Toys Offer Another Look at The Lizard From ‘The Amazing Spider-Man,’ Corroborate Action Setpiece Rumors

30 December 2011 1:00 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

The first vague look [1] we had at the Lizard in Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man was via a fairly low-rent plastic rendering: a Pez dispenser. (Well, the first look those who weren't in Hall H when Sony debuted the character at Comic Con, anyway.) Concept art [2] followed on the heels of that reveal, and now we've got another toy to help shape our understanding of the character's look. This time, however, the toy boats an actual photo of the guy, albeit a low-quality one. In addition, another toy set seems to reveal an action setpiece in the film. As it turns out, this is one that we reported on a long time ago. I've used old art of the Lizard in the header to avoid spoiling things for those who don't want to see anything before a new trailer hits, so hit the jump for all the new details. »

New The Amazing Spider-man Toys Reveal Spoilers and Another Look at The Lizard

30 December 2011 7:37 AM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Studios try so hard to keep a tight lid on their movies (until a month before the flick opens and the TV spots and trailers spoil everything anyway), but those pesky toy-makers always let snapshots of their products leak out.  Lego-rip-off Mega Blocks are making toys for The Amazing Spider-Man, and box art of those toys have gone online.  If you're curious where some set pieces are probably going to happen, you can find out after the jump.  Sony has also been trying to keep The Lizard hidden (probably because the special effects aren't ready for public consumption), but some plastic remote doohickey has a nice image of Spidey's new foe.  Another toy has Spider-Man driving a Spidey-mobile, and  I know it won't be in the movie, but someone needs to explain to me why Spider-Man needs a car. Hit the jump to check out the images, but beware of possible spoilers. »

The Amazing Spider-man Merchandise Reveals The Lizard & Story Spoilers

29 December 2011 11:48 PM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

With merchandise for Hollywood blockbusters needing to be designed and produced so many months ahead of the films they are marketing it’s no surprise that the big reveals regarding Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man are coming from our first looks at new toys. On the heels of the pez dispenser which revealed what the scaly head of the villainous creature The Lizard will look like in next summer’s movie comes a slightly bigger reveal of his shoulders thanks to Idle Hands and some kind of electronic remote controls.

The one for Spider-Man is above and the potentially spoilerish one (that’s if you were avoiding a reveal of the character before July) is below;

A newly available to pre-order Marvel Universe action figure also seems to reveal an encounter between The Lizard and Spider-Man will take place in the sewers. Though I guess we could have presumed that ourselves… »

The Amazing Spider-Man doesn't swing into theaters until July 3, but a new Mega Blocks toy set has revealed an intriguing plot detail for this upcoming superhero reboot. Take a look at this Mega Blocks set entitled "Oscorp Tower FX Battle" in the photo below, and then read on for more The Amazing Spider-Man story details.

One of the figures included in this set is "Swat Lizard," which seems to confirm a rumor from back in February that Rhys Ifans' villain the Lizard will be turning an entire Swat team into reptile creatures not unlike himself.

Here's what an insider had to say about this particular scene below.

"One action set-piece towards the end of the film sees the Lizard transform a whole Swat team into scaly mutants that look like him. Then there's a huge battle. Some of the scene is based upon the famous issue of the comic in which Gwen Stacy died. »

Emma Stone Amazing in Spider-Man Pics

I heard a rumor that phenomenal actress Emma Stone was originally blond, but didn’t start getting call backs on auditions until she went bold and dyed her locks red. So, it may be a surprise to see her blond again, but her hot new Marvel Comics character is fair haired and so is she in the latest photos from the set of The Amazing Spider-Man.

To be fair, Stone was sort of a strawberry blond as Skeeter in the wonderful book adaptation, The Help. Still, it is shiny flaxen tresses for Stone in the character of Gwen Stacy. The High School student and possible love interest for Andrew Garfield’s version of Peter Parker is striking a pose in these images from the official Facebook page of the upcoming super hero flick.

Interestingly enough, it was a redhead, actress Bryce Dallas Howard, who »

The below image shows off the package design for a set of Mega Bloks titled "Oscorp Tower FX Battle." The Amazing Spider-Man: Andrew Garfield Covers Empire, Plus New Still Images from the Movie

28 December 2011 5:18 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Sony's upcoming Spider-Man franchise relaunch may not hold any records for trailer downloads like The Dark Knight Rises or feature multiple hot celebrity actors playing box office-proven superheroes like The Avengers, but The Amazing Spider-Man is still one of the most highly-anticipated movies debuting in 2012. It's popped up on more than one "Most Searched For" lists of 2011, and popular British entertainment magazine Empire has chosen the Marc Webb-directed movie to launch its "Amazing 2012 Preview" issue showcasing the "Biggest Year in Movie History" by putting Spider-Man himself, Andrew Garfield, on the cover.

To help maintain the high levels of moviegoer interest in The Amazing Spider-Man as we head into 2012, Sony stepped up its marketing campaign for the movie in December, releasing a new poster and several pieces of promotional artwork, and launching an official movie website that contains new still images, wallpapers and character profiles, as well as a brief story synopsis. »

Our weekly round-up of the big news stories from the world of movie superheroes…

Warner Bros. gave Batman fans an early Christmas present this past Monday with the online release of the second theatrical trailer for The Dark Knight Rises and – with anticipation for Christopher Nolan’s Gotham swansong reaching fever pitch - it quickly went on to shatter the iTunes record previously held by Marvel’s The Avengers as it amassed a whopping 12.5m views in just 24 hours. The trailer delivered on pretty much every level, giving us a tantalising glimpse at what appears to be some epic action sequences, along with a look at the majority of the cast in action, including Christian Bale (Bruce Wayne / Batman), Tom Hardy (Bane), Gary Oldman (Commissioner Gordon), Michael Caine (Alfred), Marion Cotillard (Miranda Tate) and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (John Blake), along with a Batman Returns-style introduction to Anne Hathaway’s Selina Kyle. »

More 'Amazing Spider-Man' pics revealed - Emma Stone rocks some knee socks

27 December 2011 7:55 PM, PST | Pop2it | See recent Pop2it news »

"The Amazing Spider-Man" is still six months away, but the juicy tidbits of the reboot of the franchise are trickling out. First the official poster was released earlier this month. Now there area few new production stills to whet your appetite.

We like the above picture of Emma Stone as the blonde cutie Gwen Stacy. We aren't sure how we feel about that particular hair style, but we love her rockin' the knee socks. The one below of star Andrew Garfield swinging on the chain we would guess is him discovering his powers? And/or training them?

And hey - we didn't actually know Denis Leary was in "Spider-Man," so that's cool. He plays George Stacy, Gwen's father.

"The Amazing Spider-Man" opens nationwide July 3, 2012. Are you getting excited, fans? Is your Spidey sense a-tingling?

Following the departure of Patty Jenkins from Thor 2 because of "creative differences" with Marvel - with some sources claiming she was fired - a new director has been appointed.

According to Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter, Alan Taylor has landed the job. He and Daniel Minahan, both of whom have helmed episodes of Game of Thrones, were previously said to be the two finalists for the post. Taylor has also directed episodes of Sex and the City, The Sopranos and Mad Men.

Prior to Jenkins' involvement, yet another Game of Thrones director, Brian Kirk, was briefly in talks to take on the flick after Kenneth Branagh decided not to return. Thor 2 is released on November 15, 2013.

Indicating the anticipation for the closing chapter of Christopher Nolan's Batman saga, The Dark Knight Rises has broken the record for the most downloaded trailer on iTunes.
