The Fate of the Furious tops $900 million worldwide

1 hour ago | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Having topped Star Wars: The Force Awakens for the biggest worldwide opening of all time last weekend, Universal PicturesThe Fate of the Furious has now pushed its worldwide haul to $908.4 million in its second weekend.

Domestically, The Fate of the Furious retained top spot at the box office with $38.7 million – down 61% from its $100.2 million debut – while it added another $163.4 million internationally to take its offshore cume to a whopping $744.8 million. The film will hit $1 billion this coming week, and will likely surpass Beauty and the Beast’s $1.1 billion haul next weekend to become the biggest earner of the year so far.

Universal has already dated Fast & Furious 9 for April 19th 2019 and Fast & Furious 10 for April 2nd 2021, while it has been announced this week that the Dwayne Johnson / Jason Statham spinoff has also been given the greenlight.

This Game of Thrones Season 7 Picture Foreshadows a Romance We Need to Happen

20 April 2017 12:05 PM, PDT | POPSUGAR | See recent BuzzSugar news »

Official photos from Game of Thrones season seven just busted into our lives like a wrecking ball, and there's so much we can gather from the handful of images. I'm not talking about the political tension between the Targaryens, Lannisters, and Starks - I'm talking about the sexual tension brewing between Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie) and Tormund Giantsbane (Kristofer Hivju). We caught wind of the romance during season six, when Tormund and Brienne meet for the first time and Tormund is clearly enchanted with Brienne, goddess that she is. While it could have been just a passing moment between them, the new picture confirms that Game of Thrones is about to go there. While we can only see Tormund's face, we know he's speaking to Brienne, and look at his expression! He's so damn happy to be talking to his potential new lady! Brienne doesn't appear to be super into Tormund, »

Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson have reportedly buried the hatchet, will both return for Fast & Furious 9

19 April 2017 8:37 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Months before the release of The Fate of the Furious, Dwayne Johnson took to social media to vent regarding some unprofessional conduct by one of his costars, stating that: “Some conduct themselves as stand-up men and true professionals, while others don’t. The ones that don’t are too chickenshit to do anything about it anyway. Candy asses. When you watch this movie next April and it seems like I’m not acting in some of these scenes and my blood is legit boiling — you’re right.”

Following up on that, we recently reported a rumor that the incident was incited by Vin Diesel demanding a post-credits sequence centered on Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham be nixed for reasons unknown.

Whatever the case may be, it is now being reported by TMZ that the two actors have met with each other to bury the hatchet, and as a result, both »

Kurt Russell interested in Fast & Furious 9 return

19 April 2017 12:19 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Kurt Russell is in the lucky position where right after having been a part of a record-breaking global box office smash hit in The Fate of the Furious, he is about to be a part of another worldwide cultural phenomenon in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. And naturally, he is now starting to partake in interview rounds with the media for the latter.

Speaking to Screen Rant, Kurt Russell expressed what would convince him to take part in Fast & Furious 9, stating: “Well, all my life I’ve never been one for sequels and stuff. I’ve done it one time with Escape From La, which was from Escape From New York, which was 17 years earlier. But we live in a different time now. We live in a time where that’s the norm. I’ve never had anything against it, I just think that each time what I think they’ve learned now, »

Dwayne Johnson made Jason Statham break character laughing during The Fate of the Furious scene

18 April 2017 5:50 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

It goes without saying that Dwayne Johnson is a fairly entertaining trash talker. Apparently, he is amusing to even Jason Statham who broke character laughing during a scene of The Fate of the Furious where the two utilize their dynamite chemistry to exchange heated words.

At one point Johnson says “With all due respect Captain, when this whole thing is over we’re going to find a location, and I’m gonna knock your teeth so far down your throat you’re gonna stick a toothbrush right up your ass to brush ’em.”

A fan inquired about the scene on Twitter, to which Dwayne Johnson said:

Ha completely broke character. It's the fun of our real life chemistry. Great guy. For the record, he broke first. #fateofthefurious https://t.co/VVFyIioipu

A very cold-water surfing mecca north of the Arctic Circle, it is home to Erik, a surfer bum who hasn’t seen his identical twin Adam –  a businessman with a successful family business, doting wife, picture-perfect family – for 15 years. To cover the crime, and to save his brother’s family, Erik takes over Adam’s identity.

The Fate of the Furious writer discusses the importance of Paul Walker references

17 April 2017 3:00 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Although Paul Walker’s Brian was written out of the Fast and Furious franchise due to the tragic death of the actor, Chris Morgan’s script for The Fate of the Furious does make references to the all-important family member.

Speaking to Collider to promote the blockbuster’s much-hyped release, Morgan explained the importance in doing so by stating: “It’s so dramatic for the characters that at some point they would definitely turn to each other and say, ‘Oh my God, we gotta tell Brian, we gotta tell Mia. Something is going on with Dom, we don’t know what it is’. So I think from a practical point of view for the characters you needed to address it. For the audience, and just as a fan as the writer on it, I also wanted to have one moment where we were able to – specifically at the beat at »

The Fate of the Furious topples Star Wars: The Force Awakens for biggest worldwide opening of all time

16 April 2017 9:20 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

It was obvious that The Fate of the Furious was going to open big, with tracking suggesting $400 million plus for the eighth instalment of Universal’s blockbuster action franchise. However, it looks like the film is going to shatter that prediction, and is currently on course to surpass Star Wars: The Force Awakens for the biggest worldwide opening of all time.

