Echoes Of A Ronin: Watch The Impressive Danish Martial Arts Short

14 September 2014 3:00 AM, PDT | Screen Anarchy | See recent Screen Anarchy news »

Late last year, we got a taste of the Danish martial arts short Echoes of a Ronin, in the form of a gallery of images. Now, the film is finished, and you can watch it in its entirety here, with English subtitles included. Directed by Shaky Gonzalez and starring David Sakurai, Echoes of a Ronin tells a familiar story of greed, revenge and honor, only now with Danish restaurants as a backdrop. It's a stylish effort with some great fight choreography by Tim Man (of Ninja 2 fame), and with a running time of 20 minutes it doesn't even get a chance to outlast its welcome. Check it out below:...

Ninja: Shadow of a Tear, 2013.

Directed by Isaac Florentine.

Starring Scott Adkins, Kane Kosugi, Mika Hijii, Shun Sagata, Tim Man and Vithaya Pansringarm.

Ninjitsu master Casey is back and out for revenge when his pregnant wife is murdered.

British action star Scott Adkins has seen his star gradually rise in the last few years. He’s a franchise star thanks to his turn as Uri Boyka in Undisputed 2 and 3 (a fourth is in the works), as well as jumping aboard another franchise in Universal Solider: Day Of Reckoning, and also getting his face on the big screen in The Expendables 2. These days it’s a tough job launching yourself as an action star, and maintaining a long career, but Adkins is hitting full steam and seems set to emulate some of the success of his older contemporaries.

I’m a huge fan of 2009′s Ninja, as my signed Blu-ray will atest, so it’s safe to say I was super-excited for the UK release of the sequel Ninja: Shadow of a Tear. Whereas the first film saw Scott Adkins titular hero Casey Bowman using his ninjutsu skills on the streets of New York, this film sees Casey return home from some late night shopping to find someone has brutally killed his wife Namiko (Mika Hijii) and their unborn child. Bereft, Casey has only one thing left to live for… revenge.

The only clues to Namiko’s killer are the barbed wire marks left around her neck. So, with the help of his trusted friend Nakabara »

Director Shaky Gonzalez and star David Sakurai have teamed up to create something very unusual for their homeland of Denmark: A martial arts drama rooted in the Japanese bushido code. Sweden's Tim Man - a rapidly rising star in the fight world thanks to his stellar work as choreographer on Ninja 2 and the like - provides choreography here while also appearing in a support role and the results thus far are looking very good indeed. The story is set in a contemporary Scandinavian/Asian environment with a universal story about injustice and loss of innocence combined with recognizing ones destiny. This is all seen through the eyes of a child and through her experience see how man, despite being protected by morals and a strong code...
