, with the actor and director posting a new photo and video from the set. The video features Dwayne Johnson sporting his orange prison jumpsuit, promising the best prison scene in the history of cinema. It's defintely something fans have never seen in a movie before.

The Instagram video has Dwayne Johnson teasing a "jail scene" he's about to shoot with director F. Gary Gray, that will supposedly be "the prison scene of all prison scenes". Unfortunately, he doesn't shed any further light on what happens, but perhaps Hobbs is about to make his big escape. Dwayne Johnson also shared a photo »

Dwayne Johnson Brings The Cavalry In Latest Fast 8 Snap

20 July 2016 8:55 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson prepares to bring the cavalry (spoilers: he is the cavalry) in the latest snap for Universal’s action sequel, Fast 8.

Continuing to shine the spotlight on his enigmatic man mountain, Luke Hobbs, Johnson took to Instagram to share the all-new action shot of his hulking ally walking away from an overturned car largely unscathed.

Given that F. Gary Gray’s 2017 sequel stands as Johnson’s fourth appearance in the Fast and Furious franchise, the actor himself has spoke at length about his desire to shake up the formula, and a shot of Luke Hobbs behind bars recently flamed rumors that Dwayne Johnson’s towering hero could potentially go rogue.

Whatever the outcome, switching gears to Gray’s Instagram feed and the filmmaker’s latest post offers a behind-the-scenes peek at Dwayne Johnson preparing to film an action sequence. The Iceman cometh, indeed.

Fast 8 Set Video Parades The Supercars Of F. Gary Gray’s Action Sequel

15 July 2016 2:02 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Nothing says Friday quite like a behind-the-scenes video for F. Gary Gray’s action sequel, Fast 8.

In the latest episode of Universal’s long-running series, the Straight Outta Compton filmmaker introduces viewers to the movie’s vast archive of supercars, from bleeding-edge Bugattis to an armored assault vehicle. It’s enough to make any petrolhead go weak at the knees, and it’ll be fascinating to see the eye-watering action sequences that Gray and Co. have dreamt up using their reserve of high-tech automobiles.

From Cuba to Iceland to a grand finale in New York City, Fast 8 will retain the franchise’s knack for a globetrotting adventure, while the promise of a more gruff, back-to-basics role for Luke Hobbs ought to keep fans of Dwayne Johnson intrigued.

Speaking of upholding tradition, Johnson is part of an all-star cast that includes Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, »