Variety reports that The Fate of the Furious is on course to debut with $103.8 million domestically (the 38th biggest opening weekend), but it’s international gross is at a staggering $430.4 million, 36% higher than the previous record set by Jurassic World with $316.7 million. Leading the way is China, where the film grossed $65.6 million on Friday, the biggest single day of all time in that market.

Should these predictions hold, The Fate of the Furious would gross $534.2 million, breaking the current $529 million record set by The Force Awakens in December »

The Fate of the Furious originally had a post-credits sequence, which Vin Diesel reportedly nixed

15 April 2017 2:30 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

To the surprise of many fans of the franchise, The Fate of the Furious did not have a post-credits sequence, but The Wrap has learned that one did previously exist. The stinger centered on the characters of Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham, who have dynamite chemistry together and steal the show.

There are currently two insider rumors going around. The first is that Vin Diesel was “enraged” that NBC Universal shot the scene without his permission or knowledge to the point where he demanded the film be recut to remove it.

This could explain why there is tension between Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel, as prior to the film’s release The Rock spoke about his co-stars, stating that: “Some conduct themselves as stand-up men and true professionals, while others don’t. The ones that don’t are too chickenshit to do anything about it anyway. Candy asses. When you »

Review: ‘The Fate of the Furious’ Brings the Action (and Fatigue)

14 April 2017 4:00 AM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

For a franchise that is thematically fueled by little else outside of family, eight entries is an impressive milestone, with two more on the horizon within the next four years. A far cry from the Nu Metal soundtrack and decal laden, souped up cars from the first installment, the crew of The Fate of the Furious are no longer small business owners (remember that?) or night crawling outlaws stealing DVD players. Now they’re globetrotting superspies with access to the government’s highest security clearances and a never ending supply of fast cars — who occasionally like to barbecue. The disparity results from 16 years and and four different directors doing what they can to shake things up. Fresh faces, exotic locales, time-jumping, heists, tanks, planes, amnesia — you name it. No stranger to swapping villains into heroes and vice versa, the conceit of turning franchise pater familias Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) into »

A Basic, Spoilery Play-by-Play of That Bonkers Fate of the Furious Ending

13 April 2017 7:10 PM, PDT | POPSUGAR | See recent BuzzSugar news »

Image Source: Everett Collection Major spoilers for The Fate of the Furious below! It feels like just yesterday we were watching Brian O'Conner go undercover to infiltrate Dominic Toretto's gang of street racers in The Fast and the Furious, but alas we're already on the franchise's eighth movie: The Fate of the Furious. Since all of the Fast and Furious movies have had the core theme of the importance of family, the latest installment feels like a departure of sorts. Dom (Vin Diesel) betrays his team and spends much of the movie reluctantly double-crossing them under the watchful eye of Cipher (Charlize Theron), an extremely powerful, ruthless hacker. Will our beloved, car-obsessed family ever be whole again?! (If you haven't seen the movie yet, we suggest you turn back now. If you're a sucker for spoilers like me, then hi, welcome, please keep reading.) When the movie begins, Dom and »

‘The Fate of the Furious’ Review: Vin Diesel’s Family Becomes Dysfunctional in Worst ‘Fast and Furious’ Ever

9 April 2017 8:59 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

The first 10 minutes of “The Fate of the Furious” have everything that you could ever ask for in a “Fast and the Furious” movie, or any other movie for that matter. Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) swaggers through the streets of Havana, tasting the local flavor as a bass-heavy Cuban pop song bangs on the soundtrack. The sun is shining, the cars are classics, and the girls are wearing hot pink thongs that make their butts pop off the screen like they’ve been post-converted into 3D. It’s like someone threw a Pitbull video and forgot to invite him.

Then, as Dom comes across a weirdly well-organized group of local auto fetishists, he finds his younger cousin being antagonized by the baddest guy in town. But there’s an easy solution to this problem. You see, Dom lives by a code, and that code is simple: “All human conflict can »

Chris Morgan on the possibility of Fast & Furious… In Space!

9 April 2017 6:57 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Generally, by the time a franchise starts pushing double figures, it’s time to take things to outer space in an effort to scrape the last few dregs out of the well.

The Fast & Furious franchise hasn’t quite reached that point yet, but with the eighth instalment The Fate of the Furious opening this coming week, and parts nine and ten already announced for 2019 and 2021, it’s surely only a matter of time before Dom and the family strap on their space suits, right?

Well, according to screenwriter Chris Morgan, it’s not beyond the realm of possibility.

“Look, I get all versions of that question,” Morgan tells Uproxx. “I get, ‘Are you going to space?,’ and, ‘Please, God, tell me you’re not going to space because you’ll lose me if you do.’ The only way I’d go to space is if I had something so good… »
