'Mr. Robot': Everything You Need to Know for Season 2

12 July 2016 6:16 AM, PDT | Rollingstone.com | See recent Rolling Stone news »

Nothing is a coincidence or an accident in Mr. Robot, Sam Esmail's hacker psychothriller that wormed its way into last year's TV season like a particularly efficient computer virus. Visually stunning and meticulously plotted, the first season tapped into a rich vein of paranoia and disillusion running through the heart of late-stage capitalist society — in other words, it's not exactly your typical USA Network fare, a channel known for play-it-safe shows like Royal Pains and White Collar.

Told from the perspective of Elliot Alderson (Rami Malek), a brilliant but »

Tribeca Review: Robert Schwartzman's 'Dreamland' Starring Johnny Simmons, Amy Landecker, Jason Schwartzman, And More

22 April 2016 12:44 PM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

It seems almost inevitable that Rooney frontman, Coppola scion, and Jason Schwartzman brother Robert Schwartzman would eventually make a movie, and he makes his directorial debut with an earnest, musically themed take on the Mrs. Robinson myth with “Dreamland." Co-written with Benjamin Font, the film stars the endearing, almost cherubic Johnny Simmons as Monty Fagan, a struggling piano player who becomes entangled with an older lover/benefactress, Olivia (Amy Landecker), while trying to sort out his life.  Monty, peddling piano lessons for $25 bucks a pop, dreams of opening his own piano bar, but he settles for a replacement gig filling in at the swanky La Petit Bel Ami hotel. It’s where he meets Olivia, an older woman who actually wants to have sex with him, unlike his longtime girlfriend Lizzie (Frankie Shaw). Their mojo has fizzled, partially thanks to her mom (Beverly D’Angelo), whom they live with. So when Olivia turns up, »

Tribeca ‘16: First wave unveils split Narrative competition and record breaking female directors

The first wave of films screening at the 15th Tribeca Film Festival have been announced and this year, the Narrative program has been split into two separate sections: the Us Narrative competition which celebrates the works of American filmmakers and the International Narrative competition which will showcase cinematic works spanning five continents.

With one third of the Festival’s feature films being directed by women – the highest percentage in history – the Festival is becoming renown for its discovery of new and distinct voices.

“In our 15th year we wanted to deepen our support of American narrative filmmakers and have opened our competition to separately showcase the Us and International films,” said Genna Terranova, Festival Director.  “We are very impressed by the films this year and inspired to see new voices transcending traditions and taking risks by telling their stories their own way. We are excited to share with audiences how »

Blue Mountain State: The Rise Of Thadland Review

4 February 2016 3:38 PM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Blue Mountain State: The Rise Of Thadland is a drug-fueled dystopian comedy that would make Rob Gronkowski blush – we’re coming out of the gate guns-blazing on this one! Everything that television audiences love about the hard-partying Mountain Goats makes a return in Lev L. Spiro’s spinoff film, as creators Eric Falconer and Romanski leave a trail of cocaine dust while they unleash epic, Thad-Castle-approved anarchy.

It’s perversely familiar and relentlessly immature (in a good way), which is everything Bms fans have come to expect. We’re gifted an epic, multi-day party that reunites all our favorite characters, but with the calculated exclusion of on-field football antics, something feels slightly amiss. Not enough to detract immensely, just a little more welcomed playmaking to balance…ah, who am I kidding. You’re watching for the sloots and booze, and that’s exactly what you’ll get!
