2012 Sundance Film Festival Lineup Announced

30 November 2011 2:49 PM, PST | WeAreMovieGeeks.com | See recent WeAreMovieGeeks.com news »

Park City, Ut – Sundance Institute announced today the films selected for the U.S. and World Cinema Dramatic and Documentary Competitions of the 2012 Sundance Film Festival. The Sundance Film Festival will take place January 19 through 29 in Park City, Salt Lake City, Ogden and Sundance, Utah. The complete list of films is available at www.sundance.org/festival.

Robert Redford, Founder and President of Sundance Institute remarked, “We are, and always have been, a festival about the filmmakers. So what are they doing? What are they saying? They are making statements about the changing world we are living in. Some are straight-forward, some novel and some offbeat but always interesting. One can never predict. We know only at the end, and I love that.”

John Cooper, Director of the Sundance Film Festival, said, “In these challenging economic times, filmmakers have had to be more resourceful and truly independent in their approaches to filmmaking. »

Sundance Film Festival 2012 Competition Line-up Announced

30 November 2011 1:00 PM, PST | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

It seems like we are only just diving into the awards season, but the 2012 film year is right around the corner. There is no better place to get a tast of what is to come than Park City Utah in late January. We’ll be attending the fest again (read last year’s round-up) and today we have the first competition titles. This is the same group from last year which titles include Martha Marcy May Marlene, Like Crazy, Another Earth, Pariah, Being Elmo, Take Shelter and many more. Are there more great films to be found this year? I have no doubt the line-up below will include break-out titles, so lets get to it.

At first glance, the most notable film is Antonio CamposSimon Killer, who last directed Afterschool and is in the Martha Marcy trio. It is easily my most-anticipated from this group, along with Quentin Dupieux‘s Rubber follow-up Wrong. »

'Bones': Place your bets on who dies in 'The Hole in the Heart'

10 May 2011 3:50 PM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

"Bones" has a daunting number of pins in the air as it juggles the last two episodes of Season 6.

A recurring -- or possibly regular -- cast member dies in the penultimate episode, prompting a possible hook-up between Booth (David Boreanaz) and Brennan (Emily Deschanel). Angela (Michaela Conlin) and Hodgins (T.J. Thyne) are about to deliver their (potentially blind) baby. And the start-date for Season 7 is uncertain given Deschanel's real life pregnancy.

All of this is fodder for endless speculation and dissection over the coming weeks, but what we'd really like to figure out right now is... who's going to die this Thursday?

Based on promos and the episode's cast, we're most concerned for the fates of Sweets (John Francis Daley) or the not-so-pivotal Mr. Nigel-Murray (Ryan Cartwright). Each seem to stand an equal chance of being on the other end of sniper Jacob Broadsky's (Arnold Vosloo) rifle -- though based on the whimsical, »

Bones – “The Signs In The Silence” – review

6 May 2011 7:28 AM, PDT | Boomtron | See recent Boomtron news »

A police officer spots a bloodied girl (McKenzie Applegate) collapsed in an alley. When he tries to help the girl, she slashes wildly at him with a knife. As it appears the girl has killed someone, Caroline Julian calls in Brennan and Booth to investigate. As a final complication, though, the girl is a deaf mute.

I’ve become comfortable with Bones‘s formula of finding and identifying dead bodies, but thankfully I still find live people more engaging. This episode was about getting through to the girl, a job that became personal for Brennan, Booth, and Sweets.

From the way the girl was taught to sign, Brennan determined she was from rural Pennsylvania. Booth drove out and met her parents, the Sheinfelds, who gave the girl’s name as Amy. When Brennan met the Sheinfelds, however, she realized from bone markers that they were not Amy’s birth parents. »

'Bones': The 'silence' before the storm

5 May 2011 8:20 PM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

If you watched the preview of next week's "Bones," chances are you aren't really in the mood to rehash "The Signs in the Silence," but maybe focusing on this for a while will help us not think about the looming death-sex-pocalypse.

... still not working? Well let's recap anyway.

Our all-time favorite gal Caroline Julian (Patricia Belcher) interrupts Booth (David Boreanaz) and Brennan (Emily Deschanel) discussing Brennan's maternal prospects (!) with an interesting case. A deaf and mute girl is a witness/suspect to a murder and the only way to figure out if she committed it or not is by looking at x-rays of her bones. Well, here's a twist we haven't seen before -- and an excuse to bring up some long-simmering Brennan issues.

For the squints:

The young girl, Amy, arrives covered in blood and dirt, fighting off attempts at x-rays or any examination, but her inability to communicate »
